Volume 3 Chapter 60 Before Leaving Châtillon II
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Kian stood there, his silver armor swaying in the sea breeze, his eyes behind the glasses looking dull like dead fish.
Thanks to the merman blood in his body, he felt physically fine, but mentally, he was exhausted.
He had joked about Sarah and Natra being gorillas before, but he never thought he would crush a merman’s head like a gorilla or slam their arms and legs against rocks to kill them in such a wild way.
Even now, images of their soft brains splattering and their insides exploding swirled in his mind.
Now that he was back to reality, the memory of the smell mixed with those thoughts made him feel extremely uncomfortable.
(I hadn’t even collected any materials; I just wasted the lives of those mermen. There are studies that say they have social structures, so I hoped I wouldn’t get any strange curses from them…)
’If they attack, just eat them all.’
”――――.”
(That makes sense.)
’That’s right, that’s right.’
”Yeah, what was I worrying about?”
His useless thoughts came from being pulled by his public persona.
If he kept sulking while wearing glasses, there was no point in wearing them at all.
Kian quickly switched his thoughts and walked toward the guard standing in front of the drawbridge of the Main Castle.
”Good evening. I came to meet someone.”
”──Huh? Oh, it’s Lord Kian. Welcome! If it’s your party members, they are already waiting in the station over there.”
The guard pointed to a square building next to the drawbridge.
He sensed a shadow that looked like Sarah rising from inside.
”So the inspection is already over. I see, it’s evening now. I wonder if Ms. Priscilla has already gone home?”
”Yes, to the workshop. If you want to see her, I can send a bird now.”
”No, I shouldn’t take her free time. I’ll thank her next time. Thank you.”
”You’re welcome.”
”──Kian!”
He turned his face toward the cheerful soprano voice.
From the entrance of the white station, a beautiful brown-skinned woman with black hair walked toward him, her shoes making a rhythmic clack.
She was no longer wearing the noble outfit from the West that she had on when they broke up yesterday.
Instead, she wore a black jacket and black shorts.
White tights and black boots completed her look.
She was dressed in the light gear of a Western Adventurer, with belts and pockets.
She squinted at Kian’s new gear for just a moment, but quickly returned to a refined smile as if nothing had happened.
Kian smiled at Sarah as she approached.
”Sorry to keep you waiting.”
”No, it’s fine. ──Those are lovely glasses. They must have a charm of attraction on them.”
”I always want to be charming in front of you. If you feel even a little bit of manliness from me, I’m honored.”
”Oh my.”
Sarah twirled a strand of hair around her finger, blushing.
”Our relationship is in the past, right? What are you trying to do, tempting someone like me who’s a bit late to the game?”
”True. Setting marriage aside, I just want to enjoy the night for now. I want to know everything about you.”
”──Oh, is that so…? You’re being so forward, it’s a bit confusing. You’ve changed so much in 15 years from the serious person you used to be.”
”I changed for you.”
”──Wow, really? Thank you!”
’Her response became casual so quickly. Is this conversation failing?’
(No way, that can’t be true.)
Kian denied the glasses with a smile and naturally threw a question at Sarah.
”By the way, what about that outfit you’re wearing?”
”Oh, this? Hehe. Actually, while waiting for you, I asked that guard over there for advice and bought it.”
She said this and spun around.
The black shorts were very provocative.
He could see the curve of her backside when she turned, and it made him hard in an instant.
(The wind when she spun. Was it the air that touched Sarah? Alright, let’s take a whiff.)
”Suuuu.”
”I paid for it with the dagger I had and the dark items, plus I sold the broken ‘Venomous Blade’ to Ms. Priscilla.”
”I see. The ‘Venomous Blade’ is a key item that connects you to the Night Crier. You sold it because you needed money, but wasn’t that a bit careless?”
”They said they will carefully store the remains of the magic sword. I even got them to sign a contract.”
”Hmm, I see…”
While nodding, he squinted his eyes and stared at Sarah intensely.
Her waist was incredibly slim, and her rounded backside was well-defined.
The shorts she wore──those culottes──had some wrinkles at the lower front that looked especially erotic.
With her hair styled straight and long, exposing her forehead, she gave off an aura of a well-mannered young lady soldier.
Although it was a common tactic for a female warrior monk to present herself as a completely different person with her expressions, posture, and speech, Sarah now seemed more like her true self, close to her natural vibe.
She radiated a very healthy charm.
Sarah turned back to the guard, her lightly painted lips forming a smile.
”I asked him to take me to the armor shop. Thank you, um…”
”Zack. I’m Zack,” the guard replied, his face turning red. “Ms… *Soara*.”
The gatekeeper who attended to Kian blushed as he answered.
Soara──Sarah apparently introduced herself as that.
Only the influential in politics and business would recognize her face and name, but it seemed she wanted to be careful.
She paid attention to every little detail.
There was some question about whether it was okay for him to leave his post, but it looked like Sarah had been kind to him.
If that was the case, he should do something to show gratitude.
Kian took out his wallet.
”I’m sorry, my party member…”
”Oh, it’s fine! I just wanted to help Ms. Soara!”
”Is that so?”
”Yes!”
”I’m really impressed with how kind all the men in Châtillon are. Thank you so much, Mr. Zack. If I ever need anything else, I hope I can count on you?”
”Y-yes! It’s an honor!”
Sarah smiled softly, and the guard called out loudly while standing rigidly.
A guard in his forties, watching from behind, shrugged with a sigh, saying, “Good grief.”
Sarah turned her gaze away from the guard and returned to a serious expression as she looked up at Kian.
”I’m sorry, maybe I should have waited until you gave me my armor?”
”No, that’s not necessary.”
”Oh good. I’m glad to hear that.”
”You’ll need weapons too, so I’ll give you some money after this. I plan to stay in Châtillon for another 2 days starting tomorrow, so choose your weapons during that time. You won’t need to carve magic words into the blade, so it should be easy to get what you need.”
”Yes, thank you.”
”How did the exam go? You seem fine.”
”No issues. They said I’m very stable. I got all the nutrients I needed last night, and I’m feeling much better. ──Mr. Zack, goodbye.”
At the end of her sentence, Sarah waved to the guard.
The guard still had a goofy grin on his face.
He looked completely smitten by Sarah.
Kian also bowed his head to the guard and turned to walk away.
Sarah walked beside him.
She was smiling and looking ahead, but she timed it perfectly to turn and water Kian’s way.
”By the way, your gear looks really cool! It’s starting to feel like you’re not the Kian I know at all.”
