Keeping up the appearance of an ordinary classmate at school was more difficult than Basara had expected. He needed to be careful about rumors, yet somehow, despite his best efforts, he ended up becoming friends with the infamous Pervert Trio.
The association earned him a small dent in his reputation. Nothing serious, but people definitely noticed.
Basara did not care.
Much like Aki, he had never been the type to live according to other people’s opinions. He preferred making decisions based on his own judgment. Back when Aki had first watched The Testament of Sister New Devil, that straightforward attitude had been one of the things he admired most about Basara. Whether dealing with enemies or the girls around him, Basara rarely hesitated once he had made up his mind. Compared to Hyoudou Issei’s endless vocal indecision, the difference was night and day. If the heroines had not practically thrown themselves at Issei, his grand harem ambitions would have fallen apart long ago.
Through the Trio, Basara picked up all sorts of information, though most of it revolved around girls. He had no plans to pursue romance at the moment. Between the Hero Clan, his two mothers, and his cousins, he already had more than enough problems to deal with. Still, he was a normal high school boy. Talking about cute girls came naturally. Unlike the Trio, who inevitably tried steering every conversation into questionable territory, Basara usually played dumb and kept things light.
Exactly the same way he did whenever Aki was around.
Smirking, Aki casually hooked an arm around Basara’s shoulders. This was exactly why he respected him. Reliable, levelheaded, and refreshingly normal.
Just as he opened his mouth to continue the conversation, a strange disturbance brushed against his senses.
His expression stiffened.

At almost the same moment, Basara’s eyes sharpened.
”You felt that too?” they asked in perfect unison.
”Power,” Basara muttered, instinctively clenching his right hand. “And not a weak one.”
Although he was still recovering, Banishing Shift’s unusual nature gave him a degree of resistance to temporal interference.
Aki nodded.
Unlike Basara, he had not sensed it through any special ability. Pure instinct had simply screamed that something was wrong.
”Sorry, Basara. We’ll continue this later.”
Whether as a member of the Student Council or a member of Rias Gremory’s peerage, he could not ignore Gasper suddenly activating his Sacred Gear. An uncontrolled time-stop ability was the kind of problem that escalated very quickly.
”Need a hand?” Basara asked.
His sword hand still suffered from occasional tremors, but that had never stopped him from offering help when someone needed it.
Because of Aki’s connection to the Naruse sisters, the two had spent plenty of time together. Their conversations never felt forced, and before long the friendship had become second nature. Even with Aki constantly surrounded by women, Basara still considered him his closest friend.
”I’ve got it. It probably isn’t anything serious.”
At least, that was what Aki hoped.
Kuoh Academy was generally safe. Most likely, Gasper had simply become overwhelmed by his classmates and accidentally lost control of his Sacred Gear.
With that thought in mind, he rushed toward Class 1-F.
The classroom was empty.
Frowning, he expanded his perception and searched for the familiar aura. After a few moments, he finally found it.
At the end of the corridor.
Inside the girls’ restroom.
Rrrring…
The bell rang, and the students of Class 1-F looked up in surprise.
”Huh? Is break over already?”
”Man, that went by fast.”
”Quit talking. Math’s next.”
”Crap. I still haven’t finished my homework.”
”Hey, where’d Vladi go?”
”No idea. He just disappeared.”
Ignoring the chatter, Aki walked straight toward the restroom. The corridors were already beginning to empty as students returned to class. Even if someone spotted him entering the girls’ restroom, he was not particularly concerned. Similar situations had happened often enough in his previous life that the novelty had long since worn off.
Stopping before the last stall, he knocked lightly.
”Gasper.”
Silence.
”I forgot to introduce myself yesterday. Uesugi Aki. Class 2-A. Student Council member and member of the Occult Research Club.”
Several seconds passed before the stall door slowly creaked open.
At first glance, it looked like a timid blonde schoolgirl peeking out from inside.
”W-what do you want with me, mya…”
The soft voice trembled with anxiety.
Aki’s eyebrow twitched.
”Could you… stop saying ‘mya’?”
The cross-dressing itself did not bother him. He had seen enough of that in his previous life to be completely desensitized.
The verbal tic, however, was another matter entirely.
”O-okay.”
Gasper immediately lowered his head.
His slender shoulders trembled, and the crestfallen expression on his pale face made it look as though Aki had personally crushed his dreams.
Letting out a sigh, Aki rubbed the bridge of his nose.
”If you’re this scared, why come to school? You activated your Evil Eye earlier, didn’t you? The entire class got frozen.”
”I-I didn’t mean to.”
Gasper’s voice shrank even further.
”They all crowded around me… and kept touching me. Then one of them tried to lift my skirt, and I panicked…”
Faced with a room full of curious classmates, Gasper had lost control before he even realized what was happening.
The boys had been interested, naturally. A cute blonde transfer student attracted attention anywhere. Most of them, however, had been too intimidated to approach. The girls had proven far more aggressive, and it had not taken long for their enthusiasm to become overwhelming.
”Are you still planning to attend classes?”
After a brief hesitation, Gasper gave a small nod.
”I’m scared… but everyone here seems nice. I want to try.”
Aki studied him for a moment.
He could have asked why Gasper had decided to attend school in the first place, but that was a personal matter.
What mattered now was finding a solution.
”If you’re staying, then a normal classroom isn’t going to work. We’ll need to update your paperwork and school arrangements.”
As the ruler of Kuoh Academy, Rias should have known about Gasper already.
Somehow, she did not.
Aki had been debating whether to bring the matter up. Gasper’s potential was enormous. While he was not particularly enthusiastic about adding more men to Rias’s peerage, a cute blonde trap was…
Acceptable enough.
Judging by the look on Gasper’s face, he had guessed exactly where this conversation was headed.
Another person would learn his secret.
”It’s necessary,” Aki said firmly.
If his power spiraled out of control again, Rias and Sona Sitri would discover the truth sooner or later. At that point, Aki would not be able to hide his involvement anyway.
After a lengthy discussion that mixed practical reasoning with a bit of reassurance, Gasper finally gave in.
The reality was simple.
If he refused to tell Rias himself, Aki would do it for him.
Once classes ended, Aki brought Gasper to the Occult Research Club building.
”Buchou, Akeno-senpai. Good afternoon.”
After exchanging greetings, he briefly explained the situation.
”A mixed-blood vampire…” Rias murmured as she observed the trembling boy hiding in the corner. “I remember hearing about that incident. It caused quite a stir.”
Five years ago, when Gasper’s Sacred Gear first awakened, every major faction had tried to claim him. The incident had drawn attention from all sides, including the vampire family that had cast him out. Then, without warning, he vanished.
Apparently, the Gremory household had hidden him away.
As for why Rias knew so little about the matter, the explanation was simple. The previous Gremory devil assigned to Kuoh Town had betrayed the family and was later hunted down and killed, leaving behind more than a few unresolved problems.
