Volume 2 Chapter 54 Knights Of The Sun

”The part you’re responsible for might be small, but more hands are always better. …And since they’re your partner, I’m sure they’re a muscular macho and just as much of a weirdo, right?”
”They’re fit, but not overly buff. And I wouldn’t call them a weirdo, but they’re a Beastman from a tribal society, so their values are a bit different from ours. Still, they’re a good person overall.”
”Can you handle the payment? Even if Waterman accepts your partner, they’ll probably only pay you.”
”No problem. Actually, they owe me money. I’ve told them they don’t have to pay it back, but they’re stubborn about it. I’m planning to use this job as a way to clear the debt.”
That way, Serena could use the 50 silver coins she owed Kian to buy weapons.
(It’s been a while since we’ve met, so I’d like to catch up. I heard she’s been learning magic under Ms. Aliona. I wonder how far she’s progressed.)
”It looks like I’ll have to rely on your teleportation to get to East End. Is that okay?”
”Sure. Right now, I’m your watcher. As long as you don’t do anything strange, I’m your personal magician.”
(Interesting interpretation…)
It’s probably not a good idea to let the person you’re watching leave the fortress without reason, but Kian isn’t planning to run away or cause trouble.
In this case, Christy’s judgment is sound.
”That’s a big help. Thanks.”
”…Yeah.”
’She is acting all shy after just 3 days of s*x. Typical reaction from a mentally unstable virgin.’
(‘Glasses,’ have you woken up?)
’I’ve decided it is proper etiquette to meditate while you are having s*x with other women.’
(I’m glad you’re so understanding. If I heard your voice while I was thrusting, I might lose my focus and go soft.)
’What do you mean by that? Are you picking a fight?’
”Well, we’re done eating, so let’s go!”
Christy stood up across from him.
Kian, who had already finished eating, stood up as well (literally getting up from the chair, not his… you know).
”Should we take the plates to the water area?”
”Sure. I’ll wash them with hot water. ──Kian”
As he stacked Christy’s dishes, she stole a kiss from the side.
Their lips brushed briefly, and then her hand casually stroked his p**is.
”…A goodbye kiss.”
”You’re coming with me, though.”
”Yeah, but I’ll do it anyway. …Come back as early as you can tonight, okay?”
”Got it.”
”And, outside, act as professional as usual. I’d be embarrassed if people found out we’re together.”
”I know. I’ll make sure to act like you’re just my watcher.”
After saying that, Kian leaned in and kissed her this time.
Christy’s cheeks flushed as she closed her eyes.
Her heels lifted.
They embraced each other, sharing a long, deep kiss.
When their lips finally parted, a silver thread lingered between them.
* * *
Oswald’s mansion seemed to be located beyond the main street, where buildings like the Adventurers’ Guild stood in clusters.
The invitation included a map, but since Christy knew the way, he decided to let her guide them.
”Long-distance teleportation is forbidden within the fortress.”
She said this as they crossed the bustling morning street.
Kian walked beside her, shielding her from the crowd.
”Oswald’s house is over there, past the street that runs parallel to this one. It’s perfectly distanced from the main street, so the noise doesn’t reach it. Yet, in case of an emergency, it’s close enough to access the fortress’s secondary core.”
They crossed the main street.
Next, they entered a side street that intersected perpendicularly with the main road.
It was somewhat narrower, only wide enough for about 3 carriages.
After walking for about 15 minutes, the noise faded, and they entered an area lined with tall residential buildings.
”It’s over there.”
They turned off the street onto a side path, and after a while──
Christy pointed with her staff to the end of a curved cobblestone road.
There were no buildings around. Instead, there were lush green trees, so many that it seemed like a mistake in urban planning.
In front of them stood a large black iron gate.
Beyond the gate was a white mansion as grand as the Adventurers’ Guild in East End.
It had the solemn, open architecture of a temple near the sea.
The recent renovation work had clearly been completed, giving the place a very fresh impression.
”This is where Sir Oswald and Ms. Aisha──”
”Aisha doesn’t live here.”
”Huh?”
Christy banged the iron gate handle loudly to call the gatekeeper.
”She has a large mansion elsewhere. Not as big as Oswald’s, but she’s super rich.”
”No wonder the ‘Knights of the Sun’ are so strong…”
”It’s almost strange how they follow Manon’s house. If the current leader and vice-leader of the ‘Knights of the Sun’ were to step down, things could get messy. Their presence is a big reason why the Margrave family and the ‘Knights of the Sun’ get along so well.”
”The vice-leader──of the Knights of the Sun?”
”Though ‘former’ might be added to that title soon.”
As Christy was having that conversation, an armed soldier approached from inside and asked for their business.
When they showed the invitation they had received, the soldier said, “Ah, it’s you,” and opened the gate for them.
The front yard was covered in grass, with a fountain in the center.
Beyond it stood a large white building.
A grand white staircase, like something you’d see in a public institution, led up to a platform above.
Kian glanced toward the back gate.
”There’s even a road for carriages. This place is huge.”
”More extravagant than Manon’s old-fashioned north wing, right?”
”Shouldn’t we call it ‘elegant’ instead?”
”I hate the toilets in Manon’s house. They’re not even flushable.”
Despite the gatekeeper being right in front of them (to guide Kian and the others), Christy showed no restraint.
Kian felt like he’d have to correct her behavior later, perhaps in bed, as he followed the guide up the stairs.
And then──.
”Huh…?”
”Oh my.”
From the top of the stairs, a noblewoman holding a white parasol was descending.
With the morning sun shining brightly behind her from the mansion, her face was hard to see.
But her fiery red hair seemed to curl elegantly at the ends.
”Ah, this is──Lady Eleonora.”
The gatekeeper guiding them bowed politely.
”Are you leaving already?”
”Yes. I only came to return the holy sword. I don’t plan to stay long.”
The red-haired noblewoman clicked her heels as she descended to where Kian and the others stood.
The backlight faded, and her face became clearly visible.
Her sharp eyebrows and piercing green eyes──
She was a beautiful woman in her late twenties with a stern aura.
Her posture and features suggested a soldier rather than a noble.
Despite the lack of resemblance, Kian was reminded of Serena.
The noblewoman slightly parted her lips, painted with lipstick, and stared intently at Kian.
”And you are?”
”This is Sir Kian, an adventurer.”
”I’m Kian. I’ve come at Sir Oswald’s invitation.”
”Ah, I see. So you’re the Kian Oswald mentioned.”
The vibrant red-haired beauty smiled brightly and swiftly extended her hand.
”I am Eleonora of Sunlightland. A woman who will soon no longer be part of the Knights of the Sun. Feel free to call me Eleonora. ──Pleased to make your acquaintance.”
