”I see. It’s good to avoid unnecessary fights.”

Oswald said casually as he offered the hand with the baked apple to the giant knight.

 ”Want to eat?”

”Hah! I have no intention of eating anything you prepared!”

”This is a snack for all the knights in the meeting room… Well, fine. Kian, how about you? The baked apple is delicious. It was harvested from the northern──royal capital.”

 ”Um…”

Caught off guard by the unexpected offer, Kian hesitated, but there was no option to refuse at this moment.

He stepped away from the furniture against the wall and exited the meeting room.

Receiving the baked apple from Oswald, he took a bite.

The aroma filled his nose, and the taste of the fruit gradually spread across his tongue.

”Owl, if you’re not going to duel, I wish you wouldn’t make such a scary face. As I said earlier, we have a guest.”

”By the way, who is that?”

”This is Kian. He’s an adventurer from the East End. I invited him here recently.”

 ”Hmm…”

 ”An Azraelian?”

The owl knight’s voice trembled strangely.

Whether he noticed it or not, Oswald placed a hand on Kian’s shoulder as he chewed the apple.

”He’s very strong. He might even be stronger than the ‘Knights of the Sun’.”

”Oh really… He doesn’t look like it to me.”

”Sorry for the late introduction, Kian. This one with the bird feathers is Owl. He’s known as the Owl Knight and secretly runs a jewelry business.”

 ”…Hello… I’m Kian.”

”This big guy is Renaud de Châtillon. He’s also a knight and a noble lord near the sea. He usually lives in the fortress city and runs a weapons business. Though, it seems he himself is a craftsman who makes weapons and armor, leaving the management to his son.”

”Nice to meet you, Mr. Renaud.”

Kian offered a gentle smile and extended his hand, but Renaud merely glared at him.

”That armor is made of a material I’ve never seen before.”

 ”Huh?”

 ”Show me.”

Saying this, he roughly grabbed Kian’s arm and pulled him closer.

He leaned in, observing the ‘Nightshade’ coat with his bearded face as if to lick it.

Since he was a noble lord, Kian couldn’t refuse him awkwardly.

After a moment of patience, Renaud slowly released his grip.

”…It’s an amazing piece of armor. The material is Remi Cain, right? But it’s different from the usual stuff. The fabric of that coat comes from a rare individual with extremely smooth and tough skin.”

 ”Y-yeah…”

”Where did you get that armor?”

 ”Hey, hey, Renaud.”

 Oswald interrupted with a laugh.

”Are you trying to get information for free? That’s not right.”

”…Indeed, valuable things require a price. Hey, you, Kian, was it? How much will you sell that coat to me for?”

”This is not for sale. No matter how much a noble asks.”

 ”Ah!?”

 Renaud bared his teeth.

”I won’t let you suffer a loss! I’m saying I’ll pay you, so hand it over!”

 ”That’s just ridiculous…”

”──Kian, you don’t have to listen to this brute. Status doesn’t matter. If you show him that you’re above him, Renaud won’t be able to say anything.”

 ”Wha!?”

 ”Ah!? What did you say!?”

(Why is this person saying something that sounds so complicated!?)

’It may seem chaotic, but it strikes at the truth. The best way to deal with that rude thief is to show him your strength. There is no need to meekly submit to exploitation.’

The ‘glasses’ also seemed to be resisting.

Kian had no intention of handing over the ‘Nightshade’ coat to this thieving giant.

In fact, he thought it would be absolutely wrong to do so.

However, the loser mentality that had settled in over 15 years…

(No, that’s right. Oswald is right.)

Kian looked up at the giant who was peering down at him with a flushed face.

Just like when facing a monster.

He took a deep breath and steeled himself.

(I’ve changed. With the help of ‘glasses’, I’ve overcome several life-and-death battles.)

The adventures he had experienced in such a short time.

They had become not just simple combat experiences, but a great source of confidence that had become part of Kian’s very being.

 Kian stepped forward toward Renaud.

 ”I cannot sell this coat.”

”You dare to stand against me, Renaud de Châtillon!? Courage and recklessness are not the same! Do you understand that!?”

”I understand. But this coat is an important piece of armor that protects me; it’s my tool for business. I can’t just hand it over.”

”That’s right, that’s good. You don’t need to fear him, Kian. You should understand your own strength well.”

”──Oswald, what are you trying to do by provoking Renaud de Châtillon?”

The knight with the bird feathers──Owl──was holding Renaud’s arm and pulling him back.

It seemed he was also protecting Kian.

”Renaud, stop it. Taking equipment from the commoner is the act of a thief. I will not allow such cruelty.”

 ”Shut up!”

Renaud shook off Owl’s arm and pointed his finger at Kian’s chest.

”I’m in a bad mood today! Because of that blonde punk over there, I feel like I want to punch someone!”

”Hah, someone like you should be expelled from the ‘Knights of the Sun’ at once.”

 ”I agree with that, Oswald.”

 ”It’s a duel!”

Renaud shouted that and threw a wrapped sword to the soldiers who had gathered nearby.

He glared at Kian, his black mustache trembling.

”If I knock you down, that coat will be mine!”

”That wouldn’t be fair. What are you offering in return?”

The giant knight shot an angry glance at Oswald’s interruption, but then clicked his tongue at the owl knight who seemed ready to jump in.

”Fine, I’ll wager that sword! It’s a magic sword made from the materials of the ‘Wind-Eating Varglips’ that was rampaging in the south!”

”You don’t have to accept such a reckless challenge.”

Owl placed a hand on Kian’s shoulder and stepped forward protectively.

He drew his staff from his back and faced Renaud.

”I’ll make this lawless man understand here.”

”Bring it on! I was getting tired of your smug face! I’ll crush you with my hammer!”

”Hey, hey, are you really planning to kill each other?”

Oswald, the one who started the fire, leaned elegantly against the wall outside the strategy meeting room, casually biting into an apple.

He seemed to have no intention of stopping them.

However, the surrounding squire knights rushed in with pale faces, stepping between the two to hold them back.

”You can’t do this, Sir Owl!”

”It’s fine. It’ll just be a bit of a fistfight.”

”That’s a huge problem! Someone’s going to end up dead!”
