With Rias acting as the middleman, Aki’s new routine was set. Every day after school, he headed to the Occult Research Club before following Koneko to the “Little Forest” for their private training sessions.
”Training” was a generous term. In reality, it was just Aki getting one-sidedly pummeled by the white-haired loli.
Koneko’s close-quarters combat skills were top-tier, but she was a terrible teacher. She’d never had formal instruction herself; her entire style was built on the innate traits of her Evil Piece and the raw experience of actual combat.
Beyond that, she was a girl of few words-a classic kuudere¹. Of the phrase “leading by word and deed,” she only understood the “deed” part.
That said, she was a remarkably responsible teacher. She was serious and possessed an almost infinite well of patience. If Aki didn’t get it the first time, Koneko would just beat him a few more times until he did.
If he got injured or hit his limit, she’d pop a recovery spell on him and dive right back into the sparring. Aki was living a life of painful bliss.
The beatings hurt like hell, but his growth was visible to the naked eye. With his ability to perfectly control his muscles, his fighting talent was practically a gift from the heavens.
Within just a few days, he was able to parry Koneko’s attacks when their strength and speed were equalized. He could even land the occasional surprise counterattack-though he hadn’t actually managed to hit her yet.
He didn’t slack off over the weekend, either. He treated it like a training camp, heading to school to train with Koneko both days. To focus on him, Koneko had even put her usual contracts and requests on hold, letting the other members pick up the slack.

Then came Monday. Shinra Tsubaki and Shitori Sona sent word that the results of the investigation were in.
”Aki-chan, let’s take a break from training today,” Rias said. She stopped Aki just as he was about to head toward the Little Forest after his usual greetings.
”President, can we please do something about that name…?” Aki asked.
Over the last few days, his relationship with Rias had grown closer, and at some point, she’d started calling him by the cutesy nickname “Aki-chan.”
Maybe it was because he was younger, or because of his delicate features, or the fact that he was only 170cm-shorter than Rias’s 172cm. Before his abilities awakened, he hadn’t even hit the 170cm mark. Honestly, if he put on a dress, he’d be prettier than most girls.
Early on, Aki had lived in constant terror that he might be forced down a mesuochi² plotline; he’d lost sleep over it for days. Back then, he lacked the strength to fight the influence of his “victim template,” which kept him short and slight. But as his power grew, he began to break free.
He’d finally cleared 170cm and his muscle mass had increased. He wasn’t exactly masculine yet, but at least he didn’t have to worry about accidentally “falling.” Besides, he was only sixteen; he still had plenty of time to grow.
Because Rias kept calling him “Aki-chan,” Akeno and Koneko had followed suit. However, after some rigorous discipline, the Takamine sisters had stopped using the nickname. They called him “Master” now-both in the bedroom and out of it.
His status in the house had only recently shifted from “lowly brother” to “emperor,” and yet here he was, about to start another round of enduring humiliation with the club members.
But what could he do? He was beholden to them. He wasn’t officially Rias’s servant yet, but she treated him like one of her own peerage. More importantly, he couldn’t actually beat a single one of them in a fight. All he could do was complain while his body stayed obedient.
Even Koneko, who was a few months younger than him, acted the part of the teacher and called him Aki-chan with an air of unearned seniority. As it turned out, the most effective way to build a relationship really was physical exchange. It wasn’t the bedroom kind yet, but getting his chest hammered by Koneko’s small fists every day had caused their relationship to warm up fast.

Aki had been laying it on thick-showering her with care, acting as her gentle confidant, and leveraging his handsome face alongside the natural attraction of his template. Koneko, the pseudo-kuudere loli, was seeing her affection levels for him skyrocket. She’d told him almost everything.
The only things she kept secret were the truth about her older sister, Kuroka, and the origin of her name. Her original name was Shirane. After she became Rias’s servant, Rias gave her the name Koneko. The surname Toujou was chosen for its “Rook” meaning. The “Koneko” part was even simpler-she was a cat-spirit.
Aki figured give it another week… maybe two at most. He’d definitely be able to trick Koneko into his bed and have her crying for mercy.
Rias ignored Aki’s grumbling and smiled. “We’ve identified the person targeting you.”
”Really?!” Aki asked. He forgot all about his protest and ran over to her. “Who is it? Was it that blonde punk youkai?”
”Oh, so you do remember. I thought you’d been so busy flirting with Koneko these past few days that it slipped your mind.”
Aki remained silent.
He had almost forgotten, but it was because he was obsessed with training, not flirting!
Rias stopped teasing him. “It’s Oida Taisei. Your intuition was actually spot on.”
”I knew it!” Aki replied. “That bleached-blonde bastard. He looks like a total scumbag with that rat-like face. I knew he wasn’t up to any good.”
”You just got lucky with a guess,” Rias said. “Without the account details and transaction records Hakada Tetsuya provided, we wouldn’t have had any evidence to move against him.”
”It wasn’t a guess! I had evidence!”
”What evidence?” Rias asked.
”Just look at that bleached-blonde hair! The moment I saw his photo, I was 100% sure it was him…”
Rias’s ears were practically growing calluses from hearing him talk about it. No matter how he phrased it, it was still just a gut feeling. She rolled her eyes at him, not bothering to argue.
She’d noticed Aki had a massive chip on his shoulder regarding anyone with blonde hair. Kiba Yuuto had visited the club a few times recently, and Aki’s attitude toward him was worlds apart from how he treated Koneko. Rias suspected it was purely because Kiba Yuuto had that head of short, stylish blonde hair.
Aki really didn’t like Kiba, but it was mostly because the guy seemed like he might be gay. Plus, Kiba wasn’t a cute girl, so there was no chance of farming Talents from him. If he had a choice, he wished it wasn’t Kiba Yuuto, but a “Kiba Yuuko.”
In the official art, a female version of Kiba existed, but there was zero story to go with it. Aki had no idea why the official creators had even drawn it in the first place.
