Seven-Sins-Avenger 202

Chapter 202 Yamato Hina and the Demon King Medinilla ⑨

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The trip was a blur of debauchery. Between the open orgies on the road, the voyeuristic rabbit-eared girl who ended up taking Yokoo-kun¹ by force, and the occasional detour to wipe out bandits using traveler rest-stops as dens of iniquity, we reached the Envyos territory without any real “accidents.”

By the way, since the bandit leader turned out to be a woman, I took a quick teleportation trip back to hand her over to Orcus. It’s the same in every country: criminals like bandits and thieves don’t have human rights. Once you catch them, they’re yours to do with as you please. I’m not hurting for cash, but Orcus is short on “playmates” right now, so it worked out. Even Orcus seemed to take a liking to her – though the fact that the female leader actually liked Orcus back was a bit of a curveball.

Unlike our time in Wrathfia, the towns and villages here weren’t buried under rubble. Once we hit Envyos territory, we took our time, stopping at every village to rest. I’d teleport back to flirt with Lil whenever I could. We didn’t actually “do it” – I didn’t want to risk the pregnancy – but it helped take the edge off the loneliness for both of us.

With all those detours, a trip that should have been a sprint turned into a crawl. Before I knew it, half a month had vanished since we set out.

* * *

 ”So, the next town is…”

”Viede,” Mihiro answered from the driver’s seat. “The second largest city in Envyos. Population’s around 120,000. It’s a huge hub for magic tool manufacturing – that’s basically their entire economy.”

Mihiro-san was handling the driving since they knew the roads and the local layout, having spent three months in Envyos already.

”Magic tools, huh? Maybe I’ll pick something up. Like an air conditioner.”

The scorching hellscape we endured before Wrathfia had been a nightmare. Things had cooled down since then, but a little climate control never hurt.

”Haha, tell me about it,” Mihiro-san grumbled with a pained smile. “That heat was brutal. It was so bad we had to call off the ‘nightly duties’ entirely.”

”Well, there’s plenty to see there. I doubt you’ll get bored.”

”Good. I’m looking forward to it.”

We were trading idle chatter like that right up until Viede came into view. Then I saw the smoke. Wait…

”Hey, Mihiro-san. Does Viede always have that much smoke hanging over it like that?”

”No… that’s not right. Something happened. We need to move!”

Before the words were even out, Mihiro-san slammed the accelerator, sending us roaring toward the city. I looked back and barked at Honoka-chan and the others to gear up and get ready for a fight.

As we drew closer, the scale of the disaster became undeniable. It wasn’t just smoke – fire was gutting the buildings. And the main gate? It had been smashed to splinters.

 ”Hurry! This is bad!”

”We’re coming up on the gate!”

”Don’t slow down! Plow through it!”

 ”Copy that!”

The Prydwen² was more than big enough to clear the gap. The doors were already half-wrecked anyway. I didn’t care about the damage – I’d deal with the bill later.

Like a scene out of an action movie, we smashed through the remaining timber, lurched into the city square, and screeched to a halt. I was out of the door before the tires stopped spinning.

The world was red. The dull red of the brick buildings was drowned out by the flickering orange-red of the fires and the sickening, wet red of fresh blood.

”What… what is this? This is horrible…”

Honoka-chan stood frozen, the words dying in her throat as she took in the slaughter.

”Ugh… blegh… what the hell? Why are there so many… so many dead-na?”

 ”Urgh… I’m gonna hurl-de-gozaru…”

Yokoo-kun, unable to endure it, vomits, and Tatei-kun is turning pale though barely managing to hold it back. They weren’t used to seeing heaps of human remains. The corpses were everywhere, tossed aside like literal garbage. Heads caved in, torsos severed from legs – not a single body was left intact.

”Is this a Stampede?” Reese-san asked, her voice trembling. “Did the monsters overflow?”

”No,” I said, scanning the carnage. “If it were a Stampede, there’d be monster carcasses mixed in. All I see here are humans.”

Soldiers in armor, mages in robes, and common citizens who never stood a chance. Men, women, children – it didn’t matter. From where I stood, there wasn’t a single sign of life.

”There might be survivors. We have to look – !”

A man’s scream pierced the air. Honoka-chan and the others heard it too. We shared a grim nod.

”Move! We might still be able to save someone. Tatei-kun and Yokoo-kun, get back in the vehicle. Alice-chan and Sango-chan, stay with them.”

 ”I… I’m sorry-na…”

 ”This is pathetic-de-gozaru…”

Both are dejected, but I didn’t think any less of them. If anything, I was the freak for being able to look at this without flinching. Somewhere along the line, I’d become completely desensitized to death.

We ran toward the scream. We found a group of Knights and mages forming a desperate line, trying to shield a group of civilians. They had the numbers, but the power gap was a joke. The Knights were being slaughtered, while the attackers didn’t have a scratch on them.

The enemies were massive – at least two sizes larger than any human. They were built like tanks, with bull-like horns protruding from their temples. Kijin³. High-tier Ogres. And there were over a dozen of them.

”Hold the line even if it costs your lives! If they break through, the civilians are dead! Sorcery soldiers!”

”Yes! O Fire, burn that person to ashes, ‘Fire Arrow’!”

A volley of flaming bolts slammed into the Kijin. It scorched them, sure, but it wasn’t enough to stop them.

”Gwahahaha! A little toasty, but that all you got?! Here – have some back!”

The lead Ogre-kin swung a massive iron club. One hit from that would turn a man into a red smear.

 ”I’m going in!”

I compressed time, blurring across the gap. I caught the club with my dragon-bone greatsword, parried the weight, and took the Kijin’s head with a clean diagonal slash on the follow-through.

 ”Guh… how…?”

 ”………Eh?”

The Ogre-kin cut by me opens his eyes wide and dies. The Knight captain looked up in confusion when the blow never landed. He stared at me, his jaw dropping at the sight of the dead Ogre.

 ”Are you safe?”

 ”A-ah. You are…”

”Save the introductions for later. Honoka-chan, rescue the wounded. Mihiro-san and Reese-san, follow me!”

 ”””Roger!”””

Under my command, Mihiro-san and Reese-san attack the Kijin. No matter how tough these Kijin were, they were nothing compared to Heroes. Plus, their gear was top-tier now – Mihiro-san was dual-wielding a katana and wakizashi forged from Hraesvelgr fangs and Tamahagane by Tatei-kun’s special make, and Reese-san’s spear had enough piercing power to go through tank armor. Within minutes, the Kijin were nothing but silent corpses.

”Thank you. You saved our lives,” the Knight captain said, bowing.

”Don’t mention it. Why are Ogre-kin raiding a city like this?”

”We don’t know. They’ve already leveled a fort and wiped out five villages. We had a heads-up and tried to prepare, but… well, you see how that went.”

He hung his head in shame. Against Kijin, most humans are just fodder. The fact that he stayed to protect the civilians instead of running made him a better man than most.

”Is this the whole raiding party?”

”No, there are more. Monster Hunters, students from the Magic Academy Viede, and the Chairman are all out there, but we’re stretched too thin. If you could help…”

”We’re in. We don’t have many people, but as you saw, we hit hard.”

”That’s a godsend. One more thing – these Ogre-kin were organized. They moved like trained soldiers, not bandits. There has to be a commander behind this.”

So it’s an invasion. Or a raid. Whatever. The “why” didn’t matter right now.

”We need to split up. Mihiro-san and Reese-san, find survivors and guide them to the Prydwen. Honoka-chan, handle the triage. Focus on those in critical condition. Tatei-kun and Yokoo-kun, get out here and help her with first aid. Captain, follow Honoka-chan. We’re turning this square into a field hospital.”

”Understood. But shouldn’t some of us go with you – ?”

”No. Just protect the wounded and keep Honoka-chan safe.”

”Hey! I can take care of myself!”

”No. It’s because some ‘important’ asshole is going to show up and demand you treat them first. You’re too kind to say no. I’m leaving the Knights here to make sure the priority stays on the people who are actually dying. Don’t mess this up.”

”Oh… good point. Okay! Knight-san, I’m in your hands.”

 Honoka-chan gave a polite bow.

”Haha! It would be my honor to guard such a lovely lady,” the captain laughed.

”Just remember, she’s cute, but if you lay a finger on her, you’re dead.”

”Of course. I’m not the type to repay a favor with treachery.”

 ”Alright. Let’s move!”

We fanned out, heading deeper into the burning city.

 —

 Summary:

Hina and the party reach the territory of Envyos after a journey filled with minor diversions. Upon reaching the city of Viede, they discover it is being brutally invaded by a disciplined unit of high-tier Ogre-kin (Kijin). Hina intervenes to save a squad of knights and establishes a field hospital before heading deeper into the chaos to find the commander.

 —

 Trivia:

 - Hina is deliberately avoiding s*x with Lil to protect the pregnancy.

 - Mihiro identifies as they/them and has significant local knowledge of Envyos.

 - The enemies are not beasts; they are trained soldiers moving with discipline.

 - Hina admits to being mentally desensitized to slaughter compared to Tatei and Yokoo.

 - The bandits captured earlier were given to Orcus as ‘partners’ or slaves

 —

 Character Insight:

Hina shows a growing coldness and pragmatism, prioritizing tactical triage over sentimentality. However, the author’s note reveals a parallel between Hina’s internal ‘desensitization’ and the author’s own real-world struggle with mental health and intrusive thoughts.

 —

 Behind the Scenes:

The author is struggling with suicidal ideation and clinical depression, which is directly impacting the release schedule. The Gundam Wing quote at the end reflects a feeling of being lost or burdened by a ‘score’ or duty.
