Chapter 8 Run Away!!

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Due to the growing commotion, confusion still lingered in the chamber. Several students raised their voices in frustration.

”Hey! Hurry up! We’re tired!” someone shouted, clearly annoyed.

With the ceremony nearing its end, the final ritual was hurriedly prepared—for the boy named Sanai.

”Now, to the final—the Hero Gem,” called the scrawny old man, his voice echoing through the hall.

Sanai stepped forward, approaching the red gem—a national treasure said to measure one’s latent potential. Just as the others had done before him, he placed his hand upon it.

(Now then… what kind of ability do I have?)

The moment his hand touched the surface, a flicker of pale light stirred within the gem.

Until then, the old man had reacted to every participant with exaggerated cries of “Ooh!!”, “Wow!”, and “Amazing!!”. But now, his face visibly darkened, the enthusiasm draining from his features.

 (Huh? What? Something’s wrong…)

”……Priest, what is the matter? Quickly, declare that person’s ability,” the king asked, his tone sharp.

The old priest blinked in confusion before finally speaking.

”I can hardly believe it, but… this person’s stats are all a flat 10. The same as an average citizen, Your Majesty. Moreover, they possess no magical affinity, and no unique skills. None. Such a result is… unprecedented. They may very well be the weakest individual in history.”

”……What did you say……” the king muttered in disbelief.

Gasps spread through the room like wildfire. Even Sanai could feel the air change—oppressive, heavy with disappointment.

”Nonsense?! That person’s from another world, aren’t they?!” someone shouted from the crowd.

”Ahhh! The gods have abandoned us!” a townsman wailed.

”My lord! Please don’t forsake us! Save us from the apostles!” a woman cried out, clutching her robes.

In sharp contrast to the terrified locals, some of Sanai’s summoned classmates snorted and sneered, pleased that a weakling had emerged from their own ranks.

”Pfft! Hahaha! What a piece of trash!” a boy with too much confidence laughed. “It’s garbage. Pure garbage. No—worse than garbage! Even garbage has uses!”

”So lame! It’s that loser Sanai… Let’s make him our errand boy!” another jeered.

”This is gold! I can’t believe it! The bottom-tier trash is from our class!” a girl giggled, nudging her friend.

(Ah… sure. Good for you, right? Someone finally ranked below you.)

Sanai didn’t get angry. Not really. These people had been rotten even back in their own world. Their mockery felt more like a habit than anything sincere—just background noise.

 What mattered now was survival.

Even in a world of swords and magic, basic logic applied: you couldn’t make something from nothing. Whether building weapons or casting spells, you needed materials, energy—resources. And summoning 40 people from another world? That had to cost something.

If one defective unit had slipped through…

In manufacturing, defective products got scrapped or melted down.

In branding, they were burned to protect the image.

In gacha games? Players rerolled until they pulled something worth keeping.

So what would they do in a world where human rights were optional?

What would they do with him?

Sanai ran through the king’s possible decisions like cold calculations.

First: Kill the useless one immediately as an example.

Second: Use them as a morale-boosting symbol. Throw them to the front lines, let them die dramatically to inspire the rest.

Third: Use the defective summon as a ritual sacrifice to bring in a better hero.

No matter which choice King Jack Seron made, Sanai saw only one conclusion: his death.

And since he had no idea what level of “civilization” this world claimed, he couldn’t gamble on mercy.

 Which left only one option.

Right now, the otherworlders—king, nobles, and classmates alike—were still reeling, unsure of how to treat him. His classmates were either laughing, gloating, or simply overwhelmed by the day’s events.

(This is my only chance! If I don’t move now, I’m dead!)

In that single moment of hesitation from everyone else, Sanai turned and bolted.

He shoved past the stunned crowd and sprinted toward the exit, heart pounding, lungs burning, his mind repeating one thought:

 Live.
