Maribel’s palm struck Kian’s cheek, but the force was far too weak.
”This is a reminder so you won’t forget your vow. ──Knight, rise.”
The belly of the long sword touched each shoulder in turn.
If they adhered to the ceremony, it was impossible for the Knight to retaliate and not accept the blade willingly.
She was his master, and this was her first and last act.
”Knight, rise, your name is──”
A high voice faded into the air.
Maribel felt her dark blue eyes drawn to Kian’s 3-moon earrings swaying at his ear.
The frontier princess raised a cry from the depths of her stomach.
”Your name is, ‘The Crescent Moon Knight’, Kian of Izerland! Knight, rise!”
He stood up.
With this, another name was created, distinct from Kian Vahid, taken away by his father.
’The Crescent Moon Knight’, Kian of Izerland.
It was the first Knight’s name appointed by the frontier princess, Maribel Danofen.
”To protect the freedom and dignity of Princess Maribel and Lady Christina, I will become your sword and fight with all my might. I await good news.”
”Please take care of it. I… will be writing a letter to Oswald in my study. Christy, only if Kian and Owl are both defeated, please report to the study. I ask this of you.”
”…Manon?”
”Christy, thank you for everything so far. I hope that after this battle, happy days return.”
”…? Y-yes…”
Rufna approached Kian with a combative grin.
In contrast, Natra stood quietly, trying to calm her heart.
”Mr. Owl, I’m ready whenever.”
”When dawn comes, the sun’s power will surge. The battle will likely begin at dawn. Where shall we wait?”
This northern hall was impossible.
Facing off against Oswald means a clash between Windsong Blade and the Sun Magic Sword.
Keeping Maribel and the others out of it is the top priority.
”…At the marble staircase in front of the South Wing”
”Understood. Then, let’s move.”
”Yes. Natra, Rufna, let’s go.”
”Yes””Heh heh heh, My arms are itching.”
”──Kian”
As they leave the room, Kian is called back by someone.
Turning around, he sees Maribel walking towards him, taking off the ring from her hand.
”These are charm and curse-prevention rings. …As long as you have them on, even if Oswald gets close, your body shouldn’t burn.”
”Wait, Manon, if you take it off, you-“
”It’s no longer needed for me. Please, take it.”
”Thank you.”
”Good luck.”
Christy, covered in guilt, hesitantly comes out beside Maribel, who is folding her hands in prayer.
”Come back safely. …If you’re alive, no matter what, I’ll help you.”
”Thank you. I love you, Christy.”
”…I’m, such a worthless woman. …I’m sorry. But, don’t lose.”
Kian nods and turns his back on them.
It’s a battle.
This boundary’s final showdown after weeks of fighting.
His opponent is the strongest swordsman who has burned countless strong foes.
Not for himself.
Probably for the first time, fighting only to help others.
’Kian. Are you really going?’
(Ah. What a foolish master I am)
’I won’t allow it…. I won’t let anyone kill you. You are this one’s. This one’s Knight.’
(‘Glasses’)
’……’
There is no answer.
’Glasses’ falls silent again.
* * *
And one day, the night will break.
Because there is no such thing as an endless night.
”――――.”
As he gazed down from the top of the long marble staircase in front of the South Wing, looking toward the drawbridge of the Main Castle, a violent tremor and a deafening blast erupted just as the eastern sky began to lighten.
A massive surge of heat, like the sun itself.
A crimson flame shattered the barrier in one swing, turning the area around Main Castle’s gate into a scorching wasteland.
Leaping over the moat where the drawbridge had been burned to its roots, a swordsman in golden light armor landed within Main Castle’s grounds.
”────”
It’s Oswald.
He cut down the remaining Owl monster soldiers who charged at him, scattering them with a single swing of his ‘Sun Magic Sword’.
From the wasteland around the gate, he moved to the bottom of the marble staircase in a flash using his ‘Domain’.
”Time it, Kian!”
He looked up with golden eyes.
The Sun Pierce glittered in the dawn light.
The young man enveloped in golden light raised his voice.
”I’ve come for an answer! Surrender or death! Choose!”
”────”
Kian remained silent, drawing the Windsong Blade from the Night Wraith.
Oswald’s eyes contorted.
”Kian…, you’re really going to fight me?”
”────”
Meeting his silent gaze, Oswald clenched his lips.
From behind, Aisha and the rest of his Knights rode in.
”Kian…!”
