Volume 7 Chapter 3 Proud Beastgirl
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”However, to think she’s a beastkin… Hmm, what should I do?” I murmured.
I had subdued the beastkin girl using a rather ruthless weapon and now had her tied up tightly before me. We were in a room borrowed from the guild—one I usually used for interrogating the thugs I’d captured. And now, she sat there, glaring daggers at me, her limbs bound.
”What seems to be troubling you?” Lena asked.
”Soyuu, what’s wrong?” Vera followed up.
The two girls looked at me with concern and curiosity. Normally, I never allowed anyone inside during interrogations, but this time they’d insisted, claiming it was “absolutely necessary.” I’d had no choice but to relent.
…Well, it’s not like I planned on torturing this girl to begin with.
”No, usually, even if the opponent is a woman or a young child, I’d do whatever it took to achieve my goals—including torture. But it’s pointless with beastkin.”
Indeed. Beastkin would never break under torture. Even if I tried, they’d simply take their own lives. That was the nature of their kind.
By default, beastkin did not mingle with humans, elves, or other demi-humans. They lived apart, in their own insular society.
However…
On rare occasions, a beastkin might act alongside other races. That only happened when they had received a favor.
Proud by nature, beastkin never forgot kindness. Even if they refused to associate with other races, they would repay debts without fail.
As proof of this, she wasn’t wearing a slave collar. To attempt something as dangerous as assassination for the sake of another race without being enslaved… meant she was repaying a deep debt of gratitude.
Given that, I decided to remove her gag.
”Now then, I’ve got a few questions for you,” I said, crouching down to meet her eyes.
She glared at me with a low growl.
I took another moment to observe her carefully. Her messy, ash-gray hair framed a pair of sharp, triangular ears that stood perked up. Her large, golden eyes were slitted and intense, and her nose and muzzle were slightly more beast-like than that of any human or elf. She looked to be about the same age as Lena. If she weren’t baring her fangs at me, she’d have had an undeniably adorable face.
”First, tell me your name. I’m Soyuz. This girl from the south is Lena, and the half-elf is Vera.”
I introduced us all, but the beastkin only responded with a low, threatening growl.
”Who ordered you to attack me? What kind of organization do they belong to?”
”Grrrowl…”
”If you don’t answer, I’ll have to resort to other means, you know?”
”I won’t say anything. If you want to kill me, go ahead. I won’t talk, even if I die.”
Her gaze burned with hatred as she declared her intent, teeth bared.
”Sir Soyuz. We should kill this one at once. Such disrespect toward you is unforgivable,” Lena snapped.
”I feel the same,” Vera added coolly.
Lena had her hand on the hilt of her dagger, while Vera conjured a sphere of water in her palm, her killing intent palpable.
”Enough. Both of you, stop.”
I calmed the two down and gave it some thought. Right now, this beastkin girl was the closest link I had to the information I wanted. But negotiations wouldn’t work with a beast, and torture was useless. That left me with very few options…
As I remained lost in thought, Lena raised her voice hesitantly.
”…Then, Sir Soyuz. If I may be so bold, I have an idea.”
”Yeah, go ahead.”
Honestly, I was ready to hear anything at this point. More than that, I was touched that Lena was thinking seriously and proposing something on her own. Unless it was something completely ridiculous, I’d at least consider it.
”Yes. Just embrace her. If you use the great charm of Sir Soyuz’s wonderful penis to make her weak, wouldn’t it be easy to ensnare such a beast?”
…That was far worse than I’d anticipated.
I mean, does she seriously think I’m some kind of male courtesan?
”That’s out of the question. I’d never force myself on a child who doesn’t want it. Besides, beastkin are a proud race. There’s no way she’d allow me to touch her body. If I tried, she’d probably bite off her own tongue. Right?”
I turned to the beastkin girl. Her eyes sharp, she spat out her answer without hesitation.
”Even if my body is defiled, I will never allow my soul to be tainted. Don’t think you can do anything to me while I’m alive.”
”I want to kill her, Soyuzz. I can’t forgive this one,” Vera muttered.
”That’s exactly why you shouldn’t, Vera. Why are you both so bloodthirsty today?”
I let out a sigh, scolding them both before returning my gaze to the beastkin girl.
Torture was out. Negotiation was pointless. Seduction… not even on the table.
Then I guess…
This was the only path left.
It wasn’t a method with a high chance of success, and there were definite risks involved. But right now, I didn’t have any better ideas.
”Lena. Vera. Let’s step outside for a moment.”
I took their hands and led them out of the room. Once we were far enough that even a beast’s ears wouldn’t catch our conversation, I laid out my plan.
”──And that’s the situation. Vera, can you do it?”
”I will. I’ll do my best,” she answered, nodding earnestly.
I cupped the cheek of my beloved half-elf, who responded with determination in her eyes.
”This time, I’m counting on your spirit magic. Please.”
I pressed a kiss to her lips, filled with gratitude.
”I’ll definitely do my best.”
Her lips curled into a smile, and she answered with a happy little murmur. “Mufu~.”
”And Lena will protect Vera, right?”
”As you command. I’ll protect Ms. Vera, no matter what happens.”
”I’m counting on you… My Lena.”
I pulled Lena into my arms, ran a hand along her shapely backside, and whispered into her ear.
”Hyaa… Fai… Go… I’ll do my best to live up to your expectations… Uu…”
Her charming brown skin—typical of the southern races (T/N: southern peoples often have darker complexions)—quivered beneath my touch. Blushing and panting softly, she returned my embrace.
…Yeah, I think she just had a small orgasm.
This was my special way of motivating them, but… yeah, if someone saw it, I’d definitely look like a male courtesan.
* * *
I returned to the interrogation room, shoved the gag back into the beastkin girl’s mouth, and stuffed her into a sack.
Hoisting the sack over my shoulder, I left the guild behind and made my way toward the outskirts of town.
There, in an empty, deserted lot with not a soul in sight, I set the sack down.
”Are you going to kill me here?” she asked, her voice muffled but calm.
”What if I said yes?” I replied.
”I wouldn’t do anything. If you’re going to kill me, just get it over with…”
She had clearly resigned herself to her fate. No growling, no resistance—just silent acceptance as she cast her eyes downward. And then—
”Mama… I’m so sorry… I really am…”
She whispered it so faintly I could barely catch the words.
I responded, a trace of hope flickering in my voice.
”I won’t kill you. I don’t like doing unnecessary things, and killing you here won’t gain me anything. I’m also not going to r*pe you. Forcing myself on a woman who doesn’t want it is just… unpleasant. So, I’m going to—”
I drew the dagger from my waist and sliced through the ropes binding her.
Her eyes flew open wide. In that instant, she looked as young as her age would suggest.
”W-Why…?”
”I want you to deliver a message. Go back and tell your master, ‘I couldn’t defeat that man. Don’t oppose him. Do as he says.’ “
Her expression hardened the moment I mocked her. She dropped into a squat, her glare fierce.
”Oh? You wanna fight me? Sure, I’ll take you on as many times as you want. I’ll beat you down until you show me your cute belly and beg for forgiveness. Come on, girl.”
”Gaaah!”
She charged at me, a burst of fury driving her, but I sidestepped and swept her legs out from under her in one smooth motion.
”Gyaaah!?”
She tumbled across the ground like some over-the-top comic actor.
”Come on, come on, girl. You’re mad, right? I’m right here, so bring it!”
I goaded her further, beckoning with a grin.
But after just that one exchange, she seemed to calm down. Ignoring my taunt, she looked at me squarely and spoke.
”Georgie.”
”Hm?”
”That’s my name. I’m Georgie, the wolf beastman. I will kill you.”
The beastkin girl declared her name with solemn resolve. Then she turned on her heel and bolted, her figure quickly shrinking into the distance.
”Beastmen really are unnecessarily proud, huh? They can’t just run away quietly—no, they have to announce their name and vow to get revenge first. Makes them easy to read… Don’t you think so, Vera?”
I turned to Vera behind me. She nodded with a serious look.
”It’s fine. The gnome is following her.”
Right. This time, I’d let Georgie escape on purpose. From here on out, we’d track her using Vera’s spirit magic.
It reminded me of my training days with my master. Once, after I’d done something to tick her off, I ran around the forest trying to hide—only to be found instantly and beaten to a pulp.
At the time, she’d sneered and said:
”Did you really think you could escape from us elves, who have the protection of spirits?”
Her voice still echoed in my mind, that line carved into my soul as a scar—no, a trauma.
Later, I asked Vera how my master had found me so easily.
”That’s easy if you ask the gnome,” she said nonchalantly.
(T/N: Gnome is the earth-element spirit in classical Western and Japanese elemental systems.)
So this time, following in my master’s footsteps, I asked Vera to borrow the power of the earth spirit, the gnome, to track Georgie.
If she returned to her master, we’d have accomplished our goal. I still didn’t know if that person was part of the organization, but anyone who went out of their way to try to kill me had to be worth investigating.
”All right. Let’s go after her. Both of you—put this on.”
I handed them each a potion to mask their body scent and sprayed some on myself as well.
Beastmen had incredibly sharp senses of smell. You couldn’t afford to cut corners with them.
I met eyes with Vera. She gave me a firm nod.
”This way.”
With Vera in the lead, we dashed off in pursuit.
