Volume 3 Chapter 20 Welcome To The Witch Dormitory! II
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”The former eldest son of the Vahid family…?”
Lucretia repeated the question with a furrowed brow.
Christy had shot back a reply that left her utterly bewildered.
She might have avoided trouble by denying it in a panic, but the stubborn witch with the ample chest standing next to Kian piled on more words.
”That’s right! So stop talking about him like he’s some stray cat!”
”L-Lord Kian, from that Vahid family… but the city’s herald said he’s merely a drifter.”
”Manon is hiding information. Those who know, know.”
”…Christy”
”What, Kian. I’m not about to let a guard who knows nothing look down on you, but I can’t let my witch colleagues and the intelligentsia do the same!”
”Ms. Lucretia wasn’t looking down on me. She was just treating me objectively as a lower-rank adventurer.”
”That’s what I mean by looking down. You’re the first knight appointed by Manon. You’re a national hero who will be talked about for generations to come!”
(…I guess Christy just doesn’t understand politics)
’Heh heh heh. It’s only natural for the young to be swayed by emotions. Princess Maribel, who tries to kill her feelings and act rationally, is the abnormal one. It might be due to her upbringing, but that princess is unsettlingly mature for her age.’
(You’re always harsh on Maribel)
’Why can I be kind to my hated romantic rival who stole my knight?’
(Are you jealous?)
’Huh!? J-jealous!? I am not jealous! Do not get carried away! I simply like you as a possession, it does not mean I have any intention of falling for you!’
(Keep that up and wake up to your cuckold fetish, and my harem cuckold life will be set)
’Just admit that it’s different! Enough already! I’m going to sleep!’
(Goodnight, Talia)
’──! You idiot!’
The sulking ‘glasses’ presence disappears.
Meanwhile, in reality, Lucretia looks up at Kian with a puzzled expression.
”…Are you really the eldest son of the Vahid family?”
”Well, if you’re the Head Magician, it wouldn’t take long for that to come out. But Christy, it’s not right to blab about acquaintances’ or friends’ backgrounds to others. That should be common sense, don’t you think?”
”W-What do you mean I lack common sense…?”
”My background is something I need to keep under wraps. If people find out, I could be forced to quit being an Adventurer and might end up tied to the court as a diplomatic pawn, you know? That’s why I made sure to have my freedom as an Adventurer recognized when I became Her Excellency’s Knight.”
”Ah…”
”I hide information because there are inconvenient truths. On the flip side, I’m not worried about the info that I am a ‘Knight’ or that I’m an ‘Adventurer’ because it doesn’t cause any issues to share that publicly. I’d appreciate it if you could think things over carefully before speaking next time. I believe you can do it, Christy.”
”I-I’m sorry…”
”Christina, there’s no need to apologize to him. It’s the right thing to share that information with me as the Head Magician. ──Lord Kian.”
Lucretia’s ‘glasses’ glint as she adopts a stern expression.
”Yes.”
”If you are truly the eldest son of the Vahid family, I can’t let you remain an Adventurer. At the very least, you need to be tied down to this Izerland fortress.”
Christy’s complexion changes drastically.
Her face reflects she has completely messed up.
”L-Lucretia, this isn’t what it looks like. Um, um…”
”Ms. Lucretia.”
Kian places a hand on Christy’s shoulder and steps forward.
Facing Lucretia, who looks up challengingly, Kian wears a gentle smile behind his ‘glasses.’
”If you dig around, you’ll find out that I was kicked out of my house by my father 15 years ago. I wasn’t deemed worthy as a warrior monk, my talents and spirit lacking. The elders at home thought I was a liability and decided to show me the door. I wasn’t exactly a popular guy, and no one under me tried to keep me around. They were actually happy to see me go, whispering behind my back that it was for the best. As a rival for the current head, Jibril, I’m just not up to snuff. And I have no desire to steal the leadership position from my brother. I’m just not a strong card to play in diplomacy.”
”That’s our call to make. If you’re useful, we’ll find you a suitable position. But we’d prefer if you gave up being an adventurer. To just disappear into a dungeon and die would be a waste of your potential.”
”When Her Excellency recovers, I’ll request a fair discussion. Until then, please keep my situation under wraps.”
”Of course. It’s not like we’re spreading rumors. But I will let Mankovitch and the Herald know.”
”Understood. Those 2 already know my background, so there’s no issue.”
Maribel, Mankovitch, and the others had acknowledged Kian’s freedom.
With them involved in the discussion, it would be easy enough to overrule the weakened Head Magician’s objections.
There was no longer any need to risk drawing the attention of the other witches by stripping Lucretia of her free will.
”Kian, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to do that.”
”I’m not angry. Just be more careful from now on. If you carelessly reveal information about Her Excellency or the inner workings of the fortress, you’ll be in serious trouble. Your head could literally roll. But if you want to be my personal magician, that’s a different story.”
”Lord Kian, are you planning on taking my subordinates?”
”Not a chance.”
”Christina is a valuable asset to us. Her Excellency understands her well, she can teleport, and she’s also an expert in herbology. Around here, she’s not just some run-of-the-mill head magician.”
Lucretia’s expression was serious.
In truth, a head magician as reliable as Maribel, who is completely trustworthy and has no hidden agendas, is a very useful asset to have on your side.
Christy may think my work is just busywork, but taking care of Friedrich’s correspondence, Maribel’s health, and her wardrobe are tasks that absolutely can’t be entrusted to anyone else.
At the very least, if Kian were to have Maribel as his charge, he’d choose Christy over former head magician Natasha as someone to keep close by.
That remains true even if Natasha were a more skilled magician than Christy.
Lucretia added finally in a quiet voice.
”Besides…she listens to me too. …My, friend…Certainly, she has some shortcomings…”
”Huh? Wait, I was your friend this whole time!?”
”Eh!?!?!”
”Seems Christy didn’t quite see it that way, huh?”
”W-Was that… not how it was…?”
”W-Wait! N-No! That’s not what I meant!”
Christy waved her arms nervously and looked back at Lucretia.
”Me, a friend…? Me, a pathetic wretch like me?”
”…I meant it that way. And about you being a pathetic wretch… Christina, you don’t have to put yourself down. I don’t dislike your straightforwardness. I do think you have some flaws, though.”
”────!”
The black-haired witch’s face lit up.
Her eyes were a little moist.
Lucretia, on the other hand, seemed a little embarrassed, her cheeks were slightly flushed.
It was a heartwarming sight to behold.
As Kian, who was wearing glasses, he felt like he wanted to have these two busty witches kneeling before him and sucking his dick.
(After all, the busty witch is the best. One day, I’d love to train them so well they’d be fighting over my cock.)
’May the heavens strike this man down.’
(You’re still awake, Talia.)
’Hmph.’
”B-But anyway…”
Lucretia pushed up the bridge of her glasses and looked up at Kian.
”We’ll discuss the curse placed upon Her Excellency with everyone again tomorrow. However… for now, it seems unavoidable for Lord Kian to undergo indecent treatment. If Oswald fails, it appears we have no reliable experts due to financial issues. Perhaps Ms. Priscilla might know something.”
”Priscilla… Isn’t she the daughter of Lord Renaud?”
”Yes, Lord Kian. She is our senior. A very intelligent individual, she might know something about Her Excellency’s curse.”
”Didn’t Priscilla come today?”
Christy tilted her head slightly.
Lucretia crossed her arms in response.
”Yes. But like Lord Kian, she is also a last resort. Think about it. Before being a member of the Female Magician Association, she is Lord Renaud’s daughter and the head magician of Châtillon.”
”Oh, I see.”
”She can be unpredictable, and it’s not wise to rely on her too easily. Informing her of Her Excellency’s condition would expose our weaknesses to Châtillon.”
”Ms. Priscilla seems like a rather unpredictable person, doesn’t she?”
When Kian interjected, Christy immediately replied, “Well, she’s really a great person,” while Lucretia made a sour face.
”I… have a hard time with her because I’m always ridiculed. I respect her, as she is a clever witch.”
