Volume 3 Chapter 143 Merchant City Ramsey I

Considering the progress of the quest, Kian couldn’t afford to stay down for long.

As the kettle whistled and Linca finished her tea, he stood with a heavy sigh.

The skies were clear above the fields, but Kian’s heart still lingered under dark clouds.

After dousing the campfire, the two of them made their way back to the road, setting off toward Ramsey.

”I wonder if I’ll be able to handle ‘Blast’ and ‘Thread’ properly in the next few days,” Kian muttered.

”We’ll just have to do it,” Linca replied, watching him absentmindedly juggle a few stones before grabbing a branch along the path.

The softness between them from earlier had faded. Now, her attention was fully on how Kian managed his energy.

”Was Sarah wrong about how I’m setting the training goals? Do I really start with ‘Blast’ and ‘Thread’ for warrior monks right away?”

”You mean turning the locals into warrior monks overnight?” Linca scoffed lightly. “Not gonna happen. ‘Shot’ training starts with juggling. But before that, they need to master ‘Impact’ and ‘Leap.’ A beginner’s ‘Shot’ doesn’t have enough power to be lethal.”

”I thought ‘Shot’ was only useful for pestering enemies anyway.”

”That’s a common misunderstanding. If used right, ‘Shot’ can kill in one hit. But most people jump straight to ‘Blast’ or ‘Thread’ because they’re flashier and stronger.”

 ”‘Thread’ really does feel special.”

Linca nodded, placing a finger on her chin in thought.

”As for Ms. Sarah’s teaching style… I’m not sure it’s a good idea to have them blasting high-powered ‘Blast’ and wide-range ‘Thread’ spells every half-second.”

 ”Why not?”

”It builds bad habits,” she said simply.

Linca kicked a pebble up with her foot and caught it effortlessly in one hand. She casually flung it toward the field.

Midair, it exploded—rattling the leaves of a nearby shrub.

”The more you focus on speed and power, the more your technique falls apart. Even someone like you, Sir Kian, who has precise energy control—if you follow Ms. Sarah’s training to the letter, you might start slipping.”

”Yeah… ‘Thread’ needs you to read your opponent’s moves ahead of time. If you lose control over the activation, you’ll miss everything.”

”Exactly. Of course, focusing on speed and power from the start might give them greater strength in the long run. But…”

”If you can’t land a hit, it’s pointless,” Kian finished. “And in tight spaces, no matter how fast or strong you are, sloppy technique won’t cut it.”

”Right. That’s why I think we should start with the basics and build up.”

Kian asked, “Then why did Sarah skip the fundamentals?”

”To be honest… juggling’s boring. And teaching it is even worse. So I think she just wanted to start with the flashier stuff—’Blast’ and ‘Thread’—since they show better results in combat.”

 Kian raised an eyebrow.

”You think she skipped it for something that dumb? …Actually, with Sarah, that checks out.”

Linca chuckled and picked up two small stones.

”Anyway, once you can juggle three objects at once, that’s stage one cleared. After that, we move to boosting ‘Shot’s power. Get that down, and you’ll be able to take down enemies with ‘Shot’ alone.”

”How many stages are there in total?”

”Fifteen,” she said. “Even seasoned warrior monks rarely master all of them. But if you’ve built up enough to hold your own in a fight, you can move on even if you’ve got some holes in your training. It’s better to reinforce your strengths rather than chase perfection.”

 She continued, eyes calm.

”To reach the high levels, you’ll need solid basics in all four systems. Once you’ve got that, you can specialize—’Shot’ has a lot of variations, after all. That’s how you reach mastery.”

”I can already use the ‘Leap’ secret technique, even if I’m shaky on the fundamentals.”

 Kian tilted his head.

 Linca smiled faintly.

”That’s where you’re a bit weird, Sir Kian. Your ‘Leap’ system is insanely strong. Even secret techniques like ‘Pursuit of the Shadow’—which should require mastery of ‘Wall’ and complex energy skills—you brute-force through with raw strength. And it works. So I don’t think you need to stress over being a ‘perfect’ warrior monk.”

”So you’re saying I should just stick to ‘Leap’ and keep swinging Windsong Blade?”

That was exactly what Sarah had told him. He didn’t disagree with her… but something about it still left a bitter taste.

 Linca nodded.

”She said that to you too, huh? I think she’s right. With Windsong Blade, you can deal with long-range targets. If they get close, use ‘Silver Ice’ to freeze or burn them—throw off their movement. And if they push in, finish them with Misty Magic Sword. I’ve seen you do it in real battle. Not many swordsmen can take you down when you’re using both wind and mist swords.”

”Still… at some point, it stops feeling like Kian Vahid in me are fighting. It’s just Windsong Blade and Misty Magic Sword.”

Windsong Blade had top-tier power and rapid-fire speed.

Misty Magic Sword ignored armor entirely and extended its range with terrifying precision. A surprise kill with it could even take down skilled veterans like Shura or Linca—warriors who could normally read and react to attacks with ease.

It was a magic sword built to kill swordsmen in close combat.

Anyone wielding those two weapons would be strong.

Even if Kian vanished tomorrow, the swords alone would remain deadly.

If someone like Rean got his hands on them, it might be risky… but if a warrior like Natra, Sarah, or even Linca used them, they’d be even more dangerous than Kian himself.

”Are you… dissatisfied?” she asked quietly.

 ”Yeah,” he admitted.

”You have a magic sword. You should use it. Mastering one is part of becoming strong. Or… are you worried you’re nothing without it?”

”That’s not it,” Kian said. “I just want to be the one using the sword… not the other way around.”

Notes:

• Linca – Jibril’s favorite girl. High-ranking warrior monk woman from Shin, with strong abilities like ignoring attacks and poisons.

• Mag – The wolfwoman under Yelmar—the one who was caught by Kian’s group earlier.
