Chapter 94 Did I Just Kill Him by Mistake?!

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Hours had passed since Mineyama’s party was scattered. The only one still at her side was Takuma Sada. Even so, Mineyama refused to give up.

”We have to find the others quickly! Of all the possibilities, the strongest two of us ended up together—everyone else could be in danger!” she urged.

Anyone who knew her would have said the same: Mineyama was a woman of conviction, with a powerful sense of justice and duty. Once she set her eyes on a goal, she led the charge herself and pulled others along with her. She was born a leader.

But not everyone appreciated that resolve. Least of all, Takuma Sada.

”Tch, why the hell should I—someone this strong—waste effort for those weaklings? Damn annoying…” he muttered.

”I thought you’d finally changed, that you were fighting for the weak. I was wrong about you!” she snapped.

The two had been quarreling in an open clearing, unable to agree on whether to keep searching. The reason they’d stopped here, despite their clashing tempers, was simple: with both of them holding formidable Inspiration, they needed open ground. Even if an enemy horde rushed them, they wouldn’t risk hurting allies with their overwhelming attacks.

”That’s what I’ve been saying!” Sada barked. “Why should the strongest among us risk our necks for weaklings? You can’t save everyone! Better to use them as bait, or pawns to be thrown away!”

Cold and ruthless as his words were, Sada wasn’t entirely wrong. Even Alyurein had balked at the idea of spending too much time protecting weaker classmates. To the summoners, it was enough if a handful of their “heroes” survived to slay the Demon King.

”What did you just say?!” Mineyama’s anger flared hotter.

Sada’s words implied Yuuki and the others could die without consequence. To her, who had sworn no more classmates would die, it was the ultimate insult. And worse, unlike Alyurein’s quiet calculations, Sada flaunted his callousness, deliberately needling her.

”No more. I was a fool to rely on you!” she spat, turning to leave him behind.

 That was when it happened.

 ”Tch.”

Sada clicked his tongue. He’d been waiting for a moment when Mineyama was alone, without her weapon at hand, to force himself on her. But now she was about to walk away. If he let her go, he’d lose his chance.

If that’s how it was, then he’d just take what he wanted by force.

With sudden resolve, Sada lunged from behind and shoved her hard to the ground.

”Kyah!!” Mineyama’s scream tore through the clearing as he pinned her down.

”Damn it, you’re not getting away, Mineyama!” he growled.

”Wha—?! Ouch! What are you doing?! Have you lost your mind?!” she shouted, struggling beneath him. But realization struck: this wasn’t just a fight.

Sada wrenched her halberd from her grip and hurled it aside, then seized her chest with a rough, greedy hand.

”Stop! Don’t touch me there! What are you trying to do?!” she cried, glaring up at him with sharp, furious eyes.

Sada sneered. “Ha! I’ve wanted to put you in your place for a long time. Thought I’d break that stuck-up pride of yours—by force!”

He forced his hand under her clothes, sliding down toward her undergarments.

”No! Please, stop!” she screamed, thrashing.

His filthy touch moved lower, aiming to violate the part of her body no man had ever touched.

”You bastard! Monster!” she cried, kicking and clawing desperately.

”Shut up and hold still!” he barked, striking her across the face before tugging violently at her clothes. “Heh heh… been dying to get my hands on these big tits. Finally, they’re all mine.”

 ”Somebody! Please—help me!!”

But Sada only laughed. “Hah! Scream all you want. No one’s coming. I learned back when I r*ped Caesar’s daughter—r*pe’s all about guts and timing!”

Mineyama froze. ‘So it was him… The rapist in the Imperial Capital that was never caught—it was one of our own.

”You?! That vile crime was yours?! You… you devil!” she spat, trembling with fury.

”Damn right. And now it’s your turn, Mineyamaaa!!”

 ’Not him…

The thought tore through her mind. She shut her eyes tight in terror—

And then, cutting the air, came the vicious hiss of something flying past. The world froze, stilled like water shocked into silence.

After fending off Sakagami and Mizutani, Ayumu decided he wanted no more trouble with his classmates. Scanning the mine, he spotted a narrow ledge high above the main path where fewer people seemed to pass. Using his climbing pick, he pulled himself up.

The upper passage was jagged, rough like a cavern’s ribs, but Ayumu chose it anyway. Anything to avoid running into others. He had only been making his way for a short while when angry voices drifted up from the open space below.

Frowning, he drank a vial of Night Vision and Sensory Enhancement Potion, sharpening his sight. Peering down, he saw Sayumi Mineyama and Takuma Sada locked in an argument.

What the hell? Too many classmates in this damn tunnel…)

First Yuuki, then Sakagami and Mizutani… It felt like half their old class had spilled into the Birene Mine. Ayumu gave a strained laugh and almost turned away—until he caught the atmosphere between Mineyama and Sada. Something was very wrong.

He downed another vial, this time for Hearing Enhancement, and tuned in.

”Damn it, you’re not getting away, Mineyama!” Sada snarled.

 (Huh?)

Ayumu’s eyes widened as Sada lunged from behind. Mineyama staggered, shouting in protest.

”Ow! What—stop! No! Don’t touch me! What the hell are you trying to do?!”

Sada wrenched her weapon away and groped her over her clothes.

(Eh? Wha—wait, are they… are they into each other? No, this makes no sense—this is all scrambled up!)

”Ha! I’ve wanted to break that uppity attitude of yours for a long time! To take you by force!”

”What’s wrong with you?! Stop! Please!”

 ”You animal! You disgusting bastard!”

The words didn’t match the images in Ayumu’s head at all. Then realization hit like ice water.

(Wait… is this… that thing… r*pe? Like in those doujinshi?)

Before he could process further, Sada struck her across the face.

”You talk too much! Stay still!”

Ayumu’s gut clenched. This was no act, no lovers’ spat. He dropped into a crawl, scanning for a sniping position.

”Heh heh heh! I’ve dreamed of having these giant tits all to myself! Damn, they feel amazing!”

 ”No—someone! Please!”

Ayumu’s heart raced. Never had he imagined stumbling onto something like this—classmates attacking classmates. Panic clawed at him.

 (What do I do?)

He shouldered his Valend-made Mechanical Crossbow, aiming down the iron sight. Should he fire? Where? His mind scrambled for the least-lethal option when Sada barked out words that froze him.

”Ha! Scream all you want! No one’s coming! I knew it ever since I raped Caesar’s daughter! It’s all about guts and timing!!”

(What—what the hell?! I was even trying to soften the words in my head, but… he actually said it? And he’s done this before?!)

Ayumu’s doubt shattered. With Sada’s confession, hesitation was gone. Given Sada’s nature, he might kill Mineyama just to silence her. And Mineyama—strict, sometimes sharp, but fair and decent—versus Sada, a criminal brute? The choice was clear.

He measured his aim, waiting for the right moment.

”You?! That vile crime was yours?! You… you devil!” Mineyama’s voice shook with fury.

Decision made, Ayumu squeezed the trigger. He’d aimed for Sada’s torso, the largest target, something that wouldn’t kill outright.

But in that very instant, Sada moved.

Ayumu’s breath caught. The bolt slammed into his head.

(Oh crap… no way… I just killed him?!)

Horror swept through him. Sada’s skull was partly blown apart, his body crumpling lifeless to the cavern floor.

(No, no—this wasn’t supposed to happen!)

He scanned the shadows, terrified someone might have seen. But there was no undoing it.

(Damn it… I never meant to kill him. It wasn’t me—it was him! If Sada hadn’t tried to r*pe Mineyama, I’d never have shot. Right? It’s not my fault… right?)

But even his own excuses dragged him back into the present, trembling with the raw terror of what he’d done.

Without a word, Ayumu slipped away, hurrying into the dark passage before anyone could find him.
