Baseka V1c22

Volume 1 Chapter 22

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

We all teleported to the hut that the maid was using as a temporary base, and we started dividing up the loot.

I heard that the Ghost Knight’s huge spear is packed with a massive amount of magical power, but it’s way too heavy for anyone to swing it properly except me. Still, I already have the ogre’s Battle Axe and Halberd. Looks like it’ll just sit as decoration in the base for a while.

”Hyakudou, lend me your face for a sec.”

I was called behind the hut by the rough-talking Kadora. Mayuki tried to follow, but I stopped her. If he’s moving us to a different spot, he probably wants to talk one-on-one, and having Mayuki around might change the topic.

Once we were alone behind the hut, Kadora suddenly threw a punch at me.

”What the hell was that for?”

I caught his fist head-on. Kadora leaned in close, glaring at me intimidatingly.

”How long are you planning to babysit those girls?”

He lowered his fist but kept his sharp gaze locked on me.

”You’re strong. You don’t need to be looking after weaklings even in Another World.”

 ”What’s that supposed to mean? I’m not…”

”Come with me, Hyakudou. In a world where it’s kill or be killed, trying to protect the weak will just hold you back. You know that much, right?”

 Kadora’s eyes were serious.

”I appreciate the invite, but I’m not looking to be the last one standing.”

”If you want girls, I can get you as many as you want later. Don’t get too attached, Hyakudou.”

”You’re overestimating me, and I don’t think Mayuki and the others are weak.”

We stared each other down in silence for a while.

”Kadora, what’s got you so worked up?”

There was a fierce intensity in his attitude. He’s never been the type to get cozy with others, so there must be a good reason he’s trying to pull me in.

”…The killing has already started. Before I met you guys, I saw 2 groups. One was the president and her crew; they’re on a whole different level. They wiped out Tenri and Kurokado in an instant. I don’t even know if you could beat them.”

…Tenri was supposed to be chasing after Demonkind for revenge, but why were they killed by the president? There must be some kind of circumstances behind it.

”One more thing. That crazy woman brainwashed the guys and was acting like some cult. No doubt you’re on their radar too.”

I have a hunch about which girl might do that. Is she trying to become a real Princess in Another World? Seems like she’s more dangerous than I thought.

”The guy Aoki said he almost got killed by those Kajihira folks, and the enemy isn’t just Demonkind. If you let your guard down, you’ll die. This Island is that kind of place.”

I understood what Kadora was trying to say.

”I appreciate the warning, but I can’t take your offer. I’ll discuss countermeasures with my friends.”

”You’re gonna die a boring death.”

”I’m not looking for a fancy way to die.”

 ”Is that so?”

Kadora spat that out and walked off into the deep forest. It seemed he had no intention of sticking with us.

”Can I say one more thing, Hyakudou?”

Aoki appeared, as if he had been listening from the shadows. He was staring straight at me.

”If only one person could become a Hero… what would you do?”

Is he worried this might be a survival game? According to Hiiragi, at least 3 people seem to have survived, so there’s no need to worry about Aoki’s words. But, there could be a limit on numbers. If only 5 people could become Heroes, once that was revealed, it would be impossible for the whole Class to cooperate.

”In that case… I’d probably consider living permanently on This Island.”

There’s a saying that home is where you live. With ‘Base Magic,’ it’s possible and not that hard. Since my Classmates are here, life wouldn’t be that boring.

Aoki seemed surprised by my answer, then… he smiled.

”I’m relieved. Hyakudou, you’re surprisingly calm.”

”I have some extreme folks in my group. I think it’s just right for me to balance things out.”

* * *

Kadora Akito was walking alone in the forest.

He was using his Dimensional Magic to knock down trees, clearing his path as he went. It started as a way to prevent ambushes, but it had also become a bit of a hobby for him.

(Hyakudou is a monster. It’s a shame I couldn’t make him an ally… but the situation isn’t too bad.)

 Kadora smiled.

(If he’s acting like that, he’s definitely going to clash with the president. The girl praised as a genius and the superhuman born from a world-class athlete. They might as well just kill each other off.)

He had already sown the seeds.

──Kadora had encountered the president twice. The first time they met, it was one-on-one. He had followed her and attack her while she was asleep, but he ended up getting completely wrecked.

Just when he thought he was about to be killed, he had mentioned Hyakudou Koushi’s name. “I was just being controlled by Hyakudou’s Magic, I had no choice,” he had said.

(I pulled a lame move, but thanks to that, things got interesting. I spiced up a boring Deadly Situation, so you should be grateful.)

If the president saw Hyakudou with a girl, she would probably misunderstand and think he was controlling him with Magic, and Hyakudou would be wary of the president who had killed a classmate.

(I can’t stand this lovey-dovey stuff. Now that I’m in Another World, I need to make it a grand kill-fest. You can’t have this kind of experience in reality.)

Kadora was happily walking along, humming to himself… but suddenly, he felt something was off.

(I’m cutting down trees to move forward… so why is it so dark?)

He stopped and looked up. Not only could he not see the sky, but there wasn’t even a single beam of light.

In the pitch-black darkness, Kadora stood still.

”Kadora, thanks for moving away. It makes it easier for me to take care of you.”

It was a familiar voice belonging to a girl. Kashirou Sentou──. Kadora quickly used his Dimensional Magic in the direction of the voice, but there was no response.

”Shit. Is this Hyakudou’s order? Why are they targeting me!”

While unleashing his Magic around, Kadora shouts.

”I can’t be kept in the dark, and I’m not sweet enough to let this slide.”

 ”I’m sorry. Just die already.”

Yodomizu Anri’s instant death Magic activates.

Kadora’s body crumbles to the ground──processed by Hiiragi Tsubaki’s teleportation Magic.

”Instant death Magic is handy since it doesn’t get blood on you.”

 ”Hehe. I like it too.”

”Let’s head back quickly. No need to stick around.”

* * *

After chatting a bit with Aoki, I returned to the Hut, and Yodomizu seemed to be in a good mood.

”You look happy. Did something happen?”

When I asked, Yodomizu replied energetically.

”I worked really hard when I defeated the Demonkind! Can you praise me?”

”Yeah, you did well. Good job.”

 ”Hehe~.”

While patting Yodomizu’s head, I checked the Point History.

 ’Housemate defeated Kadora Akito. +3000pt’

Should I just pretend I didn’t see this?

I can’t help but feel scared of Yodomizu’s bright smile. I mean, you get this many points for killing a classmate?
