Volume 2 Chapter 27 Night Out With The Sister I ♡

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”Ms. Aliona, thank you again today.”

”No, no, I appreciate it as well.”

At the convent located on the outskirts of East End.

With the darkened building in the background, Aliona was saying goodbye to Serena.

This scene had become familiar over the past few weeks.

After finishing her duties at the convent, Serena would visit during her free time before dinner, helping with her work as a sage.

Of course, it wasn’t for free.

Serena had broken the Magic Dagger and staff that she had borrowed from Aliona at ‘Labyrinth of Roses,’ and she was repaying her by working part-time.

Thanks to her help with potion making, Aliona now had more free time in the evenings, and Serena was taking over the procurement of the materials for the potions that Kian had been handling until now.

Aliona felt that Serena was helping her more than what a part-time wage could cover, so she had gifted her a few spellbooks she had once used as a bonus.

They were old and marked with notes, but Serena was very pleased.

It seemed that her interest in magic had sparked, prompting her to start studying on her own.

Though Aliona thought to herself that the girl was supposed to be a swordsman──she maintained her principle of not interfering too much in others’ lives.

However, when she was asked for explanations about the writings in the spellbooks, she made sure to prepare materials and teach her thoroughly.

By the way, she had also used the time after her part-time job today to teach Serena about magic.

Although she has only done the basics, Serena is young and has a good memory, and more than anything, she is eager to absorb knowledge.

She heard that she didn’t want to lose to Kian.

They are just a professional pairing, without any romantic feelings, so she thought they would break up if their skills didn’t match.

This is common in adventurer parties.

Kian, even though he never told Aliona, must have been kicked out of countless parties.

 (Everyone is desperate to survive)

Aliona looked down at Serena, who was cradling the newly acquired grimoire in her hands, and thought this.

Because she was desperate, she shone young and beautifully, almost exuding a fragrance.

Despite being part of human society, she felt a strong sense of ‘wildness’.

At the very least, this girl before her was fundamentally different from Aliona.

After retiring and retreating to the countryside for a relaxed slow life, she felt as if she was letting ‘mold’ grow on her as a woman.

Just the other day, she had shamefully barged into town, after all──.

 ”Ms. Aliona?”

”Ah… n-no, it’s nothing. Be careful on your way home, and don’t forget to review. Those may not be words you need, but──”

 ”No, thank you very much.”

 The silver-haired girl smiled gently.

At first, Aliona thought she seemed cold, but as they warmed up to each other, she turned out to be straightforward and surprisingly expressive──a good girl.

”Too much training can be toxic. Make sure to take breaks, okay?”

 ”Yes, I understand… but I can’t lose to Kian.”

”Ms. Serena, you will be fine. I’m more worried that you might overdo it and hurt yourself. So, try not to stress too much, alright?”

 ”Yes.”

”Good. Well then, see you tomorrow at the same time.”

 ”Yes, goodbye.”

Serena bows politely, turns away, and heads home along the farm road as the sun sets.

A crescent moon was floating in the sky, illuminating her silver hair and swaying silver tail.

 ”…..”

Aliona waved with a smile until the girl’s back was out of sight.

When her silver hair finally sank into the undulating farm road, she finally turned around.

By this time, all the nuns should be in bed.

Since Serena was making things easy for her, she thought she might as well get some sleep.

(Tonight I’ll go to bed early, and tomorrow I’ll go and apologize to Kian for the other day. …No, I can’t. If I don’t wait a little longer, he’ll think I’m a shady woman with ulterior motives. Maybe in a week or 2… I’ll pop in when he’s forgotten about me.)

It was her first time having a boyfriend.

She didn’t even know how to handle her own feelings.

She wasn’t just getting older without reason; using her experience outside of romance, she managed to keep her cool.

(His other girlfriend was younger, and a human at that. She understood that this was an important time in his life. As an older elf, strong in her desires, she needed to maintain proper restraint.)

According to what Serena had said, Kian seemed to have passed his exam.

If so, he would likely work hard to aim for the rank of intermediate adventurer next.

Reaching intermediate rank would provide enough wealth to live modestly, even in retirement.

”As his girlfriend, I have to support Kian. Alright, you need to focus now, Aliona,”

The elf sister made a small fist, then turned to head back towards the monastery’s back entrance.

* * *

The back entrance of the monastery had a simple storage space that connected to the kitchen at the back.

She conducted trade with merchants dealing in cheese, spices, and meat in the space outside the kitchen.

It was an open area typical of a rural monastery, without locks or doors.

Aliona quickly entered, preparing to cast her barrier as usual.

 But──,

 ”…Who?”

Suddenly, she heard a whispering voice, and Aliona lowered her stance.

Her elf-like sharpened senses alerted her that someone was sitting on a peeling chair in the kitchen.

With her magic in a silent chant standby, Aliona stepped into the dark kitchen.

A figure sitting next to the water source in the back quickly stood up.

 ”Good evening, Ms. Aliona”

 ”Kian!?”

 ”Sorry for the sudden visit”

Saying this in a tone that was not the least bit remorseful, the young man appeared from the darkness.

Aliona breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the Azraelian monk wearing ‘glasses’.

”Oh come on, don’t scare me! I thought you were a thief!”

”I’m sorry. If I didn’t keep quiet, someone might notice me.”

”The lights have already gone out. Unless someone comes for a midnight snack, no one will be getting up…. What’s wrong? You seem to be soaking wet.”

Aliona directed her green eyes toward the young man’s floral jacket.

He gave off an unpleasant odor of a detergent made from animal fat.

”I had to go into the sewage for work… It’s not like I could just walk around town like this, so I washed up. I’m sorry for coming into the kitchen looking like this.”

”What!? No way, this is really happening!”

”Even angry Ms. Aliona is beautiful…”

”Stop saying foolish things and hurry up and get out!”

Not a metaphor or anything, but in her anger, Aliona furrowed her brows and yelled softly.

When she grabbed his arm, she felt the hardness of his muscles and was taken aback, but she maintained her composure and pulled him outside.

”I’ll run a bath for you, so get in! You’ll catch a cold otherwise.”

”No, actually, I came here today to get my shoulder injury checked out. I thought it would heal on its own, but now it feels like the pain is getting worse.”

 ”Which one?”

 ”This one.”

Kian slipped his jacket open to reveal his physique.

His developed pectoral muscles from an improved diet caught Aliona’s attention.

The elf sister tried to pretend not to notice and let her gaze linger on the swollen injury.

”There are several deep gouges…. The area is swollen and hot. Can you move your arm normally, Kian? You don’t have to actually move it.”

 ”Yeah. No problem.”

”This is a wound caused by the 4th group of spines on the wyvern’s tail, right? I wonder when it was inflicted on you?”

 ”Yesterday afternoon”

”What kind of dangerous adventure did you go on…”

 ”Hahaha”

”…There doesn’t appear to be any pus or broken pieces of the thorns. Any fever or vomiting?”

 ”No, there isn’t”
