Chapter 143 Himuro Yukiko ⑱

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 G-ROOOOARRR!

Before me stood a five-meter-tall behemoth of white fur, looming on two legs. It was a White Grizzly¹, a bear monster known for its extreme ferocity. A single swipe from its massive forepaws could level a centuries-old tree. It was a carnivorous nightmare that preyed on humans, Goblins, Orcs, and even Ogres.

The bear let out a deafening roar and lunged. Even with the treacherous, snow-clogged terrain, its “death blow” didn’t even graze me. I wasn’t about to be its punching bag just for the sake of politeness.

Had it connected, I’d have walked away with a few bruises, but it wouldn’t have been fatal.

Irritated by my constant dodging, the grizzly’s swings grew wide and sloppy. It was a dangerous beast to most, but to me, it was strictly small-time. I already knew its limits. As the bear reared back, exposing its vitals for one final, desperate strike, it froze.

I wasn’t about to ignore an opening like that. I lunged, driving my dragon-claw greatsword deep into its defenseless throat. The blade tore through, the tip erupting from the back of its neck. It was instant death. The White Grizzly slumped into the snow without even a death rattle.

Training Himuro Yukiko wasn’t my only job. During the day, I fulfilled my duties as a Monster Hunter, clearing out whatever the requests demanded.

The artificial blizzard had driven most monsters into hiding. I hadn’t seen a single humanoid like a Goblin or Orc since arriving in Wrathfiria² – they’d either frozen to death or were huddling in deep caves. The only things still moving were the animal types: White Grizzlies, Snow Wolves, and Raging Elks.

I hauled the grizzly into my Item Box³ and headed to the rendezvous point. Over a dozen hunters stood there, flanking a literal mountain of Snow Wolf carcasses – at least twenty of them. As soon as they spotted me, they snapped into a sharp military salute.

”Instructor! We have successfully culled the requested Snow Wolves!”

”I… I see. Good work,” I replied, a bit taken aback.

”Sir! It is all thanks to your expert guidance, Sir!” one of the representatives barked.

They were a far cry from the bunch of drunks I’d first met, but I couldn’t shake the feeling I’d overdone the discipline.

 ”Right. Keep at it.”

 ”SIR! YES, SIR!”

How did it come to this? It wasn’t just the grunts, either. Polilina, the Branch Leader, had undergone a total transformation. She looked like something out of a military drama, decked out in an imitation officer’s uniform. I’d given them too much confidence, and it turned out Polilina was a natural-born sadist just like me. Who could have guessed that a single night together would flip her personality like a switch?

I’d been avoiding her advances since then, claiming I was too busy with Himuro’s training. She was cute when she acted spoiled, but getting deeper into that mess felt dangerous.

Lil called her my “local wife,” which… well, she wasn’t entirely wrong.

 ”We’re back,” I called out.

 ”Papa, we’re home!” Lil chirped.

”Welcome back, Sieben,” Mihiro said. “You look like you had a decent haul.”

”Honored to be in your presence, Ma’am!” one of the hunters shouted at Mihiro.

Mihiro offered a pained, bitter smile. It was their own fault. While I was in an audience with the King, Mihiro had taken over training and forced the recruits to run three laps around the outer walls of Draguoth. Given the walls were five kilometers in diameter, that was a forty-seven-kilometer trek – longer than a marathon. I’d called Mihiro an idiot for it, but the results spoke for themselves. The hunters were now terrified of “Ma’am.”

”Lil, did you guys actually catch anything?” I asked. They were empty-handed, though I assumed Mihiro had stashed the loot.

 ”Of course, Papa! Right, Mihiro-sis?”

”Yeah. Check this out,” Mihiro said, reaching into the Item Box.

They hauled out a gargantuan, shaggy hide – a lump of flesh over ten meters long. The hunters gasped. It had massive tusks, giant ears, and a long trunk. A mammoth. Apparently, they weren’t extinct in this world. I remembered seeing a stuffed saber-toothed tiger at Georg’s place, too. This world was a sanctuary for prehistoric relics.

”And what did you bring?” Lil asked, looking at me.

”…Two White Grizzlies,” I said, pulling them out. Compared to their haul, mine felt a little pathetic.

”That is incredible, Instructor!” one hunter shouted, shaking his head. “One of those would have slaughtered our entire unit before you arrived!”

”You brought back another monster…” Leonardo muttered, his voice a mix of awe and exhaustion.

 ”Mass-wise, I’m the loser today,” I joked.

”Are you kidding? A White Grizzly is a death sentence. And you took two alone?”

We were at the main food warehouse. The Guild couldn’t process this much meat, so we were using the state storehouse. Polilina was there too, overseeing the intake.

”This is a godsend,” Leonardo continued. “Grizzly meat, wolf packs, and now a mammoth? We won’t starve this winter.”

The pelts would make perfect cold-weather gear, too. Livestock prices for cattle and goats were skyrocketing, but this haul would keep the city fed and the hunters’ pockets full. Polilina stepped forward, handing out the coin pouches with military precision.

”Listen up, you lot! Here is your pay. Now get some rest! Dismissed!”

”YES, MA’AM!” they roared in unison, marching out like a seasoned legion. Leonardo just stared.

”Those are the same ‘useless’ rejects from last month? They’re unrecognizable.”

”I might have pushed them a little hard,” I admitted.

”Better than letting them rot,” Polilina said with a sharp, hungry smile. She turned to me. “So, Sieben… about tonight…”

 ”I’m busy.”

Her face fell. My “business” was, of course, training Himuro.

”Come on, Sieben,” Mihiro teased. “You could at least throw her a bone for one night.”

”If you’re so worried, Mihiro, why don’t you handle her? She’s actually pretty submissive once you get her in bed.”

 Mihiro’s eyes went wide. “Uh, haha… I’ll pass. Besides, I’m a girl.”

”You’re packing a surprise between your legs, so why start acting modest now?”

”Wait! Polilina doesn’t need to know that!” Mihiro squealed.

”Know what?” Polilina asked, blinking. She seemed to buy the confusion, but Leonardo was looking at me with a newfound intensity.

”Sieben… are you saying that cute girl has… ‘extra hardware’?”

Leonardo took a long breath, then shook it off. “Anyway. Seeing as you can drop a grizzly without breaking a scratch, I have a formal request for you and your crew. We need your help to kill Hræsvelgr and the summoner behind it.”

I didn’t hesitate. “Count us in.”

 Summary:

Sieben successfully hunts two White Grizzlies while his team, led by Mihiro and Lil, brings in a massive mammoth. The previously incompetent Monster Hunters have been whipped into a disciplined military force by Mihiro’s brutal training. The chapter ends with Leonardo recruiting Sieben’s group for a high-stakes mission to defeat Hræsvelgr.

 —

 Trivia:

 - The blizzard in Wrathfiria is artificial, not natural.

 - Mihiro forced the hunters to run 47km, which is why they are so disciplined/terrified.

 - Polilina’s personality shift is a direct result of her s*xual encounter with Sieben.

 - Mammoths and saber-toothed tigers exist in this world as ‘ancient relics’ rather than common monsters.

 - Mihiro’s inters*x/futanari status is a secret from Polilina but known to Sieben and Leonardo

 Character Insight:

Sieben shows a tactical preference for avoiding personal drama (Polilina) in favor of his ‘objective’ (training Yukiko), yet he doesn’t hesitate to accept a dangerous combat request, showing his primary identity remains that of a warrior/hunter.

 —

 Behind the Scenes:

The author references ‘The Saga of Tanya the Evil’ through Polilina’s transformation into a ‘Little Girl Major’ figure. The closing note about F-eza (Freeza) and Son G-ku (Goku) is a joke about Dragon Ball Z power levels.
