On one side, Sakashita Marika mourned Ayumu’s presumed death, though Ayumu himself was utterly unaware of her grief. Instead, he sat grinning, muttering, “Alright, alright, alright,” as he counted the substantial kickback transferred from the Elandric Merchant Guild. By any moral standard, it was a despicable act. Yet, to Ayumu, Sakashita Marika was nothing more than the second-ranked student at their school—a mere acquaintance, barely deserving of the term “classmate.”
He couldn’t fathom that there were people who had risked their lives searching for him after he’d jumped into the river, driven by a sense of compassion he couldn’t comprehend. Regardless, Ayumu remained steadfast in his belief that his decision at that moment had been the best possible choice under the circumstances.
”Hmm, hmm. Now, how can I increase my assets even further?” he mused, his mind consumed entirely by thoughts of profit. And so, his current obsession remained unchanged—money, and more of it.
