”Lizzie, you’ve really hated Fringilla since forever, haven’t you?”
”──────! Natasha, are you planning to abandon me? Just because I suggested taking money from McCutchen?”
”Elizabeth”
Oswald quietly calls out to her.
Head magician Lizzie lets out a small gasp.
She slowly backs away from the golden man who is approaching her.
”W-what, are you going to kill me? You can’t, right? We have a contract with a magic scroll! The condition for my betrayal is that my identity and safety are guaranteed!”
”I won’t kill you. I’ll keep my promise. ──But you will face punishment.”
”W-wait, wha──!?”
A loud slap resounds as Oswald’s hand strikes Lizzie’s cheek.
The Head magician on the ground lets out a pitiful sound as she crawls away from Oswald.
”Hiiiii!”
”Natasha, chain this woman in the adventurer guild’s cellar. Bind her hands with silver handcuffs to restrict her magic power.”
”Alright, as you command.”
”Wait! Natasha, stop! We’re friends, right? Why isn’t anyone helping me!?”

”…Ugh. O-okay! Oswald, you can’t kill me anyway. I’ll just be locked up for a bit! Isn’t that right?”
”──────”
Oswald remains silent.
The Head magician takes a small breath.
Natasha cuffs her friend the witch and drags her away with the help of the surrounding knights.
After a while, the witch’s angry voice echoed, but it eventually faded away.
Owl snorted next to Kian.
”It’s quite questionable whether Elizabeth truly killed Fringilla. Oswald might have known and let it happen as he pleased. If he’s keeping Princess Maribel, then beings like Fringilla and Christina would be a hindrance.”
”I also don’t plan to trust him completely. It’s alright.”
”That’s the spirit. Oswald is an abominable man despite his appearance, so please be careful not to be deceived by his facade.”
”────I showed you something unsightly, didn’t I?”
As the head magician’s figure vanished, Oswald stepped forward again.
He looked up at Kian and continued.
”So, we are to find a compromise, are we?”
”Yes.”
Oswald spread his arms, clad in golden armor.
”My demands are simple. The transfer of Her Excellency Maribel and the occupation of Main Castle. I may allow the surviving guards to escape outside. I can’t guarantee what happens after that, though.”
”Sir Oswald intends to place Her Excellency Maribel as a decorative queen and control politics behind the scenes, is that it?”
”Objectively, it may seem that way. However, Kian, I don’t want you to be disillusioned, so I will explain. This is merely an emergency measure.”
”What do you mean by that?”
”You must have been closely observing the upper echelons of this nation called Izerland, alongside me and Her Excellency Maribel, these past few weeks. Starting with Her Excellency Maribel: McCutchen, Waterman, Natasha, Homolka, Owl, Renaud, and myself, Oswald──what did you think? How did you feel? Surely, you haven’t been enjoying city life aimlessly without any thoughts.”
”────”
”For example, how did McCutchen appear to you? Did he seem like a wise aide? Did he seem capable of managing this desire-filled frontier effectively? ──The answer is no, right? Then what about the pigs behind me?”
”P-pigs!? Lord Oswald, are you referring to us?”
The 3 head magicians stirred, but Oswald remained silent as ever.
This is merely a prediction, however.
Perhaps, Oswald feels no value in the Head magicians since the moment they abandoned the barrier of the Main Castle and came outside.
He has knowledge of politics and magic, and can use them as a tool for teleportation, but he shouldn’t need a ‘tool’ that is greedy and schemes evil.
The Oswald that Kian has seen in this frontier was such a cold person.
The title Knights of the Sun, which has a warm image, is much more suitable for Eleonora.
But he, a cold sun, a cruel sun that burns all enemies to ashes──.
Still, Kian believes that is the essence of that golden youth.
”So, Sir Oswald will ‘assist’ Her Excellency Maribel and guide this frontier in the right direction?”
”Rightness varies from person to person. However, I intend to fulfill my wishes while bringing certain benefits and peace to this frontier. I have confidence in that. At least, it will be a better voyage than leaving the helm to McCutchen and the Head magicians.”
”Specifically?”
”Specifically, you ask? Hey, are you planning to make me give a long and boring political speech here? If you do that, the *night will break*!”
”If we surrender, how much will Her Excellency Maribel’s freedom be guaranteed?”
”Of course, I intend to respect her will to the fullest.”
”You will engage in politics with Her Excellency Maribel in a relationship of equality or greater?”
”Ah, that is my intention. I will do my utmost!”
”Then why do you surround the Main Castle and command the transfer of Her Excellency Maribel? May I ask, do you intend to allow Ms. Christy and Archbishop Homolka to participate in politics as before?”
”I cannot tell you that. I have not decided anything yet.”

In other words, Oswald stated that the reason he is besieging the Main Castle is solely to rescue Maribel, who is being used as a political pawn, and that once he obtains her, he will conduct politics while respecting her wishes to the fullest.
However, it is unclear how much of that is true.
As for the treatment of Christy and the others, Oswald has made no decisions──meaning he will decide as it suits him.
If, hypothetically, Christy and Liam are exiled and Owl is executed, Maribel will literally be all alone.
What would happen if Oswald, with his overwhelming military power, surrounded her in such a state?
No matter how one looks at it, it cannot be said that Maribel can engage in politics on equal terms or more with Oswald.
If she surrenders and hands Maribel over, it is highly likely that Oswald will keep her in a near house arrest state and become the dictator of this border region.
’Kian, it’s impossible to persuade that man. Quickly betray Princess Maribel and side with Oswald. Right now, you are merely an adventurer. This one said that if we teamed up, we could defeat any enemy, but it’s still too early for us to face that man.’

Rationally speaking, ‘glasses’ is right.
Christy lent him a place to stay and provided him with food.
He has also received some rewards from Maribel.
But that’s all.
When considering whether what they offered balances against Kian’s life, objectively speaking, it does not.
However, Kian had a conscience.
He had a sense of obligation.
Although it started as an accident, he had dedicated his love to Christy.
Will he trample on that and betray her?
”……”
He looks back at Maribel’s mansion, sinking into the darkness of the night.
He envisions the two women trembling in each other’s embrace on the top floor of that mansion.
For them, there is no one left but Kian.
If he abandons them, their fate will be sealed.
Will he coldly cut that off?
