Volume 3 Chapter 51 Quest: Warrior Monk Performance III

They just noticed that they were fully armed soldiers, clad in tight-fitting silver armor.
This evening, even with just 4 of them, it seemed they feared a swordsman’s rebellion.
The guards were lining up, holding spare spears and wooden swords.
If their weapons broke, it seemed they could ask for replacements.
’Are you alright, you?’
(I was a little taken aback. So this is an official gladiatorial match… It felt like a long time since I was on display like this.)
Apart from Sarah’s world, the last time he fought like this might have been his duel with Renaud.
With Oswald, Natra was there, and it was just an exhibition match, after all.
The tension was different.
(This is a valuable experience too. —Alright, time to get in the zone.)
”Heh heh heh…! Yo!”
”――――.”
Turning toward the voice, Kian shifted his body to face the center of the arena. Illuminated by the flames of the torches, he saw his opponent standing about fifteen meters ahead—a massive man wielding a dull-colored, gleaming greatsword.
With his left hand at the hilt’s end and his right near the blade’s edge, he pulled back his elbow as if drawing a bow, pointing the tip of the Gallowglass towards Kian.
It was a stance ready for both thrusting and horizontal slashes.
He felt a very aggressive intent.
Kian knelt down, grabbing a handful of sand and rubbing it slowly between his hands.
The weight of his curved sword, falchion, on his hip was reassuring.
He hadn’t used a proper weapon in a while, and it made him excited.
”No starting signal here. It’s already begun.”
”――――.”
Kian’s hand grasped the falchion’s sheath, and with a smooth motion, he drew the silver blade.
”Hehehehe… Haahhaa!”
The bald man’s eyes snapped wide open.
Just as his mouth seemed to start laughing wildly, in the next instant, his arms and legs swelled with muscles creaking and groaning, transforming him into a giant peering down at Kian.
(Western swordsmen’s physical enhancement. Their ki energy trains at an incredibly fast rate. They must have done considerable training.)
”I haven’t caught your name yet, have I?”
”Kian. We were introduced at the last night gathering.”
”Oh, right. I can’t be bothered to remember every little thing, y’know.”
The man, as big as a bear, held the Gallowglass in a thrusting stance and slowly began to jump.
After bouncing 3 times, he built up momentum and dashed towards Kian with light steps.
”――――.”
Kian narrowed his eyes.
He positioned the falchion, standing it up next to his right ear.
He wouldn’t use vampire techniques.
He would only counter with sword skills.
The giant man rushed towards Kian, covering 5 meters quickly, and then, for the remaining ten, he widened his stride and leaped sideways, drawing a triangle and slipping out of sight.
Kian tracked the movement with ease, but for someone untrained, their reaction would surely be fatally slow.
”Ryaah!”
The bald man’s body leaped high.
Soaring through the air, he thrust the massive greatsword──over 170 centimeters long──right for Kian’s shoulder and heart.
Kian twisted away to dodge it.
The man landed, kicking up dust as he pursued.
He stepped in with a sweeping slash.
With a whoosh, the Gallowglass approached with a terrifying sound.
”――――.”
He didn’t leap.
From behind the swirling dust, Kian accurately read the range of the giant’s greatsword attack.
Wrapping ‘Leap’ around his legs, he quickly stepped back.
His black hair swayed.
A chime rang out.
The dull sword tip was right in front of him.
But it didn’t hit.
(……Hehe)
The corners of his mouth curled slightly.
This searing hot moment of ‘Leap.’
The feeling of death brushing past his body.
It was irresistibly precious.
”Yah!”
The bald man’s sword slashed just inches away, and feeling the leftover breeze on his cheek, Kian made a swift charge.
”……!?”
His face showed shock.
For him, it must have been a total mystery what had happened.
Just as he swung his sword, the Azraelian warrior monk had slipped past the blade and stepped in front of him.
No one could follow that with their eyes at first sight.
There was no way for precise judgment to keep up.
”…!”
But he was also a seasoned warrior.
The giant had used the momentum from swinging his sword back to leap diagonally backward at that moment.
With a beast-like 6th sense, he executed an excellent evasive maneuver.
Normally, one would have ample time to escape before a sword could split their belly open.
(But this time, the opponent was just too skilled.)
”Huh…?”
After leaping backwards, the large man likely felt a searing pain in his abdomen, unable to ready his greatsword again, he stabbed its point into the sand and dropped to his knees.
He spat out a chunk of blood, clutching his stomach.
His abdomen was torn open horizontally, bright red blood spurting out in thick globs.
A fatal wound.
Kian walked briskly towards the man, swishing the blood off his blade.
”Anything you want to say before you go?”
”Heh… heh… you, you’re good.”
”Thank you. Anything else?”
”……”
The man spat blood instead of words.
Shouts and cheers could be heard overhead.
Kill him, kill him, kill him──.
(I’m not a thrill killer, though.)
There was no reason to keep this man alive.
It would be better to end his agony quickly.
As Kian passed by the groaning, collapsing man, he casually swung his Falchion.
”────”
The man’s head hit the ground.
Bright red blood sprayed up like a fountain.
The cheering wouldn’t stop.
Kian leaped away from the scene to avoid the splatter, weaving past the guards who had come to collect the body, and returned to his quarters.
