Volume 5 Chapter 4 Anytime, Any Number of Times

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

After wrapping up my date with the Gale Party, I made a mad dash back to the inn. I’d made a promise to Camilla, so I had to go pick her up.

”Sorry to keep you waiting, Camilla. Shall we go?”

 ”Yes!”

She must have been dying to leave, because she was already waiting by the entrance. I took her with me and headed toward the library. I checked on Liese before we left; she was still hard at work with her training, just as planned.

 ”Hello,” I said.

”Good afternoon,” Clarissa replied. “I’d heard there was a ‘Dungeon Upheaval’¹ and I’ve had it on my mind, but it looks like you’re doing just fine. …Oh?”

As I greeted Clarissa-san, her expression shifted to surprise when she saw Camilla holding my hand.

”The upheaval was a mess, but I didn’t walk away with any real injuries,” I explained. “This little one is someone I took in after a few things went down during the chaos. Camilla, why don’t you say hi?”

”I’m Camilla. It’s nice to meet you,” she said.

True to her shy nature, Camilla gave her greeting without looking Clarissa-san in the eye. I didn’t see much point in scolding her for it. When I reached down to pat her head, her face went all soft and squishy.

 ”Ehehe….”

”Camilla-chan is such a darling, isn’t she?” Clarissa said.

 ”Yeah. She’s a good girl,” I agreed.

As I kept petting her, Camilla grew more and more relaxed, her tail wagging fit to burst. It looked like Clarissa-san had taken a liking to her. I was relieved she didn’t seem to harbor any prejudice toward slaves. Since I’d taken her in, Camilla had been a ray of sunshine-it was incredibly cute.

”Well, I’m going to get some reading done. I’ll make sure Camilla stays quiet while we’re inside,” I said.

”What’s on the list for today?” Clarissa asked.

”Geography. I want to look into Maultasche and the surrounding lands.”

”Then the books you want are right this way,” Clarissa said.

I followed her as she led the way, just like always. From the front, her captivating smile and impressive bust were a major draw, but the view from the back was just as spectacular. The way her hips swayed as she walked was something else. (Those are definitely soft… I’m certain of it.)

 ”Master?” Camilla asked.

 ”It’s nothing,” I replied.

I’d been staring at Clarissa-san’s backside long enough for Camilla to get suspicious. That was close. Actually, the only ‘dangerous’ thing here was my own wandering eyes. I really needed to check myself.

Maultasche is bordered by the Empire to the north, the Dukedom to the east, the Sangster Holy State to the west, and a cluster of small nations to the south. It isn’t a landlocked country; it actually touches the sea to the southwest, where a fairly large trade city sits.

The river flowing near the Royal Capital runs toward that city, so goods are typically transported upstream by boat. Since people with Item Boxes or Magic Bags are a rare breed, water transport is the backbone of heavy shipping. The terrain is mostly gentle plains, though there are patches of wetlands and even some volcanoes. The area around the Capital used to be a marsh itself; the founding King was only able to build the town because the land was completely undeveloped. While farming villages now dot the landscape, they still have to import whatever food they can’t grow locally.

The Dukedom is entirely landlocked, located north of the country it originally belonged to. Since their rivers flow southward, they can’t use boat transport to trade with Maultasche. Our shared border is marked by a range of relatively low mountains. Like us, they also border the Empire to the north. To their east lies the Dragon Mountain Range, a territory where no human dares to tread. The Elves’ Forest is situated in the western part of the Dukedom; it’s so vast that finding a specific village without a guide seems like a fool’s errand.

Sangster Holy State isn’t particularly large-maybe a mid-sized nation at best. However, it serves as the seat of power for the Seven Pillar Religion. Because it houses their Holy Land, its influence over the surrounding nations and the rest of the world is massive.

To the north, the Empire boasts a staggering amount of territory, but the climate is so cold that they struggle with crop yields. They have plenty of minerals and resources, but they aren’t exactly ‘wealthy’ given their constant food security issues. I’d love to visit in the summer to beat the heat, but I’d need to make sure my information security is airtight before I even think about crossing the border.

Finally, the small nations to the south enjoy a warm climate and a long history. They’re essentially a collection of city-states. Because the cities are so old, they’d be great for tourism. The crime rate is a bit sketchy, but once I level up enough, I figure I can handle whatever comes my way.

Camilla stayed perfectly behaved by my side.

I could tell she wanted to crawl into my lap, but that would have been a bad move in a public place.

In this world, there are people Camilla’s age who are already married or even mothers; if I let her sit on my lap, someone might get the wrong idea and think we were ‘getting intimate.’ Since I really didn’t need that kind of trouble, I made her stick to the chair next to me.

We were still glued together at the hip, though, so I’m not sure how much of a difference it actually made.

Still, for a fourteen-year-old, Camilla’s behavior was noticeably young-she felt more like a five- or ten-year-old.

She probably became a slave at a young age and never had the chance to act like a kid.

I wanted to spoil her as much as I could.

It felt like I had a daughter or a little sister, even though I’d never had either in my old life.

* * *

When closing time rolled around, Clarissa-san came over to talk.

”Camilla-chan was a very quiet girl,” Clarissa noted.

”She’s a bit of a spoiled brat, but she really is a good girl,” I said.

I patted Camilla, and she wagged her tail happily. As long as she’s with me, she’s very cooperative.

”Well then, I’ll see you later,” Clarissa-san said.

”Right. I’m looking forward to it, Clarissa-san,” I replied.

I said my goodbyes to Clarissa-san and headed back to the inn to drop Camilla off.

* * *

I spotted Dietlinde-san today as well, so I called out to her.

 ”Good evening, Dietlinde-san,” I said.

”Good evening, Daisuke-san. …Ah, it’s that child,” Dietlinde replied.

She already knew I’d taken Camilla in from Gerta. Word travels fast after a duel at the Guild training grounds.

”You heard about that? Camilla, give her a greeting,” I said.

”I’m Camilla. It’s nice to meet you,” she said.

Just like with Clarissa-san, Camilla looked a bit nervous as she gave her greeting. Dietlinde-san didn’t seem to have any prejudice against her, either. I decided it was as good a time as any to give her the cosmetics.

”I have a gift for you, Dietlinde-san. Is now a good time?”

”What is it?” she asked, looking a bit confused.

When I handed her the beauty products, she seemed a little overwhelmed.

”Something this expensive… I wouldn’t even know how to use it,” she said.

”I just happened to come across them, so don’t worry about the price,” I assured her. “As for how to use them, I’ll tell one of the girls from the ‘Yamato Nadeshiko’ party to show you. Back in my old world, everyone used this stuff.”

”…I understand. Thank you very much,” Dietlinde said.

She finally accepted them. She looked exhausted again today, so I cast my ‘Fatigue Recovery Set (Provisional)’ on her.

”Thank you, as always. I don’t have anything to give you in return, but…”

”Don’t worry about it. But, tell you what-how about you go on a date with me sometime?”

The ‘thank-you date’ strategy. I wondered how the usually cool Dietlinde-san would handle that.

”I don’t think a date with me is worth much, but if you’re okay with that, then yes,” she replied.

”Thanks! When are you free?” I asked.

Yes! It worked. Since ‘Yellow Day’² was apparently no good for her, I waited for her to suggest a better time.

”I should be the one thanking you. I’m free four days from now,” Dietlinde said.

”Got it. Let’s do dinner four days from now, then,” I said.

”Understood. Until then,” Dietlinde said before taking her leave.

We’d had a hard time lining up our schedules before, but I’d finally managed to lock in a date.

* * *

Camilla was all smiles and hand-holding on the way back, but as the inn came into view, her mood started to tank. I went to the room to change and spent every spare second I had left giving her my full attention.

”I have to head out soon, but come here for a second,” I said.

 ”Yes!”

I patted my lap and she practically dove into it. I spent until the very last minute petting her and giving her a big hug to cheer her up, which earned me a smile as I left. (Now I see why dating is so hard for single dads…)

Liese was still training with her spear and was just about to eat. I handed her some of the Orc meat I’d roasted yesterday; her face stayed serious, but her tail was going wild. She really does love meat. I gave her a little extra and told her to share it with Camilla.

* * *

Since my date with Clarissa-san was just for dinner, we agreed to meet at the entrance to the shopping district. The fountain square where I usually meet the Gale Party is a bit of a walk from the main street. I’d only been there for a minute when Clarissa-san appeared. Just in time.

 ”Good evening, Daisuke-san,” she said.

Clarissa-san had traded her librarian uniform for private clothes, and she looked stunning. She was wearing a soft, flowy light pink one-piece dress with a cinched waist that really drew the eye to her bust. She’d put more effort into her makeup than she did for work, too; she was a level of beauty above her usual self. If I weren’t already used to being around beautiful women like Ines, I might have just frozen up right there.

”Good evening, Clarissa-san. You look lovely in those clothes,” I said.

”Thank you! It’s all thanks to those things you gave me,” Clarissa-san said with a smile.

Since the cosmetics were so valuable, she was being careful not to mention them too loudly in public.

”You were beautiful to begin with, Clarissa-san,” I said.

”Ufufu, thank you ♡” she replied.

Clarissa-san tended to be self-conscious about her age, but she really was a gorgeous and attractive woman. I made a mental note to keep the compliments coming. She looked genuinely happy to hear it. A beautiful woman’s smile really is something else.

I’d picked a bistro for dinner. I’d asked her preference beforehand, and she’d mentioned that she gets nervous in high-end places. A bistro is a bit more casual than a full restaurant, so I figured we could talk without her feeling too stiff.

”A toast to our first date,” I said.

 ”Cheers!” Clarissa-san replied.

She seemed to handle her liquor well enough. I just hoped she wasn’t a lightweight like Ines. I mean, Ines is cute when she’s tipsy, but I didn’t want my date passing out on the first night.

”You mentioned the ‘Dungeon Upheaval’ was pretty rough. I’m just glad you’re safe,” she said.

”Yeah. We hit several ‘Forced Teleportations.’ Having to stay on high alert that whole time was exhausting. Luckily, it didn’t drag on too long,” I said.

”Come to think of it, you said you took Camilla-chan in because of the upheaval. What exactly happened? I don’t mean to pry, so you don’t have to tell me if it’s a problem,” Clarissa-san said.

”I don’t mind. It started with the second ‘Forced Teleportation’-“

I went ahead and told her the story of how I ended up with Camilla. When I got to the part about the duel, she gave me a stern look. “You shouldn’t go around doing dangerous things like that!” she scolded. Since duels can be fatal, her worry was totally justified. I felt a bit guilty about it.

After that, we talked about the books I’d been reading, her job at the library, and my life as an adventurer. Clarissa-san didn’t seem to know much about how the Guild worked; she was floored when she found out I was a B-Rank adventurer. I guess a B-Rank really does carry some weight in this town.

After a pleasant meal together, I started walking Clarissa-san home. Since this was our first time out, I knew I should probably stay on my best behavior to avoid making her wary, but I couldn’t exactly let her wander the city streets alone at night. (I might as well use the walk to ask her about the things I’ve been wondering. The biggest question, of course, is why a woman like her is still single.)

”Clarissa-san, please forgive me if this is a bit too forward,” I said, “but how is it that a woman as wonderful as you is still unattached?”

”Oh my,” Clarissa-san replied with a playful smile. “Thank you for the compliment. My reason for being single, you ask? It’s a bit of a long story… are you sure you’re up for it?”

”I don’t mind at all,” I told her.

”Well, I was originally the daughter of a merchant,” she began. “Our parents arranged it, but I actually was engaged once.”

According to Clarissa, the families had decided to marry their children off to strengthen their business ties. It had been set in stone since she was a little girl. While she hadn’t been exactly thrilled about it, it was a common enough practice in this world. However, about a year before the wedding-right around her fourteenth birthday-her fiancé’s parents fell victim to a massive fraud. Their business went under, they were buried in debt, and suddenly, a wedding was the last thing on anyone’s mind.

”That’s terrible,” I said. “But you were still so young then, weren’t you?”

”Yes, that’s true,” Clarissa replied. “But even after that, although I managed to get as far as an engagement a few more times, the stars just never seemed to align…”

After that first broken engagement, Clarissa began working as a librarian. Her parents, however, hadn’t given up on the idea of a strategic marriage and brought her several more prospects. She got engaged multiple times, but every single one ended in disaster. It was always something on the man’s side-one was saddled with debt after failing a reckless request from a noble, another gambled away the family business, and another fell gravely ill. Even though she hadn’t done a single thing wrong, the marriages never happened.

”Since the broken engagements kept piling up, my parents finally gave up on trying to marry me off,” she said, her eyes betraying a sense of deep resignation. “I’ve developed this awful reputation as a ‘jinx’ who ruins her suitors. And as for finding love on my own… it’s difficult now that I’m past my prime³.”

(Whether you call it rotten luck or a curse, she’s basically a lightning rod for misfortune.)

”Your parents aren’t trying to push any more proposals on you now, right?” I asked.

”No… sadly, that’s the case,” Clarissa said.

”Well, I feel for you, Clarissa-san, but that sounds like a massive opportunity for me. Since I’m not a merchant, there’s a much lower chance of your parents getting in the way.”

”Oh, thank you!” Clarissa-san giggled. “You’re quite the sweet-talker, even if it is just flattery.”

(Damn, I’m still stuck in the ‘polite flattery’ zone. One gift of cosmetics wasn’t going to be a total game-changer, I guess.)

”It’s not flattery,” I insisted. “If you can give me just one day a month of your time from here on out, I’ll prove it to you. In exchange-though that’s a poor way to put it-I’ll make sure to bring you more of that special gift.”

”Thank you,” she replied. “Hehe, I’ll be looking forward to it.”

I’d managed to secure a promise for a next time, at least. But it still felt a little weak. I decided to push my luck.

”Wait, no hug for me today?”

”Eh?” Clarissa asked, blinking in surprise. “Does being hugged by someone like me actually make you happy?”

”I told you before,” I said. “To me, you’re the idealized ‘big sister’ of my dreams.”

”Fufu… Well then, how about this?” Clarissa-san said as she pulled me into a tight embrace.

Her large breasts pressed against me, yielding with a soft, pillowy warmth. She must have been wearing the cosmetics I gave her, because she smelled faintly of roses. That elegant, blooming scent suited her perfectly.

”Thank you,” I said. “Getting a hug from you really made my night.”

”If it’s just this, I don’t mind doing it anytime,” Clarissa replied. “It’s a small price to pay for your gifts.”

(Score! I just landed ‘unlimited hug rights.’)

”Well then, I’ll take you up on that. One more, please.”

”My, you really do like my hugs, don’t you? Here you go.”

Clarissa looked genuinely happy to be wanted as she held me again. I made sure to fully savor the sensation of her in my arms.

”Thank you,” I told her. “You really are a beautiful, wonderful woman, Clarissa-san. You’re making my heart race.”

”Oh, stop, you’re overdoing it! But… thank you.”

She said I was overdoing it, but she seemed to be in a great mood. Since her house was nearby, we arrived just a few minutes later.

”Thank you for today. I’ll see you next week,” she said.

”Yeah. See you then. So, for the road… can I have one last hug?”

 ”Hehe, of course.”

I savored her one last time before our first date finally came to an end. I got the hug rights and we’re definitely getting closer. I’d call that a win.

 Summary:

Following the Dungeon Upheaval, Daisuke balances his duties by introducing his new slave, Camilla, to his social circle. He spends time researching continental geography at the library with Clarissa before securing a future date with the reserved Dietlinde. The chapter concludes with Daisuke and Clarissa sharing an intimate dinner where he reveals his high adventurer rank.

The protagonist walks Clarissa home after a date, leading to a vulnerable conversation about her past. Clarissa reveals she is single due to a string of bizarre misfortunes that ruined her past fiancés, earning her a ‘jinx’ reputation. The protagonist uses this to his advantage, deepening their bond and securing a recurring ‘hug right’ as a reward for his gifts.

 —

 Trivia:

 - Camilla’s arrested development: Daisuke notes she acts like a 5-10 year old despite being 14, hinting at the severity of her past trauma.

 - Empire Food Crisis: The mention of the Empire’s agricultural struggles and mineral wealth sets up potential future conflict or trade-based plotlines.

 - Information Security: Daisuke’s concern about ‘information leaks’ before visiting the Empire suggests he is wary of his ‘otherworlder’ knowledge being exploited.

 - Water Transport vs. Magic: The reliance on rivers for mass transit highlights the scarcity of high-tier spatial magic users like Daisuke.

 - The mention of ‘that thing’ suggests the protagonist is providing unique, perhaps modern, items that have high value in this world.

 - Clarissa’s ‘unlucky constitution’ might be more than mere coincidence, potentially hinting at a supernatural curse or a plot-relevant mechanic.

 - The protagonist specifically notes his non-merchant status as a way to bypass her parents’ political marriage interests

 —

 Character Insight:

Daisuke’s relationship with Camilla shifts toward a protective, paternal role, though he is wary of public perception. His progress with Dietlinde shows a breakthrough, moving from transactional recovery support to a social date, while his chemistry with Clarissa deepens through mutual aesthetic appreciation and intellectual sharing.

Clarissa shifts from a polite, somewhat distant ‘idealized older sister’ to someone who feels genuinely touched by being ‘wanted’ for herself rather than a business transaction. The protagonist moves from a mere acquaintance to a ‘benefactor’ who has emotional and physical access, symbolized by the ‘unlimited hug rights.’

 —

 Lore And Worldbuilding Context:

The chapter provides a comprehensive layout of the continent: Maultasche as a central trade hub, the landlocked and mountainous Dukedom, the influential Sangster Holy State, and the resource-rich but cold northern Empire. The Elves’ Forest is established as a vast, non-navigable territory without a guide.

The world highly values merchant alliances through political marriage, often decided during childhood. The age of fourteen is a significant milestone for marriage readiness, and social stigma (like being a ‘jinx’) can effectively end a woman’s prospects in the nobility/merchant classes.

 —

 TL Notes:

The term ‘Maultasche’ is likely an intentional reference by the author to German stuffed pasta, fitting a common isekai trope of naming locations after food. ‘Yellow Day’ serves as an example of localized time-keeping distinct from the Gregorian calendar.

The author note reflects on the sudden surge in popularity/points on the web novel platform, a common trope in Narou-style meta-commentary.

 —

 TL Notes:

1 Dungeon Upheaval: A catastrophic event within a dungeon where the internal structure, monster spawns, and floor layouts are radically altered, often causing forced teleportation of delvers.

2 Yellow Day: One of the specific days of the week in the local calendar system.

3 Marriageable Age: Referring to ‘Tekireiki,’ the socially expected window for a woman to marry. In this setting, Clarissa feels she has passed the ideal peak for merchant/political proposals.

He avoids the spotlight, dates Ines, knows modern cosmetics, and juggles multiple relationships while exploring the continent.

• Gerta – B‑Rank adventurer and leader of the Beast Fang party; a towering, muscular beast‑woman over 190 cm tall with golden‑brown, flipping medium hair, jagged teeth, a lion‑like tail and a wild, predatory aura. She wields a greatsword, uses Maten, Magic Blade and Roar, thrives on strength, masochistic in combat and intimacy, and values power above all.

• Ines – 170 cm tall with long green hair, a voluptuous build featuring a large bust, and blue eyes, she exudes a goddess-like smile that masks deep shyness and low self-esteem. As the middle child of five and leader of the Gale Party, she wears a feminine blend of heavy armor and a college-girl aesthetic—often a white short-sleeved blouse with a black long skirt on dates with Daisuke, her first girlfriend and fellow member, to whom she’s deeply affectionate and owes a professional debt. A D-Rank Level 21+ wind-enhanced swordsman, she speaks formally with “sumanai,” drinks lightly for safety, and overheats at praise, blushing and pouting easily. Innocent, naive, fiercely loyal, her tender vulnerability contrasts her warrior gravitas, and her figure carries notable “destructive power”—both in combat and in affection.
