Chapter 60 Interlude – Empress Sarendra
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Sarendra’s chest swelled with hope. Never before had anyone explained the Crown Prince’s condition and treatment with such clarity and detail.
”What… what is that?!” someone from royal healers muttered, his frustration flaring. “That insolent brat!!”
The Royal Healers and Imperial Mages were furious, but she silenced them with a sharp command. “Be quiet! Prepare exactly what he instructs, immediately!” Though the lower-ranked attendants may have resented her, it no longer mattered.
(By now, my reputation is of no concern!)
From the moment she arrived in this country from her island home of House Rostick, her reputation had already suffered. Did they think she was unaware? Her subordinates whispered behind her back, calling her a “superstitious, unsociable, hysterical Empress.”
No matter the palace—Imperial Court or otherwise—gossip always found ears that would spread it further. Perhaps they did not understand the reality of the Imperial Court.
Regardless, Sarendra had resolved, as a mother, to sacrifice everything for her son, Aare. The person introduced to her by His Majesty might truly be able to heal Aare. At the very least, he had listened to her with genuine care.
”That… must be a difficult position,” he said gently. “But now that I am here, both Your Highness and Aare will soon be freed from this suffering. Once the tools and materials are prepared, the Crown Prince’s health will improve. Leave everything concerning Aare to me. Please, rest assured, Your Majesty. Patience is all that is required until then.”
He paused, as if considering her worries. “And yet… it seems you need a counselor to ease your own peace of mind. I will keep your secrets, whether they concern the Crown Prince or court matters. Even as Empress, you are human. I cannot fully grasp the feelings of someone in Your exalted position, but that does not mean you must bear the weight alone.”
Sarendra felt a deep sense of relief at his words. In all her encounters, no one had ever approached her with such genuine understanding.
Though preparations for Aare’s treatment had yet to begin, Sarendra already trusted Ayumu completely.
