Chapter 44 Interlude – Baldric

After Ayumu’s departure, Baldric, the manager of the Elandric Store, sighed deeply in admiration.
”What a brilliant young man…” he murmured.
Baldric’s thoughts drifted to his own youth. Could I have spoken with such eloquence at his age? he wondered. Ayumu’s proposal of a franchise agreement, coupled with his persuasive sales pitch, had left a lasting impression.

”But why would you share such a lucrative method with us?” Baldric had asked, his curiosity piqued. He knew Ayumu was already successful enough to open his own store. The idea of him offering this opportunity to others seemed almost too good to be true. Is there a catch? he couldn’t help but wonder.
Ayumu smiled, his expression warm and confident. “With my limited resources and connections, there’s only so much I can achieve. But with the Elandric Merchant Guild’s procurement expertise, sales network, and financial backing, establishing franchise stores would be far more feasible.”
”All I ask is that you prioritize purchasing seasonings from the brewery I’ve acquired, and for every dish sold using my recipes, I’d like a kickback of five copper coins per item. This way, both you and I can benefit. Perhaps we could start with a trial store in the Land of Yugan?”
”Rest assured,” Ayumu added with a bow, “I have no one else here but you to approach with this proposal. I won’t take this idea to other shops or merchants. Please consider it carefully. If you’re interested, let me know anytime, and I’ll come running.”
”Ah, and in about a month or so, I should be able to bring samples of the seasonings. Until then…” Ayumu paused, his smile widening. “Thank you for the delicious meal. Farewell!”

What an excellent proposal, Baldric thought, his mind racing. It minimizes risk for both parties. The young man’s offer was irresistible, and Baldric had agreed without hesitation. If this worked, it could be the key to the advancement he’d nearly given up on.
”Time to get to work!” Baldric declared, his voice filled with determination. He would begin selecting suitable restaurants and taverns under his jurisdiction immediately.
”Things are about to get busy!”
