Volume 2 Chapter 69 Development Of Natra I
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
As the second wooden sword broke, it was time for a dinner break, and Kitsune headed out to the hills with Tengu and the other Wraiths.
Outside, it seemed that 150 knights of Waterman were on high alert, but Kitsune said that using the underground waterway would allow them to slip past the guards without issue.
Kian took some ingredients from Christy’s pantry and prepared a meal for 3.
By the time he finished dinner, his body suddenly felt filled with magic power.
It seems that Kitsune had captured prey and had it absorbed into Natra’s body.
After being stabbed in the abdomen by Kian and having both wrists broken, Natra’s body was nearly lifeless.
By supplementing with meat, the body was repaired and regained its original form, thus beginning the supply of magic power from the familiar that was supposed to occur.
In other words, it was grazing and collection.
For now, it was just Kitsune, but if the other Night Wraiths were also given bodies capable of generating magic power and allowed to hunt regularly, they would send the surplus magic power their way.
The more familiars like Kitsune there are, the more Kian can compensate for his weakness of having a low amount of magic power.
”With this, at least in terms of ‘impact,’ there will be no depletion of magic power.”
He returned to the underground training room and faced Kitsune.
The underground was illuminated by soft lighting, making it easy to lose track of day and night after a long time.
However, that was preferable for intensive training with Kitsune.
He wanted to minimize any unnecessary noise as much as possible.
”I also picked up plenty of lumber and sturdy branches. If we need more, I can have the Tengu go get some.”
Pointing to the pile of sticks stacked on the damp ground, Kitsune said calmly.
”It seems Christy and Serena are not showing any signs of returning. They’re probably out late.”
”With this mask on, I don’t think anyone will question my transformation.”
”That’s true.”
”Let’s resume. Are you ready?”
”Ah”
After exchanging the minimum necessary conversation, the battle resumed.
From then on, even the sound of the golem’s footsteps, which took care of the underground Botanical Garden, no longer bothered him.
Kitsune struck with the Windsong Blade, and Kian simply parried with a wooden stick.
The speed was slow.
As if to drill the killing moves of the dance sword technique into his body.
Although the speed at which they clashed blades was far from actual combat, the weight of each blow was not ordinary.
It was the first time he had crossed blades with a magic sword, he realized.
As the ‘impact’ was scraped away with a gritty feeling, his energy (ki) output naturally became more intense.
However, the excess magic power from Kitsune flowed into his body with even greater force.
”…Huh,…Huuuh!”
”──────”
A dry, metallic sound continued to echo through the underground training room.
The Windsong Blade’s cries also did.
He thought that if the sound reached the garden with the bath and toilet, Christy might scold him, but it seemed that the sound was not leaking out of the training room much.
The soundproofing was perfect, it seemed.
It’s no wonder that the person who built this underground empire was meticulous, as they had put a lot of effort into it.
Christy, who had returned home halfway, seemed to have come to see how he was doing, but she gave a casual reply and she went back upstairs.
”…It seems you’ve gotten used to maintaining a strong ‘impact’”
He wonders how many hours they had been exchanging blows.
Kitsune stopped swinging the Windsong Blade and said so.
”Haa…huh, haa…huh”
Kian came back to his senses.
His whole body was drenched in sweat.
At some point, he had taken off Nightshade’s coat and thrown it away.
He was left with only the shirt and pants he had been wearing under his clothes, like underwear.
He had no idea how many wooden sticks he had gone through by then.
The palm of his outstretched hand was shaking slightly.
”Please replenish your water from the pump over there. After that, add ‘pierce’ to the ‘impact’ and repeat the same pattern as before. If you can break through my defense, we’ll end it for today”
”Got it… huh?”
As he was about to head to the pump in the corner of the room, he caught sight of a silver-haired girl sleeping on the grassy floor.
Now that he thinks about it, he feels like he has been sensing Serena’s magic power for a while.
He also have a memory of her coming right after Christy and saying something about ‘observing’.
She’s not an enemy, and he had intentionally pushed her awareness out of his mind to fully respond to Natra’s movements.
”It seems she was observing intently.”
”It appears so. She must be tired, as she seems to have fallen asleep.”
”Sir Kian, next I want some water.”
”Hmm? Ah…”
Water gushed from the pump into the faucet.
He drank from it and then passed it to Kitsune.
”Gulp…, gulp…, gulp…”
A beautiful girl with black hair and tanned skin leaned down to drink from the flowing water.
Dressed in a shoulder-baring shirt and shorts, as she bent over, her budding breasts peeked out from the loosened neckline.
Her tanned skin had slightly lighter-colored areolas.
They were just a bit smaller than Serena’s.
In other words, they were somewhat modest compared to the average.
Water dripped from her well-shaped chin, wetting her throat and shirt.
After a moment, Kitsune returned to her original posture and noticed Kian’s gaze, staring back at him.
”Is there something?”
”N-no.”
”…….Let’s resume. This is the last practice for today.”
A girl who looked like Sarah said this matter-of-factly.
Now that he thinks about it, Sarah’s hair seemed longer, but that was a trivial difference.
A waft of sweat drifted from Kitsune as she passed by Kian.
The scent was faint, but it had a sweet feminine fragrance.
It was the healthy body odor of someone who often exercised and sweated.
Her sideboob peeked out from under her tank top, further stirring male desires.
”────”
(This is bad. I must discipline myself. Kill the heart. Nullify it. She is not Sarah. Calm down, Kian.)
”Sir Kian.”
”…I’m sorry. I’ll be right there.”
After that, he faced off against Kitsune again.
With those who can use ‘Leap’, distance means nothing.
Bouncing around the training room at super speed, he reviewed the deadly sword techniques he had drilled into his body in preparation for real combat.
(When attacking, not only ‘impact’ but always ‘pierce’ was also infused. I see, the power is indeed in a different league.)
When using Windsong Blade, he could slice through enemies with the sharpness and characteristics of wind blades or magic swords without needing these effects.
So while the technique was unnecessary as long as he held a magic sword, Kian was beginning to understand the ‘feeling of releasing energy’ that Kitsune had deemed more important.
Now, he intentionally avoided his usual energy-saving tactics.
He extensively tapped into the magic power flowing into his body from Kitsune to enhance his attacks and speed.
Until now, he had partially used or neglected ‘Leap,’ but now he was almost always in an activated state while exchanging blows.
When he had fought Natra, on top of that, she had confused him with supersonic movements created by her ‘domain.’
He had said that one could tell by exchanging blows, but indeed, the strength of Kian’s cards and those of Natra and her most advanced rank apostles was entirely different.
If it were the Sarah from their training days, it would be one thing, but considering the power of the now presumably stronger Sarah, the chances for victory against her would gradually diminish for John.
Accurately knowing his position and the enemy’s──.
He finally felt as if he had reached the starting line.
’You have mastered the basics. You are well acquainted with your body and sword. Because of this, you will likely learn application techniques and breaking forms quickly.’
”Hmph!”
For some reason, he executed a thrust against Kitsune, who carried little ‘impact’ on Windsong Blade, by circling behind with ‘Leap.’
And it’s covering 5 meters in one Leap.
Kitsune quickly reacted and met his Windsong Blade, but Kian’s thrust, infused with ‘pierce,’ resulted in a significant unbalancing of her core.
”…Hmph, …!”
He twisted his wrist from the thrust and changed the blade’s direction of the wooden stick.
The lifted wooden stick bore ‘pierce’ and ‘break.’
With this, he can deal damage even if the opponent is a western swordsman in sturdy armor.
