”Ms. Natasha, what are you doing here?”
She was asked, but there was no answer.
The golden-haired witch, Rufna, had a sword pointed at her, yet she was still aiming for a counterattack in a flash, her eyes glaring at him.
”Ms. Natasha──”
”…!”
Kian’s words were cut off as she suddenly pointed her right hand towards the lake.
In the next instant, the moonlight reflected off the water, which shimmered silver, causing the surface to ripple violently.
From within, 5 slender, mantis-like monsters emerged.
It was the Sword-Cain that had appeared before.
Their signature blades were already out of their shells.
The monstrous creatures, evoking a sense of physiological disgust, leaped from the lake surface in an insect-like blur of speed, soaring several meters into the air and diving straight down towards Kian’s head.
”──”
He narrowed his eyes.
They had most likely come out in response to the blood of the 6 Sword-Cain that were lying dead by the lake’s edge.
There was no sense of magic being cast, but they had appeared to help Natasha in response to her call.
”Foolish!”
Seeing an opportunity, Natasha created a spear of earth with magic and attacked Rufna.
The Wolfman, reacting to his master’s voice, barked loudly and puffed up his already massive body.
Natra clenched her hand around the long sword.
”Stop!”
Retreating backward,
Kian glared at the descending Sword-Cain, who were swinging their blades, from under his glasses.
His black eyes flashed crimson like a reptile luring prey, and immediately, the Sword-Cain’s movements froze.
”Huh…?”
At the same time,
”Yah!”
”Ugh!”
Natra bisected the man who had transformed into a gigantic silver beast with her long sword.
”Hmph.”
Rufna effortlessly deflected Natasha’s magic with a single sweep of his right hand.
Three simultaneous attacks were nullified as if they were nothing.
”Urgh…”
It was all too one-sided.
Not even a fight.
Natasha’s proud golden hair was grabbed by Rufna, and she was pulled down into the mud stained red with the blood of Sword-Cain.
Despite this, she gritted her teeth and tried to resist somehow.
”Move, and I’ll kill you.”
”──────!”
The icy voice of Kian made her body stiffen in shock.
”If you raise your gaze, I’ll kill you. If you make an unnecessary sound, I’ll kill you. If you activate any magic, I’ll kill you.”
”…ah, um… ah…”
The witch seemed to be gasping for breath under the thick, murderous aura pressing down from above.
Kian, wearing glasses, showed no hesitation at all.
If she broke the rules, he would immediately break her body.
He could extract any needed information afterwards.
”Kyuuh, kuuuh…”
Behind them, a monster with silver fur, slashed down by Natra, let out a thin voice.
The bleeding was severe, but as a monster, it wouldn’t die easily.
”You will answer my questions, Ms. Natasha.”
”…uh, …uh…”
”Answer me.”
”Aghyaah, aaah!?”
”I see. Is that too much for you to do?”
”Yes, yes!”
As the woman nodded tearfully, Kian moved his foot away from the tip of her crushed pinky.
Her beautifully manicured nails were broken and a chaotic mess.
Kian returned to a polite tone and continued.
”What were you doing here?”
”I was gathering Bloodsucking Kinds!”
”For what purpose?”
”I don’t know!”
Natasha screamed.
”Please don’t kill me! I really don’t know anything! I was just hired and told what to do!”
”By whom?”
”I-I can’t say! If I do, I’ll be cursed by a magic scroll!”
”Hmm…”
If she wasn’t going to give up any information, it would have been fine to possess her with a Night Wraith and turn her into a servant, but having a woman like this under his command would just lead to trouble later.
Depending on the possessed personality, forcing information out of someone and then causing them to commit suicide could leave a strong curse on Kian.
Even with a body resistant to curses, it was not completely immune.
It seemed that some careful cleanup was needed to dispose of this excellent magician.
(Being a Head Magician is such a pain)
”Damn… It’s all your fault, Kian Vahid. Because of you, we Head Magicians are…”
”What about the other Head Magicians? I heard they all ran away except for one after Oswald was defeated.”
”I don’t know! How would I know! Everyone was desperate to escape… They probably hid in some countryside or left the country and ingratiated themselves with nobles in other countries, something like that!”
”So, Ms. Natasha, you’re one of them?”
”────”
”Ms. Natasha”
He called out to her and released her.
Night Wraiths leaped out of the backpack and swirled around Natasha, who was pinned in the mud.
One approached her and trailed its bony finger across her cheek.
”Hiding things from me isn’t a very wise choice, is it? You should know that, right?”
”Eek…”
”──Ah, ah. Wait a moment, guest. That person really doesn’t know anything.”
Suddenly, a man’s sharp voice echoed.
After a beat, the surface of the lake bubbled, and a second later, someone leaped out of the water with great force.
After flying almost 3 meters vertically from the water’s surface, he landed in an arc on the other side of where Kian and the others were standing.
The shadows did not stop at the first one; they sprang out of the water one after another.
In an instant, they were surrounded by a group of about 30 people.
Kian, still stepping on Natasha’s head, looked around.
Natra lowered herself toward Kian, pointing the tip of her long sword at the group.
The group that emerged was clad in tight-fitting black combat suits.
They were thin, but they seemed to be made of some special fiber.
They wore masks made of the same material.
Only the parts around the eyes, nose, and mouth were cut out in a round shape.
Those who appeared seemed to all have blue eyes.
”Wolfmen”
Rufna, who was carefully scanning the surroundings, whispered that.
In response, a man in combat gear from the center of the group roughly swiped away the water and removed his mask.
”Yo”
The man who greeted casually was handsome.
He had long silver hair and blue eyes, with a deep scar running across his cheek.
From his hair, triangular dog ears protruded.
