Rising-Monk v3c125

Volume 3 Chapter 125 The Wandering Straight Punch II

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Since Kian can’t defeat Linca, Sarah must step in to face her. Kian will fight anyone but Linca.

The challenge is Linca’s unique ability:

’Penetration’ lets her pass through walls and pillars to attack, and her short-distance teleportation makes her movements unpredictable. If Sarah is held back by other warrior monks, Linca could seriously hurt Kian with a single strike, ending the battle instantly.

Kian has survived so far only because Linca held back. With Sarah’s arrival, Linca can no longer afford to show mercy.

──Kian must never get too close to Linca’s teleportation range.

That’s the key to avoiding defeat.

Kian and Sarah share a quick glance, their plan clear. The trust and teamwork from their past training have returned in just a few days.

Sarah releases a powerful burst of energy (ki) from her body, her feet glowing with the fastest ‘Leap’ ki seen so far.

 ”――――.”

 ”Hmm…”

 ”――――!”

 She’s incredibly fast.

 Just plain fast.

Her natural speed in using energy (ki) is unmatched. She claims no one can outpace her in technique activation.

True to her words, Sarah pushes off the stone floor with a speed that even surprises Linca, who reacts second-fastest.

 Wind rushes by.

The stone floor cracks as Sarah dashes forward.

In the next moment, she appears before Linca, swiftly swinging her shiny mithril curved sword.

 ”――――.”

 A sharp metallic clang echoes.

Sparks fly in the dim light, and Linca’s face tightens. Sarah is unbelievably fast, but Linca is no slouch either.

She quickly draws her Shamshir mid-air, barely blocking Sarah’s curved sword with both hands.

Sarah, with wide-open eyes, looked down on Linca from close by. She tried to overpower Linca by using her arm strength. The fight ended in a flash as Linca was knocked back, flying toward the hallway as she released her force. Judging by that force, it seems Linca jumped herself. Otherwise, she would have been hit hard by Sarah’s strike, so it was a good move.

Sarah, who easily kept Linca away from the courtyard, quickly turned her back to Kian and chased after Linca, who was wrapped in ‘Leap’. She didn’t look back at the girl with the strange eye who was standing next to her. The girl’s figure vanished like mist, and her presence disappeared toward the hallway. It was two against one. The one in charge of the enemy always puts their followers in a place where they have more people than the other side.

(So, does that mean my opponent is all the rest of them?)

Kian watched the warrior monks hiding in the dark of the courtyard, looking for a chance to attack.

Suddenly, a dark object was thrown from a place he couldn’t see, but because of the effect of Windsong Blade, its path bent in an odd way halfway, and it hit the stone floor far to the side of Kian with a high-pitched sound.

Kian could feel that several people were surprised.

(20, 21… No, too many to count.)

A warrior monk attacked from behind, but Kian blocked his curved sword by holding up Windsong Blade. The dark object was thrown at just the right time, but it was also stopped automatically.

The dark object was stopped automatically, thrown at just the right time.

Kian moved out of the way and avoided the warrior monk’s forward thrust with Shamsheer. Then, using that force, he quickly moved behind the monk to his back, turning him into a shield.

The warrior monk, who was being used as a shield, turned to Kian from behind and tried to cut his throat with a hidden weapon in his robe’s arm as he turned around, but Kian dodged it with Mist Form. After turning into mist, he took three steps back very quickly, then cut with Windsong Blade. The sharp, flat cut aimed at the warrior monk’s neck went through as if by magic.

(‘Penetration’, huh. Can this guy also do that. But…)

Kian stabbed a disassembly knife into the thigh of the warrior monk who was focused on Windsong Blade.

 ”Ugh──”

 Blood splattered.

Kian vanished again, turning into mist.

(Unlike Linca, who can make her whole body go through things, this is an incomplete ‘Penetration’.)

It was the same with the bald-headed warrior monk he met at the graveyard. If he could always cover his whole body in ‘Penetration’ like Linca, there would be no need to draw his scimitar and attack.

His hands and feet would be enough.

The attack range might be smaller, but no matter how much longer the enemy’s range is compared to his range, it doesn’t matter because the attacks won’t hit. In fact, if you can get close, being able to hit fast with your bare hands in a shorter range would give you an advantage.

Linca doesn’t need equipment, so she only draws her shamshir when needed and chooses gear that’s good for ‘Penetration’, which shows a lot of her bare skin.

When these warrior monks, wearing monk robes that are good at stopping cuts and magic, tried to cut flesh with their shamshirs, it was like saying that they could only use an incomplete ‘Penetration’.

 ”Hmph.”

Kian froze the blood and flesh on the ground, stopping the warrior monks who were coming together from moving. As they got ready for ‘Penetration’, thinking an attack was coming, Kian looked at them and kicked a dry flower bed, running straight up a pillar in the courtyard.

Fighting them in the 50-meter-square courtyard would be stupid.

On flat ground, the side with more people has a clear advantage, and since they can see well, their ‘Penetration’ would be ready in time, making it hard for Kian’s attacks to finish the job.

So, the best plan is to lead them to a place with worse footing and visibility, making them fail at defense because of limited ‘Penetration’.

Kian jumped onto the roof of the old temple, ran up the gentle slope, and came out on the ridge.

Below, black shapes jumped one after another like crazy animals, kicking off pillars and following Kian closely.

 (This will do──.)

Kian saw a big hole that fell down when Sarah broke a teleportation formation to stop Barghest from running away, 30 meters ahead of the roof.

 (Now, how to fight)

Under the sky full of stars, Kian is surrounded again.

However, the roof of the temple, which seemed to have been a snowy area since long ago, has a slope that makes it hard to stand, and when you cross the ridge, it’s hard to see the surface of the other roof.

Unlike flat ground, being attacked at the same time from all directions and being stabbed over and over was thought to greatly lower the risk.

(Count the number and distance. Know the space)

 ”────”

As Kian quietly takes in the structure of the battlefield and the enemy positions in his mind, suddenly voices came from among the warrior monks around him.

 ”Kian Vahid. Our hope”

 ”As I imagined, a beautiful blade’s streak…”

”The illusion was real. You are indeed the strongest warrior monk.”

 ”……?”

 (What are these guys?)

Kian quickly looks at the warrior monks who are taking off their oni masks one after another.

They had different skin colors, eye colors, and hair colors, but all of them were staring at Kian with strong eyes──respect, admiration, joy, emotion, obsession, and──disappointment and hate.

Kian, who is very aware of the feelings that other people have toward him, felt a strange disgust from their heavy feelings.

 ”Kian Vahid. We meet again.”

 Ahead.
