But why did you come here…?

 ”Ugh, ugh…”

A gasp of realization cut off her words.

Before she knew it, the zombies were closing in.

They wore suits, work clothes, casual streetwear; a motley crew of fashion and age.

Confronted by the bizarre group, the fox-faced man spoke without a hint of hesitation.

”Oh, they showed up. Aight boys, break it up, party’s over.”

”Idiot, you think they can understand…!”

 Clapping drowned out his words.

As the man clapped his hands together, something pleasant seemed to blow away with the wind.

 ”*Scram. Beat it.*”

With a shudder, his voice commanded, resonating with an irresistible force, and the zombies retreated with their unsteady gait.

It was like one bad dream had overwritten another.

”Aight, time to wrap this up.”

 ”Huh…!”

The man turned towards her, failed to take a breath as she readied herself.

 She’d been targeted before,

With looks, or even direct words.

But that felt no different from children’s insults.

She realized that when someone truly means to kill, they only need means and will; intense emotions are unnecessary.

She understood that the terror gripping her body was the fear of immediate danger.

 ──”But why… why now…!?”

As she struggled to process the sudden turn of events, she managed to utter, “Wait for me…”

 ”Wait, what are yo──”

She closed her eyes against the sudden gust of wind.

Just before, she thought she heard a voice,

”There ya go, all done—hey little lady, act too big for your boots and you’re gonna get burned, ya hear? Watch yourself, for real.”

The man’s foot returned to the ground; the wind seemed to have been kicked up by his kick.

She couldn’t tell what the man had kicked.

 Only that something had ended.

 ”What are you, exactly?”

”A colleague. Unlike you, I’m a descendant of a long line of professionals.”

He inhaled sharply at the answer that was both surprising and inevitable.

”You know what this power is, don’t you? Are there others like us out there?”

”Course there are. Loads of us out there. And honestly? Might be safer for you on our side—ya look like you’re ready to get eaten alive.”

 ”Don’t be so dramatic…”

After saying that, she noticed the coldness in his narrow eyes.

He has warned her. If he doesn’t believe, if he can’t accept the truth, that’s her problem… It’s that kind of coldness.

 ”…What are you, really?”

The woman’s face again showed a hint of her usual carelessness.

”Just a friendly passerby, that’s all. If you’re curious, I’ll hook ya up—help you figure out what the hell’s been happenin’ to you. Uh, let’s see, who do I call in this neck of the woods….”

After saying that, he patted his pockets and let out a small “Oops.”

”Crap, forgot my phone—mind lettin’ me borrow yours real quick?”

 ”You’ve got to be kidding…!?”

Forgetting one’s smartphone while going out and then trying to borrow one from a stranger is hard to believe.

It seems the impression of him being from a different world was telling the truth.

”──Yo, sorry you two. Kept ya waitin’, huh?”

The man, having returned to Tennouzu Isle station, called out to the two waiting at the ticket gate.

”That’s fine, but where did you go?”

The beautiful girl with black hair in a ponytail, Suzuri, asked, and Naoshi gave a cheerful laugh in response.

 ”What else? Work, obviously.

 ”As expected, big brother.”

Ako, his younger sister-in-law, spoke with an ambiguous tone of praise.

Meanwhile, Suzuri seemed a bit bewildered.

”You don’t seem to get lost despite having no sense of direction.”

”Didn’tcha know, Suzuri-chan? Wherever I walk becomes the road itself.”

 ”Is that how it works…?”

(Yo, but for real—stuff like that’s just out in the open? Tokyo’s kinda buggin’, huh?)

As the Acting Head of the Kazuramichi family, Naoshi had temporarily stepped down to broaden his horizons in Kanto, Tokyo. But the situation might not be as ideal as he’d hoped.

(Can’t dodge the clichés no matter what, huh—ain’t no escape from the script.)

 Naoshi exhaled quietly.

Yet, this was his everyday life—the life of an exorcist that had continued for the past decade.

Not a single day had changed.

No matter where he was or who he faced, Naoshi’s duties remained the same.

”Aight, let’s roll—just try not to bother anyone, yeah?”

He reminded the two who swiftly grabbed his arms from either side.

 ”Got it.”

 ”Yes.”

Whether they understood or not, their responses were perfect. Naoshi shrugged.
