Volume 3 Chapter 67 The Magic Sword Returns, A New Arsenal
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The big man signaled, and the guards began to approach.
The lids of the 3 treasure chests were already open, revealing 2 similar magic swords and a shining silver bow resting on red cloth.
The magic sword was a sinister yet beautiful thing, changing color from dark green to deep purple from the hilt to the tip of the scabbard.
The sword, with thorns like brambles, curved gently.
It seemed more like a saber than a traditional sword.
”This is the thorn magic sword. Like Lord Blumer’s thorn blade, it is made from relics of the ‘Thorn Demon.’ However, the material given had a lot of demon’s factors. Terrifyingly, it still had living cells almost unharmed, which are used in the core. The right one is the main sword. The left is the shadow sword.”
Guy picked up the main thorn magic sword, grasped its distinctive hilt, and drew the blade from its sheath.
The blade of the magic sword was a poisonous wine red.
It gave off an aura as if blood might drip from the tip at any moment.
The big man swung the saber with a whoosh, holding the blade in front of his face.
”The magic sword strongly inherits the traits of the ‘Thorn Demon.’ There are 3 main traits: First, energy drain. It absorbs the life force of any target it cuts. Second, super regeneration ability. Since it remembers the shape of the demon cells, even if it is turned to ash by the sun’s magic sword, it can regenerate from the ground using magic power. Third, it can absorb magic power from the surroundings and convert it into high-temperature heat to unleash powerful magic. It can even clash with the Windsong Blade. You all can see which one is stronger.”
Guy sheathed the thorn magic sword and picked up the shadow sword, offering it to Kian.
”In front of this magic sword, spirit form is as good as powerless. Even someone with a physical body could be turned to ashes by a single strike of the magic sword. Be very careful when you use it. If you use the magic sword’s strike in Châtillon fortress, Adrian and Louis, who maintain order, will come with a thousand soldiers to bind you.”
”Thank you for the warning. I’ll keep it in mind. But… is it really alright to give such a strategic weapon to just an Adventurer?”
”You’re not just an Adventurer. You might become an excellent Knight who will defend the borderlands like me. That’s why I’m giving it to you. It’s an investment for the future. If you become a noble lord defending the border like me, I want to build a friendly relationship that maximizes our benefits. For example… if you were to govern the northern granary area when the lord is away, it would be helpful to have advantages like exporting grain to Châtillon. Of course, mutual non-aggression is the main premise.”
”I’m honored by your high opinion of me. I don’t know if I can rise to those heights, but if you need me as an Adventurer, just summon me and I’ll come running.”
”────. Lord Kian hasn’t heard anything yet, has he?”
”Huh?”
”Ah, no. I was about to fly to Izerland. Never mind.”
Guy smiled a bit and took a step back.
Kian, who had been frowning, was about to say something when the big man acting as the lord’s deputy picked up a silver bow.
”The last bow was the one you entrusted with the mirror artifact.”
The silver bow had a mirror attached in the center.
It seemed like the arrows had to be prepared by oneself as there were none included.
Overall, it looked similar to the one Aisha, Oswald’s lieutenant, had used, but this one seemed rounder and cuter.
”The ability to steal life force from what is reflected in the mirror remains the same, and it can be removed if needed. The bow is designed to shoot magical arrows made from the earth with a magic language. Will Lord Kian use the bow?”
”No. But this Tengu will use it.”
”Hmm, I see. It would have been easy to make a crossbow that needs no skill, but the power of magic bullets is a must in modern battles. If your familiar can use it, then we have no problem. This will help you as you aim to become an advanced-rank Adventurer.”
”Honestly, I never thought you could make something like this. I have no words to thank Sir Guy.”
”It’s fine, it’s fine. Lord Kian brought most of the materials. If you had just brought regular mithril or some monster materials, I could only have made something basic. I got my payment, and you completed the quest beautifully. I also enjoyed working with top-quality materials that I can’t usually handle as a blacksmith. Remembering the piled-up government work waiting for me later gives me a headache.”
”Lord Guy, please refrain from taking any more breaks.”
”Ah, I understand, I understand.”
Guy waved his hand at Blumer, looking annoyed, and turned to Kian.
”That’s it. I’ll include the mithril falchion you said you wanted and the maintenance tool set. The total for the falchion and the tool set comes to 40 Gold Coins.”
”That’s cheap!”
”Fool. That’s almost all your money. I said that to recover the Gold Coins I gave you.”
”Even so, for a mithril weapon, I think that’s not so expensive. Well, I don’t know much about the market for mithril swords.”
”I’ll let you have it for 30.”
Guy said this firmly and held out his hand.
”I won’t budge a single copper more, so pay up quickly.”
”…What can I really say to thank you?”
”Good. More importantly, if you run into any trouble again, I’ll be calling you, so be ready. Lord Kian, unlike Princess Maribel, I will give a proper reward for excellent work. No one will call the lord of Châtillon a stingy guy.”
”Yes.”
Nodding, he took out a bag of Gold Coins from his pocket.
Guy accepted it and handed it to Blumer.
Later, Natra and Rufna also bought sub-weapons.
It wasn’t forced, but they used money from the party funds to strengthen their weapons.
Natra bought a mithril-edged curved sword like Kian’s and a large dagger.
Rufna also bought a mithril dagger.
He thought the party’s funds would be completely drained, but it seemed Natra and Rufna had won quite a bit at the casino during their free time, and they used that gambling money to pay Guy.
Somehow, they were being sneaky about it.
Once all the transactions finished, the big man acting as the lord’s deputy turned back to Kian, smiling brightly and extending his hand for a handshake.
Kian immediately grasped the thick man’s hand in return.
”That was a good deal. Thank you, Lord Kian.”
”No, thank you as well. If there’s another chance, I’d appreciate it.”
”Yes. If another opportunity comes up, do visit my workshop──Châtillon. My sister Priscilla seemed to like you quite a bit. If Lord Kian has no objections, you’re welcome to join our family. I really mean that.”
”Lady Priscilla is not someone I can handle. Besides, with a charming woman like her, a better man will come along without rushing. Maybe noblemen or cardinals from the Royal Capital.”
”I wonder. I wouldn’t think the people of the Royal Capital are spineless, but I feel there’s no one suitable for Priscilla. Those living in the shadows of power struggles are fundamentally incompatible with our nature.”
”I see.”
”No pressure. Old man here would strongly oppose it, I’m sure. Well, just think about it when you feel like it.”
After saying that, Guy returned to Fhana’s side.
Natra and Rufna also came back behind Kian.
The acting lord nodded and embraced Fhana’s shoulder with a smile.
”Well then, Lord Kian. Until we meet again.”
* * *
Leaving the courtyard where Guy and the others were, the guard escorting them headed out through the main gate, which was heavily guarded, and up the slope toward the Main Castle.
The wide, open white slope led to a watchtower and Lord Blumer’s office tower.
Kian stepped to the middle of the road, then turned back to Natra and Rufna.
”Well,”
”Sir Kian, shall we place the Windsong Blade on your back?”
”No, I can manage on my own if I give you two the other magic swords I’m carrying.”
”Is that so?”
”I almost forgot, what with all the time that’s passed, but these weapons were made for you two. Speaking of which,”
Kian nodded, looking between the two of them.
”I trust both of you. Or rather, considering your achievements, I should have trusted you sooner. Giving familiars items weakens my control over them, speeding their independence, but I believe you two would never turn on me and try to kill me. This is a token of that trust. ──Natra, I give you the true magic sword of thorns.”
”Thank you. It seems I can serve Sir Kian even better now.”
Natra took the magic sword without hesitation.
She held the menacing weapon close to her chest as if it were precious, then looked up at Kian with a determined expression.
”I will never forget that you’ve bestowed this sword upon me, Natra. Please look forward to the results that will prove worthy of your trust.”
”You’ve been fighting with a crude iron sword until now. That magic sword should outperform even the high-quality arms an apostle wields. I’m counting on you.”
”Ha!”
”Next, Rufna. I’ll give you the shadow version of the bow and magic sword. It’s a weapon for you since you’d struggle in close combat with just a bow. Like the sister swords of thorns, I expect you and Natra to work together and serve me well.”
”Alrighty, I’ll happily take it. I’m sorry, Master, but I couldn’t deny the lack of ability in my arms before. Not just in close combat, but I really wanted some tool to help with magic calculations. This should let me handle complex magic and rituals too. Thanks♡”
Rufna said this with a light tone, then hugged him.
She shifted her mask and, instead of his cheek, planted a rather deep kiss on his lips.
It was daytime, and he was getting an erection, so he wished she wouldn’t show more affection than gratitude.
”With this, Rufna and you can handle most of the Quests, right?”
”Yeah, you can just lounge around at the back and nose around, Master.”
”I’m not here to have fun. As a warrior, I want to push my combat skills to the limit. My Adventurer Rank has reached 7, and from now on, I’ll be taking on high-difficulty Rank 5 quests. Alongside that, I’ll also take on personal requests to expand my connections. I’ll even take on lower-ranked requests without refusing, and clear them while spreading out my forces.”
”Yes.”
”Understood.”
The party had 5 members, including Sarah and Serena.
They could split into 2 or even 3 groups if needed.
By tackling multiple cases at the same time, they could rack up contribution points.
But for difficult requests, they would all pitch in without letting their guard down.
They needed to be thorough and efficient.
They had to make sure that acting separately wouldn’t break the bonds within the party.
It was all necessary for a quick rise to power.
Kian hoisted the Windsong Blade onto his back, and after strapping a mithril falchion to his waist, he lifted his head.
”Let’s go. Ms. Priscilla and Sarah are waiting for us outside the Main Castle.”
