Chapter 153 Himuro Yukiko ㉘

The story returns to the moment the confrontation began.

 ===

”Yo. Did you enjoy our little game of tag?” I asked.

 ”…Sieben, you bastard,” Suzuki spat.

Suzuki glared at me, then shifted his gaze to Himuro Yukiko, who was clinging to me, pressing her body against mine as if trying to merge with me.

He’d likely killed the King, been hunted by soldiers and Monster Hunters alike, fled into the woods, and finally reached this clearing only to see the one thing he couldn’t accept. That seemed to be the gist of it. In reality, I had lured him here, guiding his every panicked step toward this specific spot.

”Sieben, you fucking parasite… My Lady! Get away from that maggot this instant!” Suzuki screamed.

 ”Ehh… no way,” Yukiko replied.

”My Lady! You bastard, what did you do to her!?”

He asked what I “did,” and while the answer was “plenty,” there was no reason to indulge him. If anything, they were the ones who had been “doing” things to her. Yukiko wasn’t so helpless that she needed a nanny to handle her basic needs, despite how they’d treated her.

Suzuki’s face contorted as he ground his teeth, clearly incensed by my presence and Yukiko’s refusal to obey.

”My Lady! I’ve done everything for you! I’ve devoted my life to you! So why… why are you staying by that bottom-feeder’s side!?”

”Why? Because… I love him,” Yukiko said softly.

”My Lady! What could you possibly see in a guy like him!?”

”Hmm… I guess because of how good he makes me feel? You know, Suzuki, Sieben is really good at it. He makes me feel so incredible, over and over… it’s like my mind just melts away.”

”Wh-!? You actually… you laid your hands on her!? I won’t forgive you! I’ll never fucking forgive you!”

Suzuki drew his sword and lunged at me, but Yukiko stepped in front of me, spreading her arms wide to shield my body with her own.

”My Lady! Move! I can’t kill him with you there!”

 ”No,” Yukiko said firmly.

”My Lady! This… this parasite is just using you!”

”Parasite? Maggot? Is that the only vocabulary you have?” I asked. “If we’re calling people names, then you and Sato are nothing more than the dust clinging to Yukiko’s heels.”

”D-dust…? You have the nerve to call us dust!?”

”You took advantage of her innocence to do whatever the hell you wanted to her, didn’t you?”

”We did not! Everything we did was for her sake-“

”…Disgusting,” Yukiko interrupted. “Suzuki, Sato… you’re both disgusting. I hated every second of it.”

 ”My Lady…”

Yukiko’s rejection seemed to land a finishing blow. Suzuki looked utterly crushed. Anyone would be depressed after being called repulsive by the girl they loved-well, except for a few specific types of freaks.

”Do you get it now? Suzuki, you’re just useless trash. And more importantly-how much longer do you plan on pretending you’re human?”

”What… what are you talking about?”

”Exactly what I said. Take a look at your hands. Don’t they look a little off to you? Here, I’ll even lend you a mirror.”

I pulled a full-length mirror from my Item Box and angled it toward him. Reflected in the glass was a blue-skinned, ox-headed monstrosity. A Gozu demon.

”What… is this…? This is me? This is me!?” Suzuki shrieked.

”Talk about losing your humanity. Kahahahaha!”

That’s right. Just like Yukiko, I’d turned these two into monsters via ‘Fallen’. I’d set the curse to trigger only after they left the castle, during the time I was searching for the missing Yukiko and ‘interrogated’ a certain maid. Of course, that maid was just me using Mimicry to look like Satomi.

”So, how does it feel? To become the very thing you used to hunt? Kahahahaha!”

 ”Agh! No! It’s a lie! It’s a goddamn lie!”

It was too much. I couldn’t stop laughing. This was the end for Suzuki. Instead of a Hero, the world would see him as nothing but a beast. A sub-human freak.

”This… this can’t… Wait, that thing in your hand…!?”

”Exactly what you think it is. Sato’s head.”

I smirked and tossed Sato’s severed head at Suzuki’s feet. It was a horse’s head now, the eyes wide with shock and lingering resentment. Sato had become a Mezu demon.

 ”No! You absolute monster!”

”Hey now, you’re the ones who aren’t human anymore,” I said. “Though, I’ll gladly admit I’m a monster.”

I’d become so accustomed to killing that I couldn’t call myself a good man. But you can’t exact vengeance without becoming a bit of a demon. And I wasn’t done. Besides, he should look in the mirror before calling me a murderer. They’d killed the King, after all.

”Even a piece of shit like you has one final use for Yukiko. Yukiko, drink.”

He was to be her nourishment. But Yukiko didn’t look thrilled.

 ”Mmm… he doesn’t look very tasty, though…”

”Now, now. If he can become part of you, I’m sure he’d consider it a privilege. Think of it as an act of charity.”

”Muu… if you say so, Sieben.”

Yukiko walked over to Suzuki, hugged him, and whispered, “Thanks for the meal.”

 ”My Lady, what are-!?”

She sank her teeth into his neck. If she had drained him dry and turned him into her Kin, there might have been a shred of salvation for him. But after only a few sips, she pulled away with a look of pure revulsion.

”Ugh… it’s gross. It’s grainy and it smells terrible. I can’t drink this. Sieben, I need a palate cleanser!”

”Wh-!?” Suzuki gasped, clutching his throat.

”Kahahahahaha! Look at that-you’re completely useless! Even your blood is trash. At least Sato had some utility. Also, Yukiko, rinse your mouth out before we do anything else.”

Apparently, Sato’s blood had been just as foul. The two of them were worth nothing-except for their Unique Skills.

”Ha… haha… I see. This isn’t My Lady. You’re just a maggot pretending to be her. Hahaha… yeah, that’s it.”

 His brain had finally snapped.

”You’re not her! You’re an impostor! DIE!”

Suzuki swung his sword at Yukiko in a fit of delusion.

 ”Tch… ‘Aegis’.”

 ”Gah!”

Instead of hitting her, Suzuki was the one who was cut. A deep gash ripped open from his left shoulder down to his hip. Being a monster saved him; a human would have died instantly from the reflected damage.

 ”Wh… what… that was his… Sato’s…”

”Bingo. Sato’s Unique Skill, ‘Aegis’. I Snatched it and gave it to Yukiko. It’s the perfect shield for her. As for your skill? I don’t really need it, but I’ll take it anyway.”

 ”Damn you… ‘Aias’!”

Suzuki deployed a seven-layered barrier, his final fortress. I gripped my two greatswords and faced him.

 ”Heh… kuku… Dual-wielding greatswords? You’re bluffing. You’ll never break my ‘Aias’!”

”You’re making a big mistake. You think just because I have my swords out, I can’t use magic? This isn’t a game, Suzuki.”

”Hmph! That sorcery from before won’t be enough!”

”You’re right. That wouldn’t be. But I’m returning the favor for that beating you gave me-with interest. Howl, Heaven’s Wrath-‘Keraunos’!”

With a blinding flash, a deafening roar shook the earth. Lightning coiled into a single point and blasted forward. Seven distinct cracks echoed through the clearing as the barriers shattered like glass.

”Wha… what the hell was that…?” Suzuki stood there, dazed.

”I guess I didn’t even need the swords.”

He charged at me in a fit of desperate rage, and I ruthlessly cut him down.

The chapter ends with Sieben cutting down the broken Suzuki.

 - The ‘Aegis’ skill Yukiko uses was originally Sato’s skill, stolen by Sieben.
