Rising Monk V3c58-2

Volume 3 Chapter 58 Situation Explanation II

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”Where to go… Where to go, huh…”

 Sarah frowned.

The beautiful woman, who looked more mature after losing her cheeky side, smiled wryly with wrinkles forming around her eyes.

”If what you say is true, and Nakash is gone, then I have nowhere to go. But if my family is in trouble with bandits, or if Mother has escaped to the East, then I have to do something to bring everyone back together. …Since Father, Almeisa, and Natra are dead, I’m the only one who can do it now.”

”I’ll support you. Look, I have Gold Coins here. It’s my pocket money, but I have no use for it since my hobby is training.”

”I can’t take it. That’s Kian’s money that he worked hard for over 15 years, right? I can’t give you anything in return. You’d just lose your money.”

”Just take it! Money doesn’t matter!”

A voice filled with frustration came out, surprising even Kian.

He stood up from the rock he had been sitting on without realizing it.

Kian felt Sarah’s eyes widen, and his cheeks burned bright red.

”This is… this is extra money. I can earn more whenever I want.”

”Huh, but Kian, you’re a Lower-rank Adventurer, right?”

”Ms. Sarah, I understand your concern, but Lord Kian is incredibly strong for a Lower-rank Adventurer, and he has a lot of money. He’s even been knighted and knows many nobles.”

 ”Huh…!? K-Knight!? From where?”

”Izerland. He was knighted by Princess Maribel. Just because he was knighted doesn’t mean he’s her subordinate, though.”

”Oh, I see. So that’s why you’ve been calling him Lord Kian.”

 ”That’s right.”

”No way… Is this a dream?”

Sarah wiped her eyes with her sleeve and stared at Kian.

It hurt a little, but Kian understood that Sarah couldn’t help but think it was a bad joke given her situation.

 Priscilla continued.

”Many people want to fall in love with his arms and make him their pet. For example, my big brother, or the former Knights of the Sun, Lord Oswald, or Lady Eleonora of Sunlightland. It’s almost funny that he’s still doing such a crazy job as an Adventurer.”

”It was just explained that the rebellion was suppressed, but that man… Oswald is still alive.”

”Yeah, he’s alive. Lord Kian didn’t kill him.”

 ”Huh?”

”You sound like you wish he had been killed.”

Kian also had thoughts about sparing Oswald’s life.

Ultimately, he left the decision to Maribel, but he wondered if not stopping Owl’s attack was a better future.

His knights might have fought fiercely, resulting in a bloody civil war, but at least it would mean the most powerful and dangerous man disappearing from the world.

”Could it be that Kian was the one who defeated Oswald?”

”It was me, Natra, and Rufna. Plus, some support from Lord Owl. If I had been alone, I would have been killed without a fight.”

’It’s also thanks to this one!’

(Yeah, I’m grateful for that aspect, ‘glasses’.)

’Grateful for that aspect? You should be more grateful for all this one’s support, you ingrate!’

”Three of you took down Oswald… But with Natra and Rufna, well. No, it wasn’t such an easy task. How did you manage to neutralize him…?”

Sarah’s expression turned as if she had been caught by a fox.

She looked again at Kian’s physique and magic power──her expression grew even more puzzled.

”I understand your disbelief. But this is reality.”

”Y-yeah… It seems so… But it looks like it’ll take time to accept it.

”Take it slow. Anyway, we’ll go down the mountain now so you can rest. You can’t have parasites living in the host body, so get a full checkup from Ms. Priscilla and the healer. Once you’re better, I’ll get a ship ready. If you want to go back to Azrael, you can go then.”

 ”Uh, about that…”

Sarah looked up, looking a bit nervous.

”I’m not going back to Azrael. No, I can’t go back like this.”

”Because you’re wanted there? …Sorry. I have work here too. My goal right now is to rise up as an Adventurer and become a noble… So I can’t go back to Azrael now. I can’t help you there.”

When he goes back, he’ll return with an army.

He has to make Umar and Demete suffer and die in despair.

It’s too soon to go home.

”Being wanted is one thing, but more than that, there’s no future for me there.”

 ”No future?”

 Kian asked, and Sarah nodded.

”If I go back and gather the kids who turned into bandits, then what? Even if I get, say, 20 Gold Coins from you, it’s not nearly enough to take care of them all. If we end up stealing food just to survive, it’s like asking the Lee family’s hunters to come and wipe us out.”

”Is there no other way besides becoming bandits? Like escaping abroad with your servants?”

”How many Gold Coins do you think that would take?”

”──If you need money, I can lend you some.”

”Sarah, you shouldn’t owe Ms. Priscilla too much.”

 ”Yes, you’re right.”

”That’s so mean! Don’t you trust me, Lord Kian? It’s thanks to me that Lady Sarah got saved!”

”Lord Guy told you to support me in anything needed to complete my quest. Yes, you helped, but you’re just doing your job, right?”

”I helped because it was Lord Kian!”

 ”Oh, is that so?”

 ”Yeah! You heartless jerk!”

”Hey you two, stop fighting like lovers!”

”D-Don’t call it love talk..! I-I’m not Lord Kian’s woman or anything!”

Ignoring the noisy white-haired Witch, Sarah looked serious, deep in thought.

But soon, she sighed and spoke.

”It’s no use. Even if I escape the country, I have to decide where to go. We need money, yes, but if we’re bringing everyone along, we must secure enough land for them…”

”Is it too dangerous to call your friends to Franz? Maybe gather here and start some business?”

”You mean buy land in the countryside of Franz?”

”Exactly. For example, east of East End, there are wild fields with wolves and monsters. We could buy and develop that land.”

 ”Hmm…”

”I think it’s better to stop that plan.”

”So you’re saying we should escape east, to the powerful land of Shin?”

 ”No, no, that’s not it.”

Priscilla cleared the empty Sage plate from the table, smiling as she continued.

”I don’t think gathering Nakash’s survivors in our own country is a good idea.”

”…Is that what the very person who offered to lend money says?”

”Don’t make such a scary face, Lady Sarah. I’m just saying I’ll help if you want to go back. But as a kind neighbor, I advise you──it’s safer not to return.”

 ”────”

”Think about it. When you gather Nakash’s survivors, can you really tell who truly belongs to your house? What if spies from other factions sneak in and you don’t notice?”

 ”That’s…”

”Among Nakash’s survivors, some might be blinded by money and switch sides, becoming spies. Especially the Lee family──they’re a thorn in your side, right? They might bribe Nakash’s former cook to poison you, Lady Sarah. Though, I don’t even know if your cook is still alive.”

”How dare you! Are you saying someone in my house would betray us for money?”
