Volume 13 Chapter 13 Takumi-kun Performs the Kaishaku

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

We moved to the underground training grounds. Meruru set up a thick magic barrier around the arena. I was standing outside it. I had a bad stomachache. I really wanted a break from this.

The pseudo-Rira princess — the woman who called herself Rira, ranked 6th, known as the “Crusher of All Things” — and Chinatsu-chan, who was carrying Chisame, were facing each other inside the barrier. These battle junkies were completely ready to kill one another.

The pseudo-Rira wore a combat uniform. It was not a sash, but a belt. It looked like a karate gi. I think someone from our group must have made it popular in the past.

”Ufufu, what a wonderful arena, wouldn’t you agree?” the pseudo-Rira said. Her voice was calm and elegant. “I am grateful to Your Majesty.”

”Ehehe… Takkun, watch me, okay?” Chinatsu-chan said. Her voice was bubbly, like an idol.

Both of them were smiling. But neither smile reached their eyes. A princess ranked 6th was about to fight a cursed blade — a weapon with its own evil will — with her bare hands. That alone was already insane.

In this world where Skills are everything, the strongest person’s weapon besides the witch was hand-to-hand combat. No one would believe it. In my class, Aria had the Martial Arts Skill, but it was too dangerous. I did not let her explore labyrinths. Besides, fighting while her M-cups bounced around was dangerous in a different sense.

”Ara, Takumi-sama,” the princess said. Her voice dripped with aristocratic elegance. “If you are curious about my breasts, would you like to watch the match while receiving my service?”

”Eh, was I staring at Meruru?” I asked.

”I was being violated by your gaze♡” Meruru replied in her usual flat, formal tone.

It seemed I had been staring at her chest without meaning to. Girls are sensitive to stares. But considering her alias, “Crusher of All Things,” and her absurd rank, she was probably more dangerous than any famous sword.

”Then, I will carve out your insides, okay?♡” Chinatsu-chan chirped. She had an unsettling, energetic grin.1

”How many bones would you like to hear break?” the pseudo-Rira retorted. Her voice was icy and polite.

These are not conversations for beautiful girls to have.

”Well then, let us kill each other,” Chinatsu-chan said.

”Yes, let us kill each other,” the princess agreed.

 That was the signal.

Chinatsu-chan entered her usual stance — a quick-draw sword technique called iai. The next instant, an invisible flying slash seemed to rip through the air.

To be honest, my eyes could not keep up. From the sound alone, it reminded me of the time Weed-san had his head blown off in a single stroke.

But the pseudo-Rira had dodged it. Just barely.

”Areee? Weed-san got his head chopped off by this, though,” Chinatsu-chan said. She shrugged playfully.

”Well, that is too bad for you,” the pseudo-Rira replied smoothly.

The stone floor was gouged out like tofu. The pseudo-Rira planted her feet and moved forward with unbelievable speed. I thought she was about to strike — but she backstepped and returned.

”Uhyooo, that is some amazing Rira power,” Chinatsu-chan giggled. “But why didn’t you come at me?”

”I sensed that you were laying a trap,” the princess answered.

”It seems you are in the realm of masters, then,” Chinatsu-chan remarked.

A ghastly smile floated on Chinatsu-chan’s face. That smile meant she was getting serious.

”Then, I shall show you mine next,” the princess announced.

The pseudo-Rira threw a straight punch from where she stood. It felt like an air cannon — similar to Chinatsu-chan’s attacks. Then I heard an unpleasant sound from Chinatsu-chan.

 ”Ugh…!” Chinatsu-chan groaned.

”Ara, I intended to crush your heart, but it was only your ribs,” the pseudo-Rira said with a polite smile. “That is one point.”

She was opening and closing her fist. She looked happy.

”You are also quite the cheat-like one, aren’t you?” Chinatsu-chan laughed.

”Cheat? Well, that sounds like a compliment,” the pseudo-Rira mused.

I did not understand what was happening. Weed-san, who usually explained things in moments like this, was sitting on the other side with his arms crossed. I could not ask him.

”Meruru, did you understand what she did?” I asked.

”The possibility is a momentary positional shift of the fist… but it seems slightly different,” Meruru replied.

But there seemed to be a restriction. She could not perform rapid-fire attacks. Chinatsu-chan, who had parried the pseudo-Rira’s rush and kept distance with a slash from Chisame, wiped the blood from her mouth.

”It seems you crush whatever you want to crush, pseudo-Rira-san,” Chinatsu-chan said.

”Ara. You are the only one who saw through this at first glance, Chinatsu-sama,” the princess conceded.

I did not know what it meant. But Chinatsu-chan seemed to have figured out the trick. She was firing off rapid, invisible slashes to keep her distance. But she was breathing hard. She looked pained.

”Did a broken rib pierce your lung?” the pseudo-Rira asked calmly.

”Seems like it,” Chinatsu-chan replied breathlessly.

”If you surrender, I will blow that pretty face of yours away and kill you instantly,” the princess offered. Her voice was aristocratically cold.

The pseudo-Rira had an air of confidence. She clearly had the upper hand. I never thought Chinatsu-chan would struggle this much… Weird saliva was coming out, and the inside of my mouth was tingling.

”After that… if you would like, I will defile you and make you fulfill your duty as the loser,” the princess added. “Since it would be awkward to let Weed-sama violate the concubine of the Emperor, Your Majesty.”

Saying that, the pseudo-Rira swung her right fist. With an explosion, I could feel that Chinatsu-chan’s slash had been crushed. No — that was ridiculous. How could someone crush a slash with bare hands?

 ”Arara, that’s amazing,” Chinatsu-chan chuckled.

”Could this be… are you fighting using only the ‘Weapon Enhancement’ Skill?” the princess asked.

 ”That’s right,” Chinatsu-chan confirmed.

In a world where Skills are everything, Chinatsu-chan fought with Weapon Enhancement — a Skill everyone considered garbage. That made her an extremely strange existence. The pseudo-Rira showed surprise for a moment. Then she returned to her serious look.

”Well, I respect that,” the princess said. “A wonderful display of Martial Arts. In that case, I must show you not my Skill, but my Martial Arts.”

 The pseudo-Rira’s figure vanished.

The next moment, Chinatsu-chan deflected a heel drop delivered from high above with the belly of Chisame. The pseudo-Rira slid in close and unleashed a reverse diagonal slash from bottom to top.

But the pseudo-Rira crossed her arms to block it. She fired a knee kick from point-blank range.

Every time they clashed, the barrier shook hard.

 ”A beautiful battle…” Meruru said.

Even without listening to Meruru’s impression, even a layman like me could tell this was a contest of highly advanced techniques.

The pseudo-Rira deflected a low slash that crawled along the ground with her fist. A low kick roared.

She twisted her waist to dodge by a paper-thin margin. She countered by thrusting the hilt into the other’s chin.

While jumping backward, she swung her right fist. An invisible shockwave grazed her left shoulder.

She swept with Chisame horizontally and fired three consecutive flying slashes.

The third strike — the one that could not be crushed — tore the pseudo-Rira’s combat uniform. It exposed her beautiful chest. But she continued to fight without caring.

Every time fist and blade crossed, explosions of magic power scattered like sparks.

 However, the highlight ended easily.

”Well, it’s a draw, isn’t it? But as an audience, it’s boring unless one of us dies, right?” Chinatsu-chan said.

”Yes, I completely agree,” the princess replied. “Let us settle this quickly. I will continue to keep my Skill restricted to the same level as you, Chinatsu-sama.”

Chinatsu-chan sheathed Chisame. The pseudo-Rira, with her volleyball-sized chest exposed, crossed her arms in an X and did some light stretching.

”Are you trying to increase your excuses for when you lose?” Chinatsu-chan giggled.

”It is the pride of a warrior,” the princess said with dignity.

”I know, sorry about that,” Chinatsu-chan apologized.

Once again, killing intent raced and crossed like lightning.

”It appears both of them have switched to ignoring defense simultaneously,” Meruru noted.

The pseudo-Rira’s fist struck Chinatsu-chan’s left shoulder directly. An unpleasant sound like breaking green wood echoed. Chinatsu-chan’s body slammed against the stone wall.

 ”Guh…! Haa, it hurts…♡” Chinatsu-chan moaned.

With blood flowing from her limp left arm, Chinatsu-chan let out a meltingly sweet voice.

”Do you perhaps feel pleasure in pain?” the princess asked curiously.

 ”Yeah, because I’m a total M pervert♡ Then, it’s my turn next,” Chinatsu-chan laughed.

Using pleasure as fuel, Chinatsu-chan’s madness accelerated. The Chisame in her right hand rattled with joy, and the blade turned a dark, bloody red.

Step in, cut. Don’t dodge, punch.

There was no more reading or evasion. It was pure violence — stripping flesh and crushing bones. Chisame tore into the pseudo-Rira’s skin. Entrails spilled out from her white stomach. The pseudo-Rira’s kick struck Chinatsu-chan’s side and blew the flesh away.

”Ahahahaha! This is the best, Chinatsu-sama!” the princess screamed with delight.

”Ehehe, even if I die, it’s more fun than when we were with Bell-chan!” Chinatsu-chan shrieked.

A space filled with madness, laughing together while covered in blood.

My headache was at Mach speed. Even with the promise of resurrection, watching cute girls kill each other in real time was not good for my mental health.

Eventually, after an exchange of fatal wounds, both of them stopped moving.

”…Fufu, cough. My entrails have been quite destroyed. I’m going to die in about an hour,” the princess said. She spoke with elegant detachment while pushing back the entrails spilling from the wound in her abdomen and coughing up blood.

”For me… I feel like I’ll die in about three hours,” Chinatsu-chan answered. She grinned while dragging her crushed left leg and nearly severed left arm.

”Then, it’s my loss,” the princess said.

”Yeah, this time it is,” Chinatsu-chan agreed.

”It seems they judged it themselves to avoid any remote possibility of failed resurrection due to mutual kills,” Meruru explained.

However… although the people involved seemed satisfied, it really was a desperate fight to the death. Even being told that Chinatsu-chan won, when I looked at her fatal wounds… no, I cannot. Do not think.

The pseudo-Rira, who had her upper body bared to be decapitated, straightened her posture. She offered her neck and looked at me with a smile.

”Then, Your Majesty. I ask for the virgin defilement of the loser after resurrection.”

”Then, I will perform the kaishaku, okay?” Chinatsu-chan said.

Kaishaku — the act of performing a mercy beheading to end someone’s suffering. It was a duty given to a trusted person. Chinatsu-chan wanted me to do it.

Without the slightest hesitation, Chinatsu-chan swung Chisame with only her right arm.

Princess Rira’s beautiful neck danced in the air. Her headless torso slowly collapsed forward along with a spray of blood. But it immediately turned into particles of light and vanished — the resurrection process at the church. Since Priest Korn and Shion-chan were on standby, she should be able to resurrect without issue.

”Then, I will release the barrier,” Meruru said.

Chinatsu-chan collapsed onto the blood-stained floor. She turned her face — splashed with blood — toward me and gave her usual “ehehe” smile.

”Thanks to Takumi-kun’s cheering, you know♡”

”Chinatsu-chan, you won this time too,” I said.

”It was basically a mutual kill, though… thanks, okay,” she replied.

Chinatsu-chan grabbed Chisame with her right hand — the only one that still worked — and held it out toward me.

”Hey, Takumi-kun. Don’t hold back,” she whispered.

I caught my breath. The poison magic that Livia-sensei had planted would whisper to me whenever I found an opportunity: rape them, kill them, destroy the country.

”I’ll die even if you leave me be… so wouldn’t it be kinder to just finish me off?” she asked.

The hilt of Chisame was gripped in my hand. It rapidly grew accustomed to me. It felt like the sword was teaching me — how to end a life. Make it easy for her.

”I want my beloved Takumi-kun to perform the kaishaku,” she pleaded.

*Kaishaku… to be done… by Takumi-kun… I’m sorry, but at least, I want to be killed by the one I love…*

The memories of the First Emperor flashed back. In the dark passage of the labyrinth, Chinatsu-chan — who had been poisoned — had asked me for kaishaku. Chinatsu-chan had no memory of that. But I did. And now I was being asked by the same person to kill her again.

*Am I destined to walk the same path as that guy…?*

But it was also a fact that if I did not perform kaishaku on Chinatsu-chan, she would continue to suffer. It was difficult to heal this level of damage even with healing magic. Ending her life and resurrecting her was the most reasonable choice.

Asking Meruru or Weed-san to do it would be cowardly.

 ”I’m sorry, Chinatsu-chan,” I said.

I held back my trembling and stood behind her. I placed the tip of Chisame against her slender neck.

”No, no. To have kaishaku performed by Takumi-kun, I am happy…♡” she whispered.

With an ecstatic smile, Chinatsu-chan closed her eyes.

I took a deep breath… and swung Chisame.

 ”…Gobo.”

Chisame’s sharp blade cut through Chinatsu-chan’s flesh, slid along the bone, and severed her neck.

The vivid sensation went straight through my hand into the hilt. The weight of swinging the sword. The slimy resistance when life spills out. I must not forget this.

As the ruler of McGaref who had ordered people to be killed, I had no right to feel guilt. I had made Chinatsu-chan, Haruka-chan, and Ginga-kun kill people too.

”I performed the kaishaku properly, Chinatsu-chan,” I murmured.

The words did not reach Chinatsu-chan. She had collapsed with a heavy thud. The decapitated head and the body turned into particles of light and vanished, just like the pseudo-Rira from earlier.

*To think that I, who started wars and assassinated people, would have these feelings now…*

For a while, I stood there, gripping Chisame stained with both of their blood.

 Summary:

Chinatsu and the pseudo-Rira princess engage in a brutal, ritualistic battle to the death within a magic barrier, reveling in the violence. Following the mutual infliction of fatal wounds, the princess allows herself to be beheaded by Chinatsu, who subsequently asks Takumi to perform the final mercy kill (kaishaku) on her. Takumi, burdened by the memory of his past atrocities, ultimately yields to the request and beheads Chinatsu with her own sword, Chisame.

 —

 Trivia:

The princess’s karate-style combat uniform was popularized by the protagonist’s group in the past.

Chinatsu’s sword, Chisame, vibrates with ‘joy’ when it kills or is used in combat, turning dark red.

Resurrection is a standard procedure in this world, facilitated by figures like Priest Korn and Shion-chan.

The protagonist, Takumi, carries the traumatic memory of having performed kaishaku on Chinatsu in a past life when she was poisoned in a labyrinth.

The ‘Weapon Enhancement’ Skill is generally considered a weak/garbage skill, making Chinatsu’s prowess with it highly irregular.
