Volume 3 Chapter 71 The R٭Pe That Wasn’t Over
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”When you were at the salon, I was surprised, but I felt better when I understood the situation. I was worried you were risking everything to challenge the Death Sword User.”
”It’s not that I didn’t want to see the Death Sword User’s face. Luckily, it seems he’s not here.”
”I think if you go to Ramsey, you can join the ‘Storm Herd’, but aren’t you going?”
”I don’t even know if the Mercenaries causing trouble are really the ‘Storm Herd’. Even if they are my father’s group, like I said before, I probably don’t have a place with them. I’ll take the Death Sword User’s head, and only then can I return to my father. I also want to repay Kian for the trouble I caused, so I will work with you for a while. If you say you don’t need me, then that changes things.”
”No, I definitely want you here. I’m counting on you not just for chores, but as a fighting force.”
”Kian is really kind. I want to learn that side of you too. Thank you.”
With that, Serena smiled gently.
”What are you planning to do for the rest of today?”
”Actually, if I’m interested, Eleonora said I could watch the Margrave’s Knight training. My turn to speak at the salon is done, and I thought I would just check out the facilities and enjoy a nice hot spring for the first time in a while. Will Master Kian join me?”
”Were you listening?”
”Of course, I was there. Honestly, it feels like you’ve become such a distant person since we first met.”
”I was surprised too when they gave me the title of Master Knight. I’m just a free Adventurer, and I don’t really need such a fancy title.”
”Her Excellency mentioned Dacia? Where is that? They talked about rights to develop and rule, but if you become a noble with land, your way of working as an Adventurer would definitely change a lot?”
Dacia is an uninhabited kingdom to the northeast, a vast expanse of plains and mountains with no towns or streets, no villages, and almost no people.
That’s why it’s a bit of a mess to talk about lords and nobles, or rights to develop and rule.
”So… you just have the rights? No obligations like governing or collecting taxes?”
”There aren’t any towns or villages to govern in the first place, and no people to tax.”
When Kian said this, Serena seemed relieved as she relaxed her shoulders.
”Then, we can keep living as adventurers…?”
”That seems to be the case.”
”I see. That’s good.”
Serena continued, tracing the ‘Silver Ice’ armor with her blue eyes.
”With such impressive armor, I thought you might be a general or something.”
”Unfortunately, I’m still a poor adventurer.”
”Poor? I heard a lot of money jingling when you ran.”
”Must be your imagination.”
”Don’t worry. I won’t make a shameless copy of that at this stage.”
She said that, but it didn’t look too good for Serena to fight with low-performance gear while Kian and Natra were equipped with magic swords, magic bows, and special spirit gear.
It might be better to get her new equipment once she’s contributed enough to the party.
(Come to think of it, Serena was learning magic from Aliona. Maybe I should present her with a staff.)
’Lady Serena seemed to have an aptitude for magic in the first place. It might be better for her to focus on magic rather than being a swordsman.’)
(Yeah, our party is currently 3 swordsmen and one rearguard. To avoid having too many vanguards and messing up the battle lines, it might be more stable to have her become a shaman. But then again, with each person’s abilities standing out, there’s no need to discuss balance…)
Kian──scout, close-range swordsman.
Natra──scout, close combat swordsman.
She can also act as a magician if needed.
With her Kitsune knowledge, her ability to solve problems using magic is quite high.
Rufna──scout, versatile warrior.
If she focuses on being the rearguard, she becomes the strongest.
As the former head Witch of Nakash, her problem-solving ability is outstanding.
To be honest, she’s at a level where just having her is enough.
Sarah──scout, close combat swordsman.
She studies magic at the monastery, making her excellent as a Head Magician.
She’s another one at a level where just having her is enough.
Honestly, given how strong the Nakash members are in battle, Serena’s role is expected to be in areas outside of combat──like her instincts as a Wolfman and her problem-solving ability as a magician in non-combat situations.
However, Natra and the others are generally versatile outside of combat too, so even if they split into 2 parties for a quest, they can handle things just fine.
If Serena were an expert like Christy, it would be a different story.
But being just an ‘average magician who can use magic’ like those in an intermediate-rank Adventurer party means there are hardly any situations where she is needed in Kian’s current party.
This leads to something he thought about before: there’s no problem if she just focuses on developing her close combat abilities to kill the Owl, without worrying about her role in the party.
(Conclusion: Serena can freely develop her abilities as she wants.)
’But, the Wolfman shaman is exceptionally skilled, you know? While adventuring, it might be fine to have just Rufna, but thinking ahead, Serena should be kept close as a magician and trained. A shaman who can accurately wipe out enemy forces from a distance with great firepower is a strong ally!’
(True. If I’m going to kill Father and my stepmother, I’ll definitely need her. And since my family will all be dead, I’d like to save Jibril and his servants too, so they’re not left alone…)
But, how Serena improves her skills is up to her.
She shouldn’t feel bad about Kian.
She should improve her abilities as she wants.
”Serena, we’ll talk about how to work together in the party later, but do you want to improve your skills as a swordsman or a magician right now?”
When Kian asked, Serena made a difficult face and pursed her lips.
”I don’t know… I don’t know what I can do in the party with Kian, and I know that my power isn’t enough to defeat the Death Sword User, but I don’t know how to get the skills to defeat them.”
”I see.”
”I think you won’t know until you actually move in the party, so let’s think about it later. I was always studying how to swing my sword in the group, but when I met Ms. Aliona and touched magic, the world changed completely.”
”Is that so?”
Kian tilted his head because he was a beginner at magic.
Serena nodded.
”Yeah.”
”I’m going to make the initial investment you need. Tell me if you want a staff. If you want to learn combat skills, ask Rufna. If you want to be taught by Natra, who is the same age as you, I’ll tell her, so just say the word. Of course, you can ask her directly.”
”Thank you. I’ll ask you without hesitation.”
”Tomorrow, we’ll leave here around noon and head to the Adventurer’s Guild. We’ll have lunch together and plan our future.”
”Okay. I’ll get ready in time.”
Kian nodded and raised his hand.
”I’m glad I could meet you here today. I’ve always wanted to make up.”
”Me too.”
”I’m sorry I r*ped you.”
”No.”
Serena shook her head.
Her silver tail behind her shorts also swayed.
”I bet my body on this.”
”Hearing you say that makes me feel better, even if I’m a criminal.”
”Hmm… huh? …yeah.”
Kian smiled refreshingly at the silver-haired girl who tilted her head seriously, then turned his back to her.
(Hmm…?)
’What’s wrong?’
Just when Kian was supposed to walk confidently towards the North Building, he suddenly stopped, and ‘glasses’ asked in a suspicious voice.
Kian did not answer right away; he sniffed the air.
Using his vampire sense of smell, he tried to check, but there was a subtle discomfort.
He took off his backpack and opened his mouth.
Digging around inside, he couldn’t find the little bottle that should have been there.
”Kian? What’s wrong?”
Serena peeked in from behind.
Kian quickly closed the top of his backpack, forcing a smile.
”Oh, it’s nothing.”
”…? Okay.”
He said goodbye to Serena again and turned his feet towards the North Building.
The discomfort only grew stronger.
(The strong aphrodisiac ‘Princess Killer’ I got from the Châtillon market is gone…? The smell is fading, and I didn’t feel the bottle earlier.)
Kian frowned as he resettled his backpack.
(Is it my mistake? Maybe when I flip the backpack later, it’ll be hiding in a corner or something.)
Well, it wasn’t something he needed, so it was not a big deal that it was gone.
Kian decided to forget about ‘Princess Killer’ with a light heart.
