Volume 2 Chapter 104 Dawn Of Izerland II

 ”Kian…”

The red eyes narrowed at close range.

He was aiming for Oswald’s neck with a blade from his forelimb.

Kian deflected it with his longsword.

 Maribel shouted.

 ”Owl, please stop!”

”Maribel! There’s no way we can let Oswald live!”

Owl shook the ground as he turned to face the small princess.

He continued, pointing his long claws.

”This man is a slave to greed and power! That won’t change until he dies! And even after being defeated by Kian, he’s still chosen by the Holy Sword of the Sun! You can’t possibly keep such a dangerous man alive!”

”Oswald is someone necessary for the future of Izerland. He won’t be killed. He will live.”

Maribel gazed straight into the vampire’s eyes with her blue ones and stood her ground.

Owl murmured, “What a naive thing to say…” but it was clear he couldn’t say anything more in response to Maribel’s resolute stance.

 ”…Kian”

A small voice came from behind.

Turning around, Oswald was looking at them.

 ”Thank you… you saved me.”

 ”No.”

 ”────”

 That was all their conversation.

Oswald exhaled softly, then closed his eyes as if giving up, and became still.

”Issue a surrender notice to Aisha.”

”Are you going to let Aisha go as well?”

”Yes. I’ll save all of Oswald’s surviving knights.”

 ”────”

”Oswald. This is the price for your life. You will enter a magical contract with me. You have no right to refuse.”

”…I understand, Your Excellency. All my desperate thoughts on how to save my subordinates have come to nothing.”

A young man with closed eyes muttered as he resigned himself to the situation.

Owl still seemed like he wanted to say something, flapping his wings nervously, but eventually he relaxed and returned to his human form.

He pushed up the bridge of his glasses nervously and looked at Kian.

 ”Is there something?”

 ”…No, Kian.”

Owl shook his head, but he must have seen the blonde girl who suddenly appeared during the fight with Oswald.

Maybe──he’s familiar with the person behind ‘glasses.’

But before asking Owl, he should really ask ‘glasses’ directly.

That’s the proper way to go about it.

”Kian, thank you so much for your help.”

”We still haven’t subdued Ms. Aisha or the Knights outside. Please hold off on any rewards until those are taken care of.”

”I’ve already taken care of Aisha. I handled it myself.”

 Owl said this casually.

Oswald raised an eyebrow in surprise.

”You didn’t do anything to Aisha, did you?”

”Before I could do anything, I was ordered to keep her alive by Her Excellency Maribel… You should be thanking Her Excellency for that.”

 ”……”

”I’m heading out to subdue the soldiers outside.”

Kian said this while handing a longsword to Natra.

He picked up the Windsong Blade, which was lying in a heap behind him like junk.

This magic sword, which had been a reliable partner for the past few weeks, was badly gouged at its center.

Even if he wanted to repair it, he couldn’t take it to just any blacksmith.

He’d have to see if Renaud could help with the repairs.

Kian carefully sheathed the Windsong Blade and stood up.

Christy was busy putting handcuffs on Oswald’s arms and legs while administering some basic healing.

However, his bones were still misaligned, and the blood he lost wouldn’t just come back.

It seemed necessary to have a specialist take a look later.

They should probably take him to the healing clinic at the fortress’s Guild.

 ”────”

 Owl teleported silently.

He likely went outside the castle walls to persuade Oswald’s soldiers who were waiting out there.

Before they knew it, the Holy Sword of the Sun had also vanished.

”The sheath still chooses you, doesn’t it?”

 ”────”

”Oswald, please watch closely as I create Izerland from the depths of this labor facility.”

 ”Huh?”

 The golden youth snorted derisively.

Yet, Maribel maintained a serious expression.

”Which will come first: me acquiring the power to replace you, or you changing your beliefs? Shall we make a wager?”

”How about a bet on Renaud? I absolutely hate taking chances where I might lose.”

”You really do lie a lot, don’t you?”

 ”――――.”

Looking up at the sky, the night created by Owl was gradually beginning to brighten.

The barrier was starting to dissolve.

The real sky was about to welcome dawn to this Main Castle.

 ”――――.”

Maribel, drawn by Kian, looked up at the sky.

The female lord of Izerland, who had made a decision that could spark mixed opinions, squinted her dark blue eyes as she gazed toward the eastern sky.

Soon, the eastern side──the water moat──became lively.

Looking closer, Liam and Serena were running toward them.

They rounded their eyes in surprise at the destruction before them and gathered around the young lord, seeking an explanation.

(Maribel’s ‘kingdom’ is surely going to start from here.)

Watching from the outside, Kian thought to himself.

Natra suddenly tugged at his sleeve.

”We must go help Lord Owl with the suppression.”

 ”That’s right.”

 ”Is combat possible?”

 ”No problem.”

Although the life force supplied by Natra was thin, he had managed with even less magic power before.

He was more than capable of fighting.

Kian silenced his presence and quietly moved away from Maribel’s side.

 Oswald was already unconscious.

There would be no resistance from him.

 (The long night is breaking.)

 The morning breeze swept through.

 The sky had brightened.

 (It’s the dawn of Izerland.)

Kian murmured to himself and quickened his pace toward the outside of the Main Castle.
