Hyoudou Issei stammered for what felt like an eternity. He couldn’t bring himself to admit he’d been cornered and thrashed because he’d been caught peeping.
Aki let out a silent sigh. The poor kid couldn’t even tell a lie to save his life; no wonder he got played at every turn.
”I saw those girls ganging up on two other guys earlier, shouting something about perverts…” Aki decided to throw him a lifeline, unable to watch him squirm any longer. “Were you just passing by and got mistaken for one of their cronies?”
Hyoudou Issei’s eyes snapped wide, and he nodded fervently. “Yes! Exactly! That’s it!”
He didn’t even pause to consider the logic – like who was actually standing closest to the “crime scene.” He was too desperate to see through such an obvious out.
”…”
Aki was momentarily speechless. (Well, I guess this is fine. Simple-minded kids are easier to manipulate… Wait, I mean easier to bond with.)
”Do you know those two creeps who were peeping?” Aki asked, tossing out a casual topic to keep the momentum going.
The question triggered a memory for Hyoudou. They had all been in it together, but Matsuda and Motohama hadn’t just bolted and left him behind – they’d actually shoved him down to secure their own escape, leaving him with zero chance to run. The sheer indignation he felt toward those two “shitty friends” completely overrode his fear of Aki.
”No way! I don’t know shameless voyeurs like that!” Hyoudou Issei declared with a face full of righteous fury, appearing to have genuinely scrubbed his own involvement from his memory.
Suppressing the urge to roll his eyes, Aki played along. “Yeah, peeping is pretty bottom-tier behavior. If you like a girl, you should just man up and go after her.”
Hyoudou looked at Aki with naked envy. “Uesugi-kun, I heard a rumor that you have several girlfriends… Is that actually true?”
In reality, Hyoudou Issei didn’t fear Aki as a person as much as he feared the supernatural. Any normal human would feel a pang of dread when facing a power that could snuff them out on a whim. But now that he realized Aki didn’t seem to have any actual beef with him, his lecherous curiosity had completely evicted the last of his fear.
Aki gave a modest, slightly embarrassed smile. “Those are just rumors. Total exaggerations. I don’t actually have a girlfriend.”
”I knew it! There’s no way someone could be dating multiple smokeshows at the same time.” Hyoudou Issei slapped Aki on the shoulder, his tone encouraging. “Don’t sweat it, man. I’m sure you’ll land one before graduation – “
”They’re just my fuck buddies.”
Hyoudou’s hand froze. His face cycled through a spectrum of white and red before finally locking into a look of pure, unadulterated bitterness.
”Fu… fuck buddies?” He stared at Aki with a toxic mix of envy and disbelief. “Like… the kind of ‘fuck buddies’ I’m thinking of?”
Aki blinked, delivering the most devastating blow with a perfectly innocent expression. “Yeah. You know, a man and a woman, just a physical thing. No strings attached.”
Hyoudou’s eyes turned bloodshot with jealousy. He lunged forward, grabbing Aki’s arms in a fit of tragic despair. “Dammit! Why?! Why can’t I even get one girlfriend?!”

”It’s fine, man. I told you, I don’t have a girlfriend either.”
Hyoudou’s grief only intensified. “But you have a harem of fuck buddies! And they’re all gorgeous girls with massive racks!”
”Not all of them. Shinomura Yuki and Senior Tsubaki¹ are actually pretty average.”
Seeing Aki’s dead-serious evaluation, Hyoudou Issei slowly let go and backed away. He looked emotionally exhausted. He didn’t want to be anywhere near this “winner in life” anymore.
”Hyoudou-kun, let’s catch up later.”
Sensing the kid wasn’t terrified of him anymore, Aki took his leave. There wasn’t much else to do anyway. The Boosted Gear² would eventually choose Hyoudou, but right now, Aki couldn’t even tell if the boy had been inhabited yet. He certainly couldn’t figure out how to strip it away or “snipe” the sacred gear³ before it bonded.
He wondered what method that Fallen Angel from his memories – the one who’d disguised herself as Amano Yuuma to play with Hyoudou’s heart – had used to detect Sacred Gears. If it was a Talentability, Aki might have to track her down for a “chat.” But he didn’t even know if it was an ability, let alone where she was hiding.
He sighed. As much as it galled him, he’d have to put his plans for the Longinus on ice for now.
”Uesugi-kun, wait up!” As Aki turned to go, Hyoudou Issei scurried forward, looking grave. “We’re… we’re basically friends now, right?”
”Sure. Why not?”
”Then… could you teach me how to get a girlfr – I mean, how to get a fuck buddy?”
Aki spread his hands helplessly. “It’s not that I’m holding out on you… It’s just that, honestly, they’re the ones who usually find me.”
Although he had later taken the initiative with Shinra Tsubaki and Himejima Akeno – and he was already eyeing Rias and Shitori Sona – at the beginning, it really had been them coming to him with all sorts of “perks” and propositions.
Hyoudou Issei’s hopeful face turned to stone. He looked like he’d physically turned into gray ash. The answer had twisted the knife right in his gut.
To save the friendship before it crumbled entirely, Aki offered a parting word of comfort. “Look, Hyoudou, you’re not a bad-looking guy. If you just toned down the personality a bit, you’d probably have no trouble getting a cute girlfriend.”
Hyoudou waved a limp hand in dismissal, looking utterly defeated. Compared to his two bottom-tier friends, he did have decent looks and a solid build. He knew deep down that his over-the-top horniness was a girl-repellent, but actually toning it down? If he could do that, he wouldn’t be in this mess.
As Aki walked away, he cast one last look at Hyoudou’s arm, feeling a twinge of regret. (I need to get some support-type talents on the schedule ASAP. If I had a tracking or surveillance ability, I could monitor Hyoudou’s status 24/7. Relying on luck like this is useless.)

Since he couldn’t squeeze any more “destiny” out of the male lead for now, Aki decided to stick to the plan and go find the heroine. He doubled back toward the Kendo Club. He hadn’t gone a hundred yards before he ran into yet another familiar face.
”Uesugi-kun, morning.”
Sakuramachi Touko was clutching a stack of notebooks. Her expression was perfectly professional, but the words coming out of her mouth were anything but.
”It’s been over a week. Vice President Shinra has had her fill of fun… isn’t it about my turn?”
Being a Succubus, she could “scent” the lingering aura on him. It was exactly as she’d suspected; Shinra Tsubaki had used the excuse of “official business” to get Aki into bed. And by the smell of it, she was trying to claim him as her personal plaything. Sakuramachi Touko was fuming, but as a low-level Succubus, she didn’t have the stones to pick a fight with the Student Council.
Finally, she’d caught Aki alone.
Aki stopped in his tracks. He’d only been heading to the Kendo Club to flirt with Miyajima Sakura and see if he could snag a sword-related talent. Why did “destiny” keep falling into his lap on the way?
The first opportunity today had been too big for him to swallow. But this second one? He wasn’t going to be shy.
”Good morning, Sakuramachi-san.” Aki gave her a warm greeting, matching her bluntness. “It’s not that I was avoiding you. You just left in such a hurry last time, you forgot to give me your number.”
Sakuramachi Touko remained stone-faced. “I’m in the class right next to yours. Finding me shouldn’t have been a Herculean task.”
”Then why didn’t you come find me?” Aki asked. He wasn’t going to play games with her. He wanted her talent, and she wanted his ability and essence.
”I wanted to, but lately you’ve been glued to either the Vice President or the Vice Captain of the Occult Research Club.” Sakuramachi Touko let out a cold snort, her eyes sharp as glass. “A regular student like me couldn’t even get a word in edgewise.”
”Uh…” Aki was at a loss for words. He’d been so busy he’d barely seen Hamazaki Reina, let alone a Succubus he’d only met once. To be honest, if he hadn’t used her as “mental material” a few times, he might have forgotten she existed entirely.
”Sakuramachi-san, I’ve been buried in work lately. I only just got a breather today – “
”I don’t need explanations.” Sakuramachi Touko gave her glasses a sharp nudge. “I only have one question… Will you walk me home after school today?”
Aki smirked. “Absolutely. And if you’re feeling impatient, we could hit the infirmary, the equipment shed, or the rooftop right now.”
”I’ve waited this long; I can handle another half-day.” A faint flush colored her pale, cool cheeks. She licked her lip, her eyes suddenly burning with a seductive hunger. “I expect you to make it worth my while tonight.”
”As you wish.” Aki gave a mock-theatrical bow, like a knight accepting a quest.
