Chapter 37 Himezaki Rieslett ④

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 The following morning-

”Well then, Himezaki-san, please go ahead with your self-introduction,” Philneed-sensei said.

”Yes. I’m Himezaki Rieslett. Due to certain circumstances, I’ll be studying here with all of you. It hasn’t been long since I arrived, so there is much I don’t yet understand, but I hope you can show me the ropes. I look forward to working with you,” I said.

Prompted by our homeroom teacher, Philneed-sensei, I gave a brief introduction. The classroom erupted instantly.

 ”Whoa, she’s a total knockout!”

 ”So beautiful…”

”She said she just got here-where’s she from?”

”Big Sis! Big Sis! Big Siiiiis!”

Yeah, okay, that last one was Jessica. She was waving her hand frantically. She knew we were going to be in the same class from the start, yet she was still acting this hyped… just how happy was she?

And so, I officially began my life as a student of the Academy of Sorcery Greedia¹.

Regarding the academy, it has three school years with four classes per grade, essentially the equivalent of a junior high school in Japan. With roughly 25 students per class, the total student body numbers around 300.

My current attire was the same as the other girls: a black cloak over a white shirt, accented with a red ribbon tie. A navy-blue, knee-length pleated skirt, black knee-highs, and brown leather shoes. Aside from the cloak, it wasn’t much different from what students wore in my old world.

By the way, my current Status looked like this:

 Name: Himezaki Rieslett

 Race: Human

 Gender: Female

 Class: Apprentice Sorcerer

 Level: 1

 LP: 100/100

 MP: 80/80

 Condition: Excellent

 STR: 10

 VIT: 10

 DEX: 30

 AGI: 10

 MAG: 30

 MIN: 50

 Skills:

 Language Comprehension (UN)

 Appraisal (R)

 Item Box (R)

 Cosplayer (UN)

 Titles:

 The Teleported

 Hero

Student of the Academy of Sorcery Greedia

My class changed to Apprentice Sorcerer, and while my MAG increased by 20, my DEX dropped by the same amount. It made zero sense.

Anyway, thanks to the fact that I’d slept like a log the night before, I felt amazing.

On the other hand, Jessica looked a bit sleep-deprived. I wondered if she’d be alright. I just hoped she wouldn’t nod off in the middle of a lecture.

”Alright, question time! Does anyone have a question for Himezaki-san?” Philneed-sensei asked.

”Me! Me! Pick me!” the students shouted.

Philneed-sensei set up one of those “transfer student Q&A” sessions you always see in manga. Honestly, though, Philneed-sensei didn’t look a day older than me. I was pretty sure she was supposed to be over forty…

Regardless, as expected, everyone’s hand shot up at once. Even Jessica was reaching.

Philneed-sensei chose a boy at random. His face was already turning beet red.

 ”Um… Himezaki-san… do you have… a boyfriend?” he asked.

 Another cliché question.

 ”I don’t have a lover,” I replied.

 ”Yes!”

”This is it! My chance to get close to a beautiful older girl!”

 ”Wait, please marry me!”

”You’re all wrong! Big Sis is going to be my groom! Isn’t that right~desuwa!” Jessica shouted.

”Wh-what!?” the boys cried in unison.

The male students started making a scene. I mean, they’re just kids and they’re already proposing? They’re way too precocious. …Or so I thought, but I found out later that in this world, fifteen is considered adulthood. People apparently get married as early as twelve or thirteen, and someone my age is considered to be in her absolute prime.

Also, Jessica, please stop saying weird things.

 The questions continued.

 ”What’s your hobby?”

 ”Hmm… making clothes, I guess?”

 ”What’s your favorite food?”

 ”Cream stew.”

 ”And what’s your least favorite?”

”Bitter things. Like bitter melon… Goya?”

Apparently, it doesn’t exist here. I felt a small wave of relief.

”Alright, then what are your three si-“

 ”Something the matter?” I asked.

”Eek! N-no, it’s nothing!” the boy squeaked.

Since a kid tried to ask the standard perverted question, I stared him down with a beaming, razor-sharp smile. He backed off instantly. I’m sure I looked terrifying-one of those smiles where the eyes stay dead cold.

To be fair, he probably backed off because every girl in the room was looking at him with pure contempt.

Deciding that was enough, Philneed-sensei clapped her hands together.

 ”Alright, that’s enough questions. Let’s start the lesson. Himezaki-san’s seat will be… let’s see…”

”Teacher! Here! This spot right here is open~desuwa!” Jessica called out.

”Wait, Jessica?! You…!” another student complained.

Jessica literally shoved the kid next to her out of the way to clear a space. Good grief…

”In that case, Himezaki-san, take the seat in the very back,” Philneed-sensei said.

 ”Aww…” Jessica groaned.

She pouted, grumbling under her breath.

 Don’t “aww” me, Jessica…

* * *

Since it was the first day, the lessons were mostly a review of the basics. The morning was dedicated to general studies-language, arithmetic, and geography-while the afternoon was reserved for magic lectures.

Thanks to my skills, language was no problem at all, and the math hadn’t even reached basic algebra yet, so there was nothing for me to “review.” Geography, however, was a different story. I had no idea where I was or what other nations existed.

So, it started with a “World History 101.”

This world-or at least this continent-is called Guiltia. It’s inhabited by three main races: Humans (Huma), Elves, and Dwarves. Humans are the most numerous, but Elves and Dwarves are seen quite regularly. Interestingly, there are no “beast-folk”-those people with animal ears and tails you always see in modern fantasy novels. Then there are the Demons, who are hostile to all the human races. You almost never see them, but the teacher warned that if you did, it would essentially mean a crisis for all of humanity.

Next, the countries. The continent is divided into seven nations: the commercial nation of Greedia (where I am now); the Kingdom of Plaudix to the south; the military state of Wrathfiria to the north; the Envyos Magocracy to the east; the resort-driven Slothset; the culinary capital of Glattonios; and the Holy Prostitution State Lustarika. These seven nations surround a central, monster-infested wasteland known as the Demon King’s Domain².

Just because they have a common enemy in the Demons doesn’t mean the nations are friends. Greedia and Plaudix are practically at each other’s throats. They aren’t in an open war right now, but their armies clashed just a few years ago.

On the flip side, we’re allied with Wrathfiria. Since they also aren’t on good terms with Plaudix, the alliance was a natural fit.

Just then, the bell rang, signaling the end of the morning block. Finally-the magic lesson I’d been waiting for.

 But first…

* * *

”So, Big Sis, how’s the school food here?” Jessica asked.

”It’s actually really good,” I replied.

”I knew it! They say the chefs here trained in Glattonios themselves!”

Jessica was frolicking as if it were her own achievement.

This was our midday fuel-up before the afternoon classes. Apparently, some students bring home-cooked lunches, but I’m totally hopeless in that department. Honestly, I’ve never even tried to cook.

It wasn’t just Jessica with me, either. Most of the class had followed us, so I was still being pelted with questions.

I just want to eat in peace…

I’d picked the hamburger steak with a baguette, a leaf-vegetable salad, and corn. They even had mayonnaise here, which meant I couldn’t pull the classic “Isekai Mayonnaise Revolution” cheat. Bummer.

I cut into the steak, and it was so juicy it was practically mouth-watering.

”Apparently, the food here got this good about a hundred years ago, around when Glattonios was founded~desuwa. Legend says a Hero from another world built the country because he wanted to ‘spread delicious food for the sake of the Heroes who come after,’” Jessica explained.

 ”Huh. Interesting.”

 I guess I owe that Hero a thank-you note. …Wait.

”Hey, you said a Hero built it… Does that mean…?”

”Yes. That Hero was a Visitor³ from another world. They say a new Hero appears roughly every century,” Jessica said.

Inferring from that, it meant the Demon King probably appears every hundred years, too. Since I’m technically the Hero, he must be manifesting somewhere in the wasteland right about now. News just hasn’t traveled yet because communication in this world is so slow.

But seriously, after teleporting a total amateur like me (saying it out loud makes me feel pathetic…), is that Goddess even playing with a full deck?

”Hey, it’s been a hundred years since the last Demon King was defeated, right? I bet he’s already back,” one of my classmates chirped.

 Don’t tempt fate, kid.

”Perhaps you’re right. But it’ll be fine~desuwa! Because we have my Big Sis!” Jessica declared.

 ”Huh? Why Himezaki-san?”

”No way. Everyone knows the Hero has black hair and black eyes. Himezaki-san’s hair and eyes are totally different.”

”Exactly. There’s no way I’m a Hero,” I chimed in.

 ”Hmph!” Jessica pouted.

I denied it, but Jessica knows I’m a “Visitor.” She knows I’m a Hero, too. That’s why she’s so obsessed, but I really want to keep my status a secret. It sounds like a one-way ticket to a mountain of trouble.

I might have been dragged here against my will, but I’m going to enjoy this world, Demon King be damned! That’s my final answer.

Of course, I’d eventually find out that my classmates from back home had been summoned too, which would thoroughly ruin my plans for a “relaxed life.” But at that moment, I was blissfully unaware…

 Summary:

Rieslett officially enrolls in the Academy of Sorcery Greedia, navigating her first day of classes and student interrogations. She receives a geography lesson about the continent of Guiltia and its seven sin-themed nations. During lunch, she learns more about the historical cycle of Heroes and Demon Kings.

 —

 Trivia:

 - The change in Rieslett’s status: +20 MAG but -20 DEX.

 - The age of adulthood in this world is 15, and marriage happens as early as 12-13.

 - The specific names of the seven nations and their thematic connection to the Seven Deadly Sins.

 - The existence of ‘Visitors’ or ‘Etrangers’ appearing every 100 years.

 - The fact that Rieslett’s classmates from her original world were also summoned

 —

 Character Insight:

Rieslett is actively trying to hide her Hero title to maintain a ‘relaxed life,’ showing a desire for normalcy over fame. Jessica’s loyalty remains borderline obsessive, yet she acts as a bridge between Rieslett and the world’s lore.

 —

 Behind the Scenes:

The nation names (Greedia, Plaudix, etc.) and their capitals (Liones, Draguos) are heavy nods to the Seven Deadly Sins, which likely influences the geopolitical tension between them.

 TL Notes:

1 Greedia: Derived from the sin of Greed; the commercial capital of the continent.

2 Demon King’s Domain: A barren wasteland in the center of the continent, traditionally the spawn point for the Demon King.

3 Visitor (Etranger): A term for individuals summoned or teleported from another world, usually possessing unique ‘cheat’ abilities.
