Volume 1 Chapter 47 Quest: Obsidian To Roses II

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Unfortunately, both horses had been killed.

With no other choice, Kian asked Franciska where they had tied up their horses, only to find out they had come on foot.

It seemed everyone was short on money and had used a nearby cave as an impromptu hideout to keep an eye on the ‘Labyrinth of Roses.’ Just like with the Griffin, Funnelwing seemed to have a tendency to put a lot of effort into strange directions.

In hindsight, he must have been quite out of touch with ordinary people.

That might be why he was able to effectively utilize Rosen and Franciska to elevate the ‘Falcon Brigade’ to a mid-level party.

In any case, Aliona created 2 golems in place of horses.

They were rock-made figures resembling 3-meter-tall gorillas.

To be honest, even one of them looked ten times stronger than Funnelwing.

Kian entrusted Franciska and the others to Serena and rode with Aliona and the remaining golem.

He wouldn’t waste the travel time.

While being held in the golem’s arms, he explained to Serena and Aliona what had happened in the labyrinth.

He omitted the part about him slaughtering the adventurers and the unsettling things ‘glasses’ had said, but both of them listened quietly without pressing for details.

The golem dropped them off at the plains in front of a town on the eastern outskirts of the Franz Kingdom.

The knights and guards were on edge, still searching for the missing Sophia.

It would have been like asking the soldiers to get involved if they rode the golem into the town.

Since the eastern drawbridge of the town on the eastern outskirts of the Franz Kingdom was already raised, Aliona created a teleportation gate for them to make a short-distance move into the town.

They teleported to a back alley on East Street.

From the dark back alley, they could see many drunken adventurers passing by on the main East Street.

It had been evening when they left the town, but it seemed it was just around the time dinner was ending now.

Kian said goodbye to Franciska and Rosen in the back alley.

They were unnecessary for the upcoming adventure.

He ordered them to go home and sent them off from the back alley.

With the burden gone, Kian headed towards ‘The Boar’s Trot Inn’ with Serena and Aliona.

They passed through the dim East Street and entered the bright central street.

After going through a clothing store on the central street, they arrived in an area filled with taverns.

In front of one of them, a fairly large and tidy place that was packed today, Kian stopped.

 ”This is it.”

”It’s full, isn’t it? More customers are still coming in.”

Serena said as she peeked inside.

Meanwhile, Aliona widened her eyes slightly, looking up at the impressive sign of ‘The Boar’s Trot Inn’.

 ”Is something wrong, Ms. Aliona?”

 ”Oh, no…”

Aliona shook her head and smiled.

”I’ve never seen the inn where Kian lives before. He lived in such a nice place.”

”Are you saying I lived in a terrible place?”

 ”Uh… well…”

”Don’t make that face. I’m the one who used to buy medicine from Ms. Aliona at a low price. Normally, I wouldn’t be able to stay at such a nice inn.”

”…Yes, I mean, Robert was successful in managing it. … Even though he was in such a terrible mental state that day… There are really a lot of strong-minded people among humans.”

Aliona said, squinting her eyes in a dazed manner.

”Let’s go in. Please follow me.”

Saying that, Kian stepped into ‘The Boar’s Trot Inn.’ A stuffy heat rushed in, mixed with the strong smell of alcohol.

Avoiding the drunken and excited adventurers, Kian skillfully made his way to the counter at the back.

 ”Esther.”

”Ah, Mr. Kian, welcome back… Oh, who are those people over there?”

The cute waitress with brown hair, Esther, looked up from the glass she was polishing.

 Her usual ponytail bounced slightly.

Kian shifted to the side and pointed at Serena and Aliona.

”This Wolfmen here is Serena. She’s an adventurer and my companion. And this is Ms. Aliona, who works as an ale inspector at the monastery on the outskirts of town.”

 ”Nice to meet you.”

”Hello, I’m Aliona. I’m temporarily joining the party. Nice to meet you.”

”Uh, um… I’m Esther Pigfoot, the daughter of the tavern’s owner.”

Esther said this while staring wide-eyed at Serena and Aliona, then glanced down at her belly wrapped in her serving outfit.

Her bright smile dimmed a bit, and she sent a worried look toward Kian.

”Actually, I need to talk to you and Mr. Robert. It’s something difficult to discuss here, um…”

Kian turned around to look at the adventurers who were drinking and having a good time.

”If you could take a break from serving, I’d like to change locations.”

”Oh, sure. That’s fine. The busy time is over, and now it’s just adding a few drinks here and there.”

 ”Then, I’m sorry to ask.”

”Yes. ──MelMel! Sorry, can you take over for a bit?”

Esther called another waitress and switched places at the counter.

She shook her ponytail as she stepped out to the hall.

”Is it okay to go to the main house? I think my dad is in his room.”

 ”Thank you.”

 ”You’re welcome.”

After giving a faint smile, Esther nervously stole glances at Serena and Aliona’s faces.

Serena had a question mark floating above her head, while Aliona subtly stepped a bit closer to Kian.

Kian pretended not to notice Esther and Aliona’s gazes as he started walking toward the back door.
