”Good boy, Tonjiru. Run faster than Takakiboo!” I urged.
”Hop, hop! He’s so fast! Go, Ton-chan!” Alexia cheered.
The creatures let out a high-pitched “Squee!”
”Squeeee-ark!”
”Shin, you idiot! You’re way too close to Churidince! Takakiboo, pick up the pace!” Karentisia barked. “We’re going to overtake them!”
”Waaaah!! Lady Karentisia! This little guy is too hyper! Please don’t make him go any faster!” Seria pleaded.
I’d caught those two “White Pig-Bunnies” ¹ (both males) earlier and named them Tonjiru and Takakiboo. Using my Tamer ² job, I’d forced them into becoming my “best buds.” They looked parched, so I gave them some suspicious medicine to drink. Thankfully, they became perfectly obedient. Life is good!
Right now, we’ve cleared the Richel Grasslands and are making tracks toward the Regain Kingdom. Alexia and I are riding Tonjiru, while Lady Karentisia and Seria are on Takakiboo.
As for Seria – after a long group discussion, we decided she’d join us. I couldn’t just leave one of the precious Heroines ³ all by herself in a place like Greenwood Village, especially with those bizarre “boundary line shifts” ⁴ happening there.
Besides, if she travels with Alexia, a “romance flag” might trigger between them. They could fall head-over-heels, get all lovey-dovey, and sail right past a Happy Ending into the sunset. If that happens, my job as the Villainous Heir ⁵ is done. The future where my head gets chopped off will vanish, and I’ll finally be free!
Kukuku. It’s a flawless plan. A masterstroke that would make a grandmaster strategist turn pale with envy. I call it: “Operation: Get Alexia and Seria to Fall for Each Other.”
”…Shin-kun. Are you thinking about other girls again? nano.”
She was clinging tightly to my back, her face wearing a doting, almost messy expression. Honestly, it’s the same thing every time. “Girls, girls” – is she really that worried about the Heroines being snatched away? She’s the Protagonist; she doesn’t even need to worry about that, right? She has a bright future waiting for her, surrounded by cute girls.
”I’m not thinking about anything in particular.”
”Liar. Whenever Shin-kun thinks about girls, he gets that shifty look on his face. I can tell. So, who were you thinking about? nano?”
As the years go by, Alexia’s insight into me is becoming razor-sharp. I was doing my best to keep a straight face; how did she see through my grand scheme to hook her up with the others?
”I was thinking about you, Alexia. I was thinking about our precious future.”
”Sh-Shin-kun is… thinking about a precious future with me? …I-It’s okay, Shin-kun. I’m going to stay with you forever, and ever, and ever, and ever. After all, Shin-kun is the pretty boy who’s going to be my groom. nano.”
Everything about that is wrong. Alexia, you’re supposed to be getting close to the girls, not me! That’s the only way I survive without you executing me!
”Alexia, I’m a bad seed. The only girls who’d ever come near me are stalkers like Lala-chan. Besides, you’re a noble who will eventually lead this kingdom. You can’t take a wild brat like me as a groom. You’d end up as a ‘Bad Protagonist’ if you did.”
”…That’s not true. Shin-kun isn’t a bad boy. Shin-kun is the pretty boy who always puts me first. I’m only here today because you were there for me. That’s why I’ll never let you get away. I’ll chase you to the ends of the earth… because I’m going to find happiness with Shin-kun. nano.”
For a second, I thought she was being sweet, but then she pivoted into something terrifying. My “top-tier favorite girl” was getting intense.
”Well, for now… we’re still a long way from being adults. Let’s just keep getting along, Alexia. I never want to fight with you. You’re… precious to me.”
I reached back and gently took both of Alexia’s hands in mine, giving them a soft squeeze.
”Kyun! Shin-kun, kyun! …R-Really, Shin-kun is… so cute and wonderful… I love you so much! nano!”
She squeezed my hands back. Hard.
CRACK. SNAP. GRIND. BAKI BAKI!!
”GYAAAAAAHHHHH!!”
She just pulverized every bone in my hands.
