Volume 1 Chapter 12 Adventurer’s Guild

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

From what Mercedes heard, the Adventurer’s Guild followed the standard script. You pick up a contract, finish the job, and collect your pay. They also handled material buybacks, so we were definitely going to be regulars. The guild utilized a seven-tier ranking system from S down to F. As expected, we were starting at the bottom. Promotion depended on your track record, with the general power levels breaking down like this:

F-rank was for greenhorns, typically Levels 1 through 6 with Ability Score¹ scores between 10 and 100. E-rank was the ‘apprentice’ tier for Levels 7 to 20 (Ability Score 100-500), while D-rank signified a full-fledged adventurer at Levels 21 to 32 (Ability Score 500-1,000). The mid-tier veterans sat at C-rank, spanning Levels 33 to 43 (Ability Score 1,000-1,500). Above them were the B-rank elites (Levels 44-53, Ability Score 1,500-2,000) and the A-rank first-class pros (Levels 54-63, Ability Score 2,000-2,500). Finally, S-rank was reserved for the world-class legends at Level 64 and beyond, boasting Ability Score scores over 2,500.

These ranks matched the threat levels of monsters, serving as a benchmark for what you could kill in a fair fight. For context, ‘Ability Score’ referred to the stat total for someone with a Rank C growth rate. The higher the rank, the more that mediocre growth rate became a liability. It made party roles vital. Since all my stats grew at Rank C, I knew I’d eventually hit a ceiling as a tank or a dedicated attacker.

The ‘Salarymans’ party roles were already taking shape. Makoto, despite his production class, had the high Strength and Vitality needed for the vanguard. Takuya, a Ninja with a versatile toolkit, took the mid-guard, while Kazuya, our Fantasy Summoner, held the rearguard. Kenta-kun, as a Magic Swordsman, would flex between the front and middle depending on the chaos. That left me. I was the wild card-or more accurately, the guy who could do a little of everything but nothing particularly well.

”Does anyone here know healing magic?” Mercedes asked. “Without a dedicated healer, you’re going to bleed money just trying to keep your potion stock full.”

”Makoto, Takuya, Kazuya… none of you have healing skills, right?” I asked.

”I possess no such arts-degozaru,” Takuya replied. “Though if no other candidate steps forward, I suppose I could be persuaded to study the craft.”

”Not me,” Makoto said. “I’m going the Blacksmith route. I don’t want to clutter my build with unrelated skills.”

”Count me out too-ssu, boss,” Kazuya added. “I need to pump my Fantasy Summoner unique skills if I want to stay relevant.”

”I see. Kenta-kun, what about you?”

”I don’t have it either,” Kenta replied. “Magic Swordsman is an offensive class. I’m willing to learn it, but it’s not really my lane.”

(So, we had a grand total of zero healers. I guess the job falls to me-the ‘versatile’ one, to put a positive spin on it.)

”We can’t just learn magic skills through sheer practice, can we?” I asked.

”Supposedly you can if you have master-level mana control, but you guys aren’t even close,” Mercedes said. “Just spend the Skill Points. It’s safer.”

”Fair enough. I’ll take the hit. You guys focus on maximizing your specializations.”

I opened my menu and spent the points. My skill set now looked like this:

Skills: Private Power Generation (m**urbation), Mental Memory, The Onanist’s Tribulation, 10x Experience Gain, Appraisal (Lv. 1) [0/10], Language Comprehension, Item Box (Lv. 1) [0/10], Healing Magic (Lv. 1) [0/10].

With our roles decided, we finalized our individual and party registrations. The process involved the standard ‘drop of blood on a plate’ ceremony-nothing fancy. Our F-rank tags were simple wooden boards with our names and ID numbers. Apparently, they upgraded to bronze and iron as you climbed the ranks.

The receptionist was every bit the beauty I’d expected, but she had a cold, professional aura that killed any hope of small talk. Besides, trying to flirt with Mercedes standing right there would have been a death wish.

”Next stop is the item shop,” Mercedes said. “We should at least get some basic potions.”

”A moment, if you please,” Makoto interrupted. “Even if I can’t start today, I’d like to find a Blacksmith to request an apprenticeship.”

”Good point,” I said. “Mercedes, can you lead us there after we hit the shop?”

 ”I don’t mind.”

I realized then that we’d managed to avoid the most common guild event: being harassed by low-life thugs. I wasn’t sure if it was luck, good policing, or if having a Knight like Mercedes with us acted as a deterrent, but I was grateful. As Level 1s, we would’ve been easy pickings.

”I thought we’d have to go introduce ourselves to a Guild Master or something,” I noted. “Is that not standard?”

Mercedes gave me a deadpan look. “You’re Level 1 F-rankers who just signed up. The Guild Master isn’t so bored that he spends his day greeting every new hobbyist who walks through the door.”

 ”Fair enough.”

And with that, we headed for the item shop.

Notes:

• Mercedes – She is a Guide Knight, recently recruited and currently the highest‑level among the youngsters, with brown semi‑long hair and thick chest armor. Energetic yet airheaded, she serves the Maultasche Kingdom as a beautiful girl knight, acting as a guide and chaperone for the summoned heroes and the protagonist’s party. Though described as having a “disappointing” personality, she presents a “pure and lovely” appearance and is self‑proclaimed pure and lovely beauty. As a member of the Knight Order, she is knowledgeable about the world’s mechanics and the guild system, and despite being prone to breaking equipment, she is a high‑level combatant and currently searching for a boyfriend.

• Kazuya – A scrawny Fantasy Summoner in the Salarymans party, serving as the rearguard, who speaks with a junior or slacker cadence.

• Makoto – He is a short, chubby man of the Blacksmith class, a formal summoned individual from Earth who speaks in a stiff, samurai‑like manner and uses the first‑person pronoun “sogashi”. As a member of the Salarymans party, he belongs to a production class yet possesses high STR and VIT, making him the party’s vanguard, and he aspires to become a master blacksmith, seeking apprenticeship under a master smith. He is a member of Reemans, enthusiastic about elves, and is noted for staring intensely at beautiful women, especially an elven girl in this chapter.

• Takuya – A reincarnated Ninja who refuses to join the Hero’s party because of a class mismatch, speaks in a stereotypical ninja dialect and suggests naming the party after Iga, now serves as a mid‑guard in the ‘Salarymans’ party, employs diverse attack methods, is a member of Leemans, and embodies a Ninja‑like persona.

• Kenta – A Magic Swordsman with a refreshing normal build, a fan of a famous RPG but lacking confidence to lead, now serves in the Salarymans party as a flexible combatant who can switch between vanguard and mid‑guard. He is a fellow reincarnated individual struggling to adjust to the new environment, a summoned Magic Swordsman class member, a member of the Leemans party, and already uses Water Magic.
