Zero-Mana-Boss 15

Chapter 15 Remote Conditioning

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Sitting alone in my private study, I quietly gazed at the ring on my left middle finger.

In the dim air of the room, the simple ring absorbed the faint light like a piece of polished obsidian. This was the magic artifact (a tool that uses magical power) of absolute control, forming a pair with the collar I had forced onto the “Saint of Light”, Elenor Asgard.

A cold feeling spread to my fingertips the moment I touched it.

I focused my mind on the ring, sending a tiny bit of my mana (magical energy) into it.

As the mana flowed from my fingertip, the ring began to warm slightly. The mana was sent straight to the matching collar, triggering its set effects.

 ”Khyah?!”

Lilia, who had been standing right before me watching my every move, suddenly let out a strange, high-pitched squeak, looking exactly like a cat that had just had its tail stepped on.

Her voice instantly broke the quiet of the study.

A sudden, sharp sting must have raced through her body. The choker-style magic artifact I had made her wear around her neck worked perfectly, forcefully messing up the mana inside her.

After her eyes went wide with shock, Lilia’s face quickly turned a deep, bright red.

She looked just like a ripe apple.

Her wet, teary eyes turned toward me, silently scolding me for my little prank.

”M-Master…! Please do not do such things… It is terrible for my heart…” Lilia pleaded, out of breath, looking up at me through her eyelashes.

I stood up from my chair and walked to Lilia, who was puffing out her cheeks in a pout.

I dropped a light kiss on her soft cheek.

A faint, flowery smell came from her skin.

”Haha, my bad. Your reaction was just so cute I couldn’t help myself. Tomorrow, I’m finally going to use this on the princess. I just wanted to check its performance one last time. It was a final test, so don’t be so angry,” I said smoothly.

”…Ngh, M-Masterrr…” Lilia whimpered weakly, her voice melting as her cheeks turned even redder.

 Honestly, what a lovable creature.

The corners of my mouth naturally curled into a smile.

To me, this was a deep comfort—or perhaps a small, delightful pleasure.

”While I’m at it, let’s do one more. I might as well test the performance of another magic artifact. Go call Mina here,” I commanded.

”At once, sir. It shall be done,” Lilia said, bowing low.

Her cheeks still holding a faint red color, Lilia turned and left the room.

After watching Lilia walk out, I sent my mana into a different ring-type magic artifact. The [Ring of Transformation]1 that I had developed myself.

As I poured mana into it, a faint, pale blue light leaked from the ring, making my form waver and distort unsteadily.

This was a perception-blocking magic artifact.

Instead of physically hiding my form, its effect worked directly on the minds of others, making them mistake my presence for “someone else who happened to be standing there”.

Before long, Lilia came back to the room, leading Mina along with her.

The door to the room creaked open.

”We have returned, Master…?!” Lilia stammered, catching sight of me and instantly putting up her guard, gasping as if she had seen a ghost.

”Eh… Wh-who are you? Where is Master…?” Mina whimpered in terror, her voice shaking as she hid right behind Lilia.

It seemed that in the eyes of those two, I looked like an “unknown intruder,” or perhaps some dark, scary shadow. From their reactions, the effect was working perfectly.

Satisfied, I stopped the flow of mana to the ring-type magic artifact.

The faint, pale blue light vanished, and the distortion covering my body disappeared as if it had all been an illusion.

I returned to my usual look.

”Eh? Huh… Master?!” Lilia gasped, her eyes going perfectly round.

”When did you get there?!” Mina cried out in sheer surprise, looking confused.

Faced with what had just happened right in front of their eyes, the two of them blinked in wonder all over again.

 An excellent result.

(It seemed I had used a magic artifact to recreate the ‘perception block’2 from the magical girl anime I watched every week in my past life—the kind where nobody figures out the heroine’s real identity.)

 The next day――

Arriving at the Academy, the first thing I did was search for the Student Council President, Elenor Asgard.

The morning Academy was filled with the busy chatter of students, and the bright sunlight cast sharp shadows across the stone pavement.

She was very easy to find.

Out on the courtyard terrace, she was enjoying a pleasant conversation with the other members of the student council.

Bathed in the sunlight, her blonde hair shone like threads of melted gold, its brightness seeming to light up the whole area.

Her dignified, elegant posture was the very definition of the “Saint of Light”.

Her overwhelming majesty could be clearly felt even from a distance.

Looking at that beautiful scene from afar, I sent just a tiny bit of my mana into the ring on my left hand. A faint warmth spread from my fingertip.

 ”Ngyah?!”

The attention of every student on the terrace instantly locked onto one point.

As if time itself had suddenly stopped, the happy chatter died down completely.

The source of that voice was none other than Elenor.

Leaving her usual dignified composure entirely behind, she had let out an incredibly cute, uncontrollable shriek and frozen completely solid on the spot.

The sudden, forced disruption of the mana inside her body had brought an unpleasant sting—but above all else, she was overwhelmed by the pure humiliation of making such a pathetic noise in front of a huge crowd. Those two feelings made her pale cheeks turn deep red in seconds.

She was burning red all the way to the tips of her ears.

I could read her pain and frustration like an open book.

Eventually, she noticed my presence and glared in my direction, her eyes blazing with furious anger. Her intense stare felt like a burning blade thrusting into my back.

But to me, that was nothing but pure pleasure.

Completely ignoring her silent glare, I walked toward my own classroom as if nothing was out of the ordinary. For some reason, the feeling of her stare on my back was incredibly pleasant.

From that day onward, my strange new daily routine began.

In the hallways in the morning, in the cafeteria at lunch, and in the library after school. Once a day, I would suddenly mess up Elenor’s mana, giving her a light, sudden shock.

Every single time, her body would tremble slightly, and though the surrounding students would turn their eyes toward her in confusion, they could never understand what was happening and just tilted their heads. It was an exquisite, irresistible feeling.

It was a quiet, but very effective way of “training”3 her—designed to force her to realize that she was always under my watch, slowly wearing down her fierce, proud spirit day by day.

It was exactly like marking a wild beast you wanted to tame, or slowly giving a creeping, deadly poison.

While patiently continuing Elenor’s training, I also went about making contact with the sons of several powerful nobles.

I kept all mention of the demon Ashraf completely hidden from them.

But the simple facts that I had been officially named as the next head of the Grimlock house and that my engagement to the Vermillion house was still intact carried a huge weight that none of them could ignore.

Though they gave me measuring, thoughtful looks as if trying to judge my true worth, none of them treated me with open disrespect. Little by little, but with absolute certainty, my position was getting stronger.

My standing within this Academy was growing more secure by the day.

Building a solid foundation was, after all, one of my main goals.

Then, on one particular day, I finally got a formal summons from Elenor.

It seemed she had finally reached the very limit of her patience.

The moment I stepped into the student council room, a cold draft of air welcomed me.

The afternoon light coming through the window felt strangely cold.

With a stiff, tense expression, she sat behind her desk, waiting for me to approach.

Though her eyes were sharp with caution, they were clearly marked by deep exhaustion and desperate anxiety.

”Grimlock-kun. I shall demand an explanation directly. Of late, you have been making contact with various noble houses, regardless of their factional loyalties… Pray tell, what kind of scheme are you planning?” Elenor asked sharply, her voice full of refined superiority and elegant restraint, though it failed to hide her strong displeasure.

I chose not to answer her question.

Instead, I silently sent mana into the ring on my left hand.

I could feel the ring pulse slightly against my skin.

 ”Kyahun!!”

Elenor’s whole body jerked violently, her expression twisting into pure agony and utter humiliation.

Her high-pitched shriek echoed sharply through the quiet student council room.

She looked exactly like a small, fragile animal caught in a cruel trap. But I did not stop.

I poured even more mana into the artifact. Nonstop, over and over again.

 ”Ngh… Ah, nhaaaah…!”

A cry that sounded almost sexual leaked from the lips of the holy maiden.

It was a voice that sounded like tearing silk, or perhaps like someone shaking in overpowering ecstasy. Her whole body shook violently until she could no longer keep her balance, collapsing limply onto the floor.

Her sky-blue eyes were swimming with unshed tears as she glared up at me with absolute, burning hatred.

Her breathing was entirely ragged, and her face had gone completely pale.

Her golden hair spread across the floor looked as if it had been completely drained of its vibrant life.

Looking down at her completely powerless form, I finally opened my mouth to speak.

My voice was quiet, yet it carried absolute clarity.

”It has been officially decided that I will become the head of the Grimlock family, you see. I am merely making the rounds to greet everyone. I am certainly not planning anything at all,” I told her calmly.

 ”――At least, not just yet.”

Turning my back on Elenor, who remained slumped on the floor biting her lip in sheer embarrassment, I walked away. I could see her thin shoulders trembling uncontrollably.

I left the student council room at a leisurely pace. The heavy sound of the door closing behind me would surely echo deeply within her broken heart.

With this, she would no longer dare to openly fight me.

My words must have struck her as if I had reached inside her chest and grabbed her heart directly.

The collar bound to the Saint of Light was doing its job perfectly.

 Summary:

Channeling mana through his ring-type magic artifact, the protagonist executes remote physical conditioning tests on his submissive maid Lilia before testing his newly developed perception-blocking artifact. Moving his operations to the Academy the following day, he initiates a calculated, long-distance daily torment of the proud student council president, Elenor Asgard, slowly grinding down her dignity in public spaces. Confronted directly by Elenor within the student council room, the protagonist answers her suspicion by repeatedly overwhelming her body with the artifact’s electric disruptions, leaving the weeping Saint of Light entirely incapacitated on the floor under an ominous, unresolved threat.

 —

 Trivia:

 - The protagonist possesses meta-knowledge of the entire game script, which guides his choice of targets and political alignments.

 - The ring worn on the protagonist’s left middle finger serves as the control master terminal for a paired restraint collar forced upon Elenor Asgard.

 - Lilia’s collar-style artifact operates by forcibly disrupting the internal flow of its target’s personal mana when triggered.

 - The [Ring of Transformation] functions by manipulating the target’s cognitive processing centers rather than generating physical light refraction or true invisibility.

 - Elenor Asgard’s natural hair color is explicitly described as reflecting sunlight like strands of molten gold.

 - The protagonist purposefully conceals all tactical coordination regarding the demon Ashraf during his networking sessions with rival noble factions.

 - Despite the protagonist’s low social standing, his official claim over the Grimlock inheritance and the ongoing Vermillion engagement make him an unignorable force.

 Translation Notes:

1 The original Japanese uses square brackets [変身の指輪] (Ring of Transformation) to denote an item name or item interface description common in light novel game-world mechanics, preserved exactly in translation to retain web-novel UI conventions.

2 Literally ‘recognition obstruction’ or ‘perception inhibition,’ a common modern Japanese fantasy trope used for spells or items that obscure identity or presence without requiring absolute optical invisibility.

3 The title and narrative use the term ‘choukyou’ (training/conditioning/taming), a heavily loaded word in light novel contexts representing the systematic breaking of a character’s proud will through conditioning, translated contextually to preserve the dark tone.
