Chapter 78 The Demon Princess and the Light of Annihilation

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”I asked who you are.”

The Demon Realm’s princess, Lucifiel, fixed me with a glare from behind those jet-black eyes—her golden pupils sharp with wariness. There was curiosity there too, but it wasn’t friendly. It was the kind that sought to uncover the identity of an “enemy.”

 Huh?

Her affection level… seems awfully low?

My super cool, gentlemanly entrance appears to have completely bombed.

That seemed strange at first, but when I thought about it more carefully, I was just some suspicious guy who’d broken into her bedroom without permission. Apparently, the kind of meaningful conversational exchange you see in stories doesn’t start under these circumstances.

Her reaction here was entirely reasonable.

Honestly, the fact that she hadn’t screamed for guards and was still willing to talk was remarkably restrained of her.

First, I should answer her question honestly.

”My apologies for the intrusion. I am Xenos Grimlock. I’ve come here because I wished to establish a friendly relationship with you, Lady Lucifiel.”

Even as I said it, I figured it was quite a stretch—but surprisingly, Lucifiel seemed to decide to hear me out for the time being.

”…I see. Then let’s discuss the details over there.”

She turned her beautiful face toward the luxurious table set in the back of the bedroom, saying those words.

Seems she’s willing to sit down and listen.

An unknown intruder who’d managed to infiltrate the very heart of this castle without being detected by anyone. Rather than recklessly raise an alarm and summon the guards, she’d decided to first extract information from me herself.

 Quite the courageous princess.

I still hadn’t decided what kind of relationship I wanted with her going forward. Honestly, I’d come here with absolutely no plan, but well, I figured it couldn’t hurt to figure that out while we talked.

I followed her lead, slowly walking toward the table.

 That’s when it happened.

 WHOOSH!!

From directly beside me—a complete blind spot—a sharp, incredibly high-density mass of mana was hurled in my direction. It tore through the air and closed the distance to me in an instant.

 But—

Before the spell could reach me, it dissipated into nothing, like an illusion.

Around me, the power of [Magic Seal] was constantly active, nullifying all forms of magic. That was why I remained unscathed. If not for that, I’d have been dead from that one blow.

I glanced toward the corner of the room where the spell had been launched and spoke:

”Interrupting a sweet rendezvous with the princess… seems we have quite the crass little rat skulking about in this room.”

Something lurked in the pitch-black darkness.

What stepped out without a sound was a young demonkin girl.

She looked about fifteen or sixteen.

 A petite, lovely girl.

Her shoulder-length jet-black hair was neatly trimmed, gleaming with a sheen that seemed to swallow the light. Within those large dark eyes, emerald-green pupils glittered like jewels with an eerie glow.

She wore a frilly maid uniform.

But beneath that pretty outfit, an ominous aura radiated from her. A powerful surge of mana rippled through the air—quiet, but unmistakable.

 —She was no ordinary maid.

 Anyone could see that.

 I see.

So this was why Lucifiel had guided me to that table—to have me dealt with.

”… You not only saw through Myuril’s stealth magic but even nullified her offensive spell… Just who are you, really?”

 Lucifiel rose from the bed.

She raised both hands toward me, manifesting two opposing types of mana simultaneously—light and darkness.

The former Demon King’s daughter, Lucifiel.

Her waist-length silver hair swayed, almost translucent. She was a peerless beauty who seemed the picture of innocence. Her porcelain-white skin gleamed, and deep within her jet-black eyes, golden pupils glowed fiercely.

And now, spreading from behind her, were two pairs of wings that had been hidden until now.

One pair was pure white—angel’s wings.

The other pair was jet-black—demonic wings.

(Wait, they’re different colors on each side… ?)

The magic she was now constructing—as far as I knew—matched no spell I’d ever seen.

 It was completely unknown.

 Light and darkness.

 Fusing two opposing attributes simultaneously…

”This magic cannot be canceled. It fuses holy and demonic power to annihilate everything. —Now, disappear!!”

As she spoke, the air around me began to warp strangely.

I have to admit, I felt real panic at the magic she’d constructed.

(Wait, hold on. ‘Annihilation magic’!? Can my [Magic Seal] actually dissipate that? If it can’t, won’t I get erased from existence along with the [Magic Seal] ability itself… !?)

 I didn’t know.

But I had no choice but to rely on it.

While I was slipping into mild panic, Lucifiel completed her spell.

Then, toward me, she released a light that mixed darkness and purity—a beautiful yet ominous radiance.

 CRACKLE-BOOOOOM!!

I immediately expanded the effective range of [Magic Seal] around me to its maximum.

That ultimate magic, glowing with its strange light—but it couldn’t reach me. The moment the light touched my [Magic Seal]’s domain, it dissipated without a trace—as though it had never existed at all.

 Silence descended upon the room.

All that remained was the sound of our breathing—

It seemed unnaturally loud in my ears.

Lucifiel stood there, frozen in shock.

Her eyes wide with astonishment. Her hands still outstretched toward me. Her fingertips trembled faintly. Her trump card had indeed been nullified. That fact was quietly—but certainly—eroding her confidence.

”Th-That’s… impossible! My trump card… the magic that annihilates everything… you canceled it… !”

 Her voice was trembling.

 Not from anger.

 Not from fear.

 —But confusion.

Something inside her was beginning to crack.

(…Phew. That was close. Seriously, that was a close one.)

I let out a quiet breath of relief.

But I quickly suppressed it and returned my expression to neutral.

 She was wavering now.

—Now was the time to strike.

”Oh dear. When a princess is too much of a handful… I suppose a little discipline is in order.”

 I began walking toward her.

 Steady steps, closing the distance.

 One step, then another.

With each step, my jet-black eyes began to glow faintly red. A soft, flickering, eerie light pulsed from deep within my pupils.

It was just a mana effect, nothing meaningful—but this has to look cool, right?

 Now—

It was time for my counterattack.

 —
