Volume 3 Chapter 39 Short Break

”But someone with a personality like mine is very convenient for a witch, wouldn’t you agree?”

Because of that, he had been used and stepped on by women until he met ‘glasses’.

He’s learned from his failures, at least now.

Kian let out a dry laugh, and Priscilla plastered a smile on her face, though her eyes didn’t follow suit.

That’s right, it’s convenient. If I fell for you, I bet you’d end up becoming my Knight.”

”Lady Priscilla, if you’re trying to manipulate my master, even you—”

”A wife who doesn’t make convenient use of her husband is a rare one. If I may say so, it’s not just convenience. I’m a woman, you know. I dream of a prince who showers me with love. And personally, I think a touch of shadow is a bonus.”

 ”Shadow?”

”With all due respect, he seems to carry one.”

’Hmm. He usually only says stuff like ‘boobs’ and other silly things, but he does have a shadow to him.’

(That’s coming from my other personality, right…)

”I understand Sir Kian’s feelings. I lack the knowledge on magical matters, so please ask Rufna later. But separately, one last thing…”

Natra brought the conversation back forcefully, and asked quietly.

”Sir Kian, do you intend to fulfill Lady’s last wish?”

”Wouldn’t her soul be summoned to Azrael’s realm if I fulfill it and she finds peace?”

”Ah, about that, Lord Kian, when performing the ritual to extract her self-awareness and memories, we need to separate her from the ghost’s interference. Pulling something stuck together forcefully will turn her into a vegetable. So we need to let it naturally detach…”

 ”That means…?”

 Priscilla nodded.

”To grant her wish and satisfy her, the soul will begin to detach from the physical body. At that moment, we need to capture the soul, pull it back to the body, and anchor it. This way, we won’t harm Sarah Nakash’s consciousness. Of course, we’ll also need to clean up any extraneous information from the wraith during the anchoring process. But to do this, you must fulfill Sarah Nakash’s wish──namely, you have to win the final duel.”

 ”――――.”

”So, by flipping the trait of a soul that departs in peace once fulfilled, you can naturally separate the wraith’s soul. Clever trick. But tell me, Sir Kian—do you really think you can defeat my sister?”

”If I can take my real body with me, I’ll be at full magic power and can also use vampire techniques, so I should manage somehow. However──this time is a replication of that moment. Sarah’s wish is for me to defeat her at that very point. I’ll likely be stripped of my additional powers when I enter her world.”

”Right. It doesn’t feel like there will be an opportunity for intimacy, and your magic power will probably start from scratch. Lord Kian, you’ve got to give it your all and win. Come on, if anyone can do it, it’s you, who was able to overcome Father.”

”But can I really inflict any damage on Sarah…?”

”If she deploys ‘Wall,’ I fear that might be game over right then and there.”

”Moreover, it seems she was capable of using her Secret Technique, ‘Thunder,’ at that time.”

Last time, when Natra used it against him, he was utterly helpless. Now, he has to deal with ‘Thunder’ while he’s still in his immature, childhood form.

If she doesn’t use her Secret Technique, then there’s nothing to worry about, but she showed no hesitation when she unleashed ‘Thunder’ to take down Abbas’s 2 subordinates.

There’s no guarantee she’ll spare him.

In fact, it’s better to assume she’ll use it right from the start.

Seeing her master stiffen, Natra furrowed her brow.

”I can’t say precisely what Sir Kian’s combat abilities were back then, but without drawing on my magic power, it seems like there’d be no chance of victory at all.”

”But I can’t exactly ask Sarah, who’s looking to duel in the arena, to ‘let me win just this once,’ can I? She’d cut me down without a word, wouldn’t she?”

”I wonder how skilled big sister was?”

”As far as I can confirm, she could use Nakash’s ultimate technique.”

Kian glanced over at Priscilla as he answered.

Natra seemed to immediately grasp that ‘Nakash’s ultimate technique’ referred to the Secret Technique ‘Thunder.’

She opened her eyes wide for a moment before speaking nonchalantly.

”My, my… As expected of big sister. Could it be that she surpasses Sir Kian as a warrior monk now?”

 ”Stop, it’s too sad.”

’What’s with the worrying. Before leaping into Lady Sarah’s world, couldn’t you just pour a bit of magic power into this one? My magic sword has 7 blades, but I’ll lend you the one with the most firepower. It’ll turn anyone into mincemeat, regardless of their strength.’

(But then Sarah couldn’t achieve enlightenment, could she?)

What Sarah wished for was to see a future where, on the day Kian was exiled, a miracle occurred and he won.

If the conditions at the start of the battle weren’t made to resemble that time, Sarah would tilt her head and murmur, “Something feels off,” while being erased by the magic sword.

In fact, using the ‘glasses’ magic sword felt like it could shatter her soul along with the world of her memories, and it was terrifying.

If it had the power to bounce back Oswald’s sword, then it must possess the might to collapse the Night of the Owl.

To save Sarah, she had to be defeated while still in the form of young Kian.

The “glasses” magic sword was on hold for now.

If it really came to it, they could try using it then──

Just as he thought that, he suddenly noticed the surroundings growing dim.

Looking up, even the sky peeking through the gap in the cliff had turned a deep red.

Due to his vampiric nature, he hadn’t noticed, but it seemed that evening had already arrived.

Near the riverbank, the sunlight couldn’t penetrate, and night had completely settled in.

”It seems I’ve been immersed in the ghostly world for quite a long time.”

 ”Right, it’s already evening.”

”Lord Kian, you might’ve forgotten with everything going on, but tomorrow night you’re expected to dress as a gladiator and put on a show for the guests. If you’re planning to shop for decorations in the entertainment district, you should probably wrap things up soon—especially with your meeting time with Mr. Abbas coming up.”

 ”I suppose so.”

”If it’s certain you’ll be fighting against my sister, it might be better to take some measures during the day. With Sir Kian’s strength diminished, it would be impossible to face a formidable opponent head-on.”

”Yeah, Abbas was manageable, but Sarah, your sister… she’s a different league entirely.”

”We should hasten to resolve this matter as best we can. The worst scenario would be Lord Guy hiring another expert while we stand idle. If that happens, rescuing my sister will become nearly impossible.”

”Right. We absolutely want to avoid any clashes with other parties. Getting into a fight with a party of advanced rank or higher would bring us nothing but trouble. We need to settle things amongst ourselves before Sarah’s true identity is revealed.”

With that, Kian slapped his knee and stood up.

He took the backpack from Natra.

”Let’s head back for now. After that, we’ll purify ourselves and head over to the entertainment district.”

”In that case, I’ll drop you off and then go to the Adventurer Guild to make sure no adventurers are allowed around here. After that, I’ll change clothes and join you. Wait for me at the base while munching on something.”

”Where’s the meeting with Abbas and Demete going to be?”

”I’ll show you after shopping. It’ll probably be at some casino.”

As Priscilla said this, she pulled a card from her pocket and tossed it into the air.

Each of the countless cards was adorned with intricate designs.

The cards, like migratory birds, spread out overhead and then vanished into the depths of the forest.

”I’ve put up a barrier around the ‘Night Crier’s’ Otherworld. It’s a makeshift one, but it should keep ordinary people out.”

Priscilla explained, then immediately began creating a teleportation gate.

They would jump through the gate to the village where the carriage was waiting at the foot of the mountain.

”To beat Sarah without any enhancements, huh? If I could do that, I wouldn’t have been exiled in the first place.”

”The fact that you can only bring knowledge and techniques into the Otherworld is a tough restriction. It’s not the kind of thing you can fix with training. First, we need to figure out how Sir Kian can land a hit on my sister with his initial magic power. Just swinging a wooden sword at her will only get it deflected by her ‘Wall,’ after all.”

”What a coincidence. That’s exactly what I’ve been racking my brain about.”

While the two were pondering, the gate was completed.

Kian and Natra jumped into it, bringing a temporary end to their long adventure in the fishing village.
