Volume 5 Chapter 1 Prologue Girl Meets Kansai Dialect
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
After her first period, any man close to her became a potential “enemy”.
Neighbors, classmates, teachers, even her mother’s boyfriend and sometimes the police she ran to.
Even those she trusted, over time, they would darken their eyes and try to do horrible things.
And when they failed, they’d all say the same thing.
”I was out of my mind,” or “I didn’t mean to.”
At first, the women around her showed sympathy, but soon they turned against her, suspecting she was the problem.
Even her biological mother wasn’t an exception──maybe it was like that from the start.
In a world with no allies, she was still just a little girl, but she managed to hold that last line because of simple “power”.
A strange power she gained at the same time as everything else changed around her.
Just focus a little, and she could topple one or 2 grown men easily──like copying parkour videos with a million views.
Her body became like a fiction heroine’s──an obvious privilege she thought was natural.
If laws, morals, common sense won’t protect her, then maybe it’s only fair she’s given something that will.
”Haa, haa…”
Low groans echo from all around.
The sun is pretty much gone, but is Japan really so unsafe that men would chase her like zombie horror villains?
She keeps running, lost in that thought.
Instead of breaking through the double enclosures, she chose the less guarded side, and before she knew it, she was cornered in a quiet warehouse district.
Just a short while ago, it was lively with workshops; now, everything’s silent.
”…Tch”
Today felt even stranger than usual.
The number of men, their bold moves──she felt a very strong will behind it all.
──”This can’t go on.”
She stops, steels herself, and catches her breath.
If her goal is to push herself into a quiet place, she should force her way outside no matter what.
”Ended up gettin’ off early, but looks like that was the right call, huh?”
Then, a carefree voice suddenly cuts in.
”Huh!?”
In a panic, she whirls around to see a man standing on the path she just ran down,
Dressed in an Inverness coat over a kimono, with a white stand-collar shirt peeking out from beneath, a young man in a double, triple-layered blend of Eastern and Western attire.
With a slender face and narrow eyes, he’s a handsome man with a slightly sinister look about him.
His demeanor is clearly different from the zombie-like men she’s seen.
”A lust spirit… Nah, wait. Possessed by a freakin’ succubus, huh? Now that’s somethin’ you don’t see every day.”
”Huh?”
”Ah, don’t mind me, I’m just talkin’ to myself. I’ll handle these creeps, aight? You just sit tight, little lady.”
──This guy, he knows something.
The look on his face and his words instantly raise her guard.
And while she’s at it, she doesn’t appreciate being called “little lady” either.
The time when she believed in allies of justice is long past; now, she’s all too familiar with men hiding ulterior motives behind kind faces.
”So I’m just supposed to say ‘yes, I understand’?”
”Eh?”
”You just pop up out of nowhere. You’re not just another lackey, you’re the big boss, aren’t you?”
The man raises an eyebrow, his narrow eyes and thin lips forming a sneer.
──Creepy.
”Yo, you don’t read comics or somethin’?”
”Huh?”
Like she’s the one who reads that stuff, seriously.
She throws that thought and her hostility into her gaze.
”What do you want to say?”
”Y’know, that’s the kinda line the loser says before gettin’ their ass kicked. Classic setup.”
”Destroy.”
This provocation, coming out here and now, was more than enough to label him an enemy ── at least in her mind.
She was ready for a hospital stay on a liquid diet.
But the punch she threw ended up slicing through the air.
”You move like someone who only picks on the weak, y’know that?”
After his taunting remark, her body splits in 2.
”──────!?”
The impact is so intense it feels like it pierces her stomach.
Whether she was punched or kicked, she can’t even tell; there’s just overwhelming pain.
”──h, ──, ────…!?”
She tries to endure the pain by curling up, attempting to take a deep breath.
That’s when she notices the strange absence of the pain that should be in her abdomen.
There’s only an unpleasant feeling in her stomach, making it hard to breathe properly.
”Yappin’ like a damn puppy’s fine and all, but if you don’t wanna get hit back, maybe pick your fights better, huh? Little lady.”
The words from above were said flatly, as if simply stating a fact, without any emotion behind them.
”Ah… Grr…”
That ignited the spark in her already wavering resolve.
She clenched her body tightly, thinking this time, she would kick him away for sure.
But the next moment, she found herself staring up at the sky.
With her back pressed against the knees of the crouching man, her throat, stomach, and vital points were left exposed.
”Wh–“
This time, she understood exactly what had happened.
In the blink of an eye, he closed the distance, and with a gentle touch, like a hairstylist cutting hair──yet with an undeniable strength──he broke her stance and forced her into her current position.
”Ain’t like you’re some kid that needs tuckin’ in, right? So behave yourself, will ya?”
The gentle, almost mocking voice accompanied a light tap on her forehead.
That at least made her understand that, for now, he had no intention of doing anything further to her.
