Volume 2 Chapter 88 Hear My Roar, It Will Burn The Earth To Ashes

 The mist clears.

With no target left to carve with her Secret Technique, Sarah reappeared midair, completely defenseless.

 ”Guh…!”

 A dull thud of impact.

There was no need to confirm it.

She had been stabbed deep in the stomach.

 And it was Oswald’s slash.

Flames erupted from where the blade touched, sending a surge of unbearable pain.

 ”Ah…”

With a sickening squelch, the blade was driven in even deeper.

Sarah coughed up a torrent of blood.

Clatter—her Venomous Blade slipped from her grasp.

Oswald pulled the holy sword from her burning body and kicked her in the stomach.

 Sarah reached toward him.

 The flames.

 She couldn’t breathe.

 It hurt.

 …So hot.

 (Kian…)

For some reason, as her vision faded to white, she saw a boy with a gentle smile.

”Farewell, Sarah Nakash. From now on, I will take your place in delivering judgment upon the evils of this world. Go without hesitation.”

 ”――――…”

 Her legs gave out.

Before she knew it, she was floating.

She plummeted straight down into the ravine.

A ball of fire in the darkness of night.

Reaching out, she caught sight of the Knights of the Sun, peering over the cliff’s edge.

 ”――――”

 (Everyone… Father… I’m sorry…)

After the meeting with Maribel, Shajar and his attendants arrived at a fishing village in Châtillon County—the designated rendezvous point.

From here, they would set sail and transfer to a larger magic vessel.

Up until he had insisted to Maribel’s side, “Dawn is approaching anyway. There’s no need to go through the trouble of dispelling the teleportation barrier,” everything had been going smoothly.

 But then—

 ”No one… has come.”

One of his attendants muttered. Shajar ground his teeth.

The exiled Kian Vahid, Rufna, and the Wolfmen mercenaries.

Oswald, along with their strongest asset, Sarah, and the elite force of warrior monks.

Rufna and Sarah had never once failed an assassination. Shajar, who had worked closely with them, knew their capabilities better than anyone.

 He thought it was impossible.

Yet, as a matter of reality, they wouldn’t come back.

(What kind of monster could possibly defeat them?)

 Kian Vahid as well.

Shajar had seen the power of the old Knights of the Sun, but while the former was unnecessary to mention, the latter was just a woman of no significance.

Eleonora merely wielded the power of the sun without any technique.

In the chaos of battle, that was enough, and many mercenaries insisted that flailing their weapons around was stronger than learning various forms.

However, in Shajar’s eyes, it was merely a recognition of ‘a somewhat strong monster’ that could be cooked in any manner.

To Shajar, Eleonora was just a fool.

However, Kian was no longer the Kian from before.

The Knights of the Sun had now become Oswald.

They had to be something far larger than the fighting power he knew of──.

Yet, he couldn’t let go of his old assumptions.

He believed that even mere exiles and combat slaves would surely lose before Sarah and Rufna.

Therefore, he and the others continued, causing the death of his beloved daughter, Almeisa, and his students.

”There’s still no word from Lady Rufna… I thought that with no chaos during the meetings, the assassination must have succeeded.”

”I can’t believe that Lady Sarah would be defeated. Were the Knights of the Sun truly that strong?”

 (This… can’t be…)

He turned to offense, trying to somehow stabilize the situation of the Nakash family.

He strongly vowed that he must avenge them.

 However, everything backfired on him….

The image of Sarah, who had advised him to be patient before the operation, floated in Shajar’s mind.

 ”Sarah… Ugh…”

 ”Sir Shajar…” “Lord Shajar…”

The attendants gazed somberly at the head of the Nakash family, who was stifling his sobs.

(I did something foolish. I wasn’t calm. I should have listened more to my daughters’ words.)

Shajar felt his vision darkening and blurring.

He hope this is just a bad dream, but this is undeniably reality.

 ”──Who are you?!”

Suddenly, one of the attendants looked toward the entrance of the fishing village and shouted sharply.

Shajar, still feeling as if he were floating, turned his gaze toward where his subordinate’s hostility was directed.

”Ah, we mean you no harm! We are your allies!”

A chubby old man, who resembled a fat seal, was waddling over while raising his hands and shouting.

He was accompanied by 2 armed men who looked like guards.

 Shajar recognized the man.

”The steward of Margrave Izerland──McCutchen, is it?”

 ”Yes, that’s correct, Lord Shajar!”

McCutchen struggled to walk on the soft sandy beach as he approached Shajar.

He placed his hands on his knees, panting heavily.

 ”Sir McCutchen, are you alright?”

”Ah, I’m fine, just back off.”

”What business does the steward of Princess Maribel have?”

As Shajar asked suspiciously, McCutchen spread his arms and closed the distance.

”It’s sudden, but how about we form a pact? I need an army, and you want to reverse your unfavorable situation. Our interests should align.”

”How very sudden. What exactly are you talking about?”

”I know the assassin you sent made a blunder. I expect another protest document from Maribel soon.”

 ”……”

”I too am facing a crisis of dismissal thanks to the princess. Therefore, I am proposing we join hands to weather the storm.”

”Hmph, another villainous scheme, you scoundrel! Sir Shajar, there’s no need to heed the words of such a man.”

 ”──No.”

As he restrained his attendant, Shajar stared directly at McCutchen.

He would mourn his lost daughter later.

Right now, if there were moves to be made, he must act as one of the Twelve Divine Generals of the realm of Uru.

”Mr. McCutchen, I’m interested in that conversation of yours. Could you share more details at the nearby cabin?”
