Volume 13 Chapter 10 Lesta Chooses the Minimal Sacrifice
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”The report indicates that the harvest will yield less than ten percent of our usual supply.”
”How can that be?” King Kaito’s voice rang out, heavy with disbelief. “The latest report suggested we were on track for a standard harvest…”
In a secret council meeting within the Lesta Kingdom, the King and Queen were joined by the high-ranking officials—most notably the Prime Minister, Barklem Duke—as well as the prince and princesses.
”At this rate,” the Prime Minister stated with cold, bureaucratic precision, “if we set aside enough for next year’s planting, there will be almost nothing left.”
”Are you telling me,” Prince Mist muttered, his voice tight, “we will have nothing but fish to eat through the long winter…?”
As a nation with a landscape dominated by mountainous terrain, the Lesta Kingdom had very little land suitable for agriculture. While the country was surrounded by the sea, the coastline consisted of steep cliffs, leaving very few spots suitable for building functional fishing ports. Because of this, the Lesta Kingdom’s primary source of foreign currency had always been its Courtesans—women who traveled to other nations to sell their bodies to sustain the national economy.
”To think,” Eileen whispered, her shoulders slumped, “that the great famine I spoke of would become reality…”
”I, too, prayed that it would never come to pass,” Naje replied softly. She gently stroked Eileen’s green hair, attempting to soothe her sister’s distress. “It is not your fault, Eileen.”
”Besides,” Eileen added with a hollow gaze, “it is happening one year earlier than it did in my memories.”
”What is done is done, and there is no use dwelling on the timing,” King Kaito said, his tone grim. “The issue now is how we deal with it…”
Kaito, the father to both, was a man who had managed to hold the poorest kingdom in the world together by the skin of his teeth. However, he had only one idea left. He glanced at his beloved wife, Mira, who sat beside him; she met his gaze and nodded, understanding exactly what he meant.
”In Eileen’s memories, we chose to surrender and then committed suicide by poison,” Mira said, her voice eerily calm. “Our bodies were sent to the Seron Duchy and displayed alongside Naje and the others after they were executed. Isn’t that right?”
”Yes…” Eileen breathed. “That is correct…”
”Then we are trying to grasp a much brighter future than that, Kaito,” Mira insisted, her voice forced and bright. Everyone in the room understood the gravity of the decision. After all, the very thing that had sustained the long history of the Lesta Kingdom was the sexual techniques of its women.
”Naje, Eileen,” Mira continued, looking at her daughters. “I, too, shall accompany you to become concubines of Emperor Quvar.”
”Understood, Mother,” Naje replied, her tone sharp and military. “I leave the country in your hands, Elder Brother.”
”Aye,” Mist murmured, his expression one of deep agony. “Forgive me, Naje…”
For a Queen and her princesses to voluntarily sell themselves to another nation’s Emperor was, to an outsider, an insane judgment. But given the reality of the great famine Eileen remembered, it was the only logical conclusion.
”Countless citizens will starve to death,” Naje said, her voice devoid of emotion. “They will cross the Bakdu Fortress over mountains of corpses, and most of them will end up as soldiers dying in battle or as slaves. Compared to that, our becoming Emperor Quvar’s s*x slaves is a trivial price to pay.”
”Mother,” Naje added, turning to the Queen. “I intend to have Amira and Tymis accompany us as well.”
Naje mentioned the names of her adjutant and her personal guard, looking to Eileen for confirmation.
”Takumi Nasu-dono, who became Emperor Quvar, raped me before my execution,” Naje stated bluntly. “However, Amira and Tymis were gang-raped by the people of Seron. Am I correct?”
”I didn’t see it happen directly…” Eileen replied, her voice trembling. “But that is what I heard from Chinatsu-san and Shion.”
”Then he will surely be interested in the two of them, as he has yet to taste their bodies,” Naje concluded. “It is a pity, but I have already received their consent to divorce their husbands should they be taken into his harem.”
Naje led the meeting, speaking with the cold, ruthless judgment of a general. Her talent for command, which had served her well as the vice-commander of the Fourth Army in the Ghost Army, was undeniable. She showed no hesitation in her decisions, reinforced as they were by Eileen’s memories. Moreover, in Lesta, those women who risked their own bodies held the strongest political voice.
”According to information obtained from McGaref,” the Prime Minister reported, “Lady Natalie is no longer working as a Courtesan; she has become a favored concubine of Takumi Nasu-dono. She has likely already relocated to the Quvar Imperial Capital.”
”Oh,” Queen Mira breathed, “Natalie-sama has already gone that far…”
”If the four of us royals, including Natalie-sama, provide our sexual services…” Mira mused, “I am certain he will be pleased.”
”To secure passage through the Bakdu Fortress to the Seron Duchy,” the Prime Minister continued, “I will first send an envoy with a congratulatory message via open magic communication.”
As she listened to the Prime Minister, Barklem Duke, explain the plan, Naje voiced a doubt she had been harboring.
”By the way, Eileen. Has your body always been this mature?”
Her breasts and the curves of her hips had clearly undergone a transformation into those of a grown woman. It was an unnatural growth, yet because their perception was being clouded, they could only view it as a slightly strange phenomenon.
”That’s right, Sister,” Eileen replied, touching her chest. “Actually, my first period started this morning… Clarice-chan’s did, too. But I’m glad. Now my body is one that Takumi-sama can use.”
”I see,” Naje said. “Then, together with me, we shall offer our virginity lewdly. It is our mission to receive as much aid from him as possible.”
”Natalie,” Queen Mira asked, “is that Clarice going to accompany us as well?”
Naje shook her head. “No. She is a valuable military asset who is expected to grow into the ‘Witch of Plenty.’ Besides, that child is more… charming than she is sexual.”
Naje displayed a rare, wry smile as she recalled Clarice, who was currently busy crunching on a snack. (She’ll probably start saying she wants to go abroad just because she wants sweets, so I must discipline her strictly.)
However, the reply to the communication sent to the Quvar Imperial Capital arrived: “The congratulatory envoy is to head to McGaref. Furthermore, in addition to the personnel proposed, ensure that Clarice accompanies them as well.”
By mentioning the name of the ‘Witch of Plenty’ Clarice, who was not yet known to other nations, the Lesta Kingdom became certain that Takumi Nasu also possessed memories of the previous timeline.
And this realization was shared by the Memory Holders of other nations who had intercepted the unencrypted communication.
Princess Nyx of the Seron Duchy.
Scaya and Rusty, who were rushing toward McGaref.
And… the ‘Witch of the Turning Heavens,’ Livia, would soon harbor those same suspicions.
