Volume 1 Chapter 21 A Special Girl Is Not Needed★.Txt

Hikari-chan arrived at my room exactly on time. The slightly airheaded Chinatsu-chan and the reliable Hikari-chan always balanced each other well, but today, Chinatsu-chan wasn’t by her side. It felt like she had decided to quietly support from a distance.
”I’m embarrassed, can I come in?” Hikari-chan asked, fidgeting at the doorway.
”Y-yeah…” I replied, nodding awkwardly.
She stood there in a unique costume—not a school uniform like I had expected, but a carefully chosen outfit that hugged her figure. It wasn’t flashy, but it was unusual enough to feel important, like something worn on stage during a performance. The contrast between Hikari-chan’s usual calm self and this version of her left my mind spinning.
”You look really cute,” I said, my voice cracking just a little.
”I’m glad,” Hikari-chan replied, holding her hands together in front of her. “Actually, I asked Kahoru-chan to help. The kind lady from the costume shop where I used to work lent me this.”
”You came to my room wearing that on purpose?”
”Yeah,” she said with a bashful nod. “I wanted to show that I’m ready to become Takumi-kun’s girl… I wasn’t sure if you’d like something this bold, so I asked for advice…”
”No, it’s not that. I’m really happy, Hikari-chan,” I said, my voice full of honesty.
I had assumed she’d wear something like Chinatsu-chan’s traditional uniform, something safe. But she had chosen this outfit to show her feelings, and that made it far more powerful. I couldn’t help but smile, but deep inside, I also felt the weight of something I needed to say.
”Hikari-chan, um… I haven’t been able to say this clearly before. And since I’ve already… well, gotten close with Kurumi-chan and Chinatsu-chan, it might sound late, but—”
Before I could finish, Hikari-chan gently leaned forward and sealed my lips with a soft kiss.
We stayed like that for a while, quietly pressing our foreheads together, as if sharing thoughts and warmth through our skin. It wasn’t like our usual ‘thank you’ kisses. This one held a different weight. A true feeling.
”Mmm… chu… ♡” she murmured, her cheeks pink with emotion.
Hikari-chan twisted slightly as though something was stirring deep inside. She moved a hand toward mine and gently took it, guiding it toward her own. The silence between us wasn’t awkward—it was full of trembling, quiet joy.
The moment felt charged. It was the beginning of something neither of us could fully put into words.
”Hey, Hikari-chan. About what we were talking about earlier—” I began again, searching for clarity.
”No,” she said, cutting me off with a smile. “We all talked about it. We decided together: we want to be Takumi-kun’s girls without ranking or order. If we gave one girl a title like ‘first’ or ‘most special,’ it would hurt the others. Kahoru-chan and Kurumi-chan… they couldn’t give you their firsts. We don’t want that to weaken their place.”
”Eh? So my opinion doesn’t count?” I asked, half-joking, half-serious.
”Yeah,” Hikari-chan replied, giggling softly. “Takumi-kun is kind. You care for everyone. You’re the kind of boy who’d never make one girl feel less loved. That’s why you don’t need to choose a special girl.”
Her laughter rang gently, and she reached out to touch my hand again. Then, as if shyly changing the subject, she leaned in and asked for another kiss.
”Nnh…♡ I love you, Takumi-kun. Thank you,” she said after we pulled apart. “But… sorry.”
She whispered something close to my ear, something soft and warm.
”That’s not fair,” she said. “If you say something so kind, I won’t be able to say anything back.”
”Yeah… but I think you’ll always be special to me. Even if you say there’s no ‘special girl,’ I can’t help how I feel,” I admitted.
Hikari-chan lowered her head a little and looked up with a gentle smile.
”If you don’t mind,” she said, “I’d like today to become a memory you’ll always hold. Even if it’s just a little, I want to be the one you remember.”
She took a deep breath and knelt gracefully in front of me, not out of shame but out of choice, her gaze focused and full of feeling.
”When you remember today… I want you to remember me as your girl.”
With those words, she rested her head against my chest and stayed there, quietly. The emotions were so deep, so fragile. Even though we had shared many moments together, today felt different—soft, yet filled with fire.
”Yeah,” I said, gently stroking her hair. “I want to hold onto this. I want to hold onto you.”
I focused on the warmth in my chest, the closeness we shared, and the way her heartbeat felt like it was echoing into mine. The moment wasn’t about passion—it was about connection.
”Ahh… Takumi-kun is warm,” Hikari-chan whispered.
She didn’t close her eyes. She looked up at me with such brightness that I had to look away, just a little. It was too much, how beautiful it felt.
”When I’m held like this… I feel like I’m becoming more than just myself,” she said.
”Yeah… but are you okay with today being the first? This memory… are you really okay with how it’s going?”
”It’s okay. Because it’s yours,” she replied. “If I give something important to someone I like, and he cherishes it, then… I’m happy.”
”It’s impossible not to cherish you, Hikari-chan.”
”Moments like this… they need mood,” she whispered. “If I’m going to be Takumi-kun’s girl, I have to offer both my heart and body for that feeling to mean something.”
She stood up slowly and sat down on the edge of the bed. Then, with a shy but determined movement, she placed both her feet down and gently rested her hands in her lap. Even in such a simple gesture, the meaning was heavy—like she was offering her whole self to the moment.
”Look,” Hikari-chan said, her voice trembling. “I can finally offer this to you. I waited so long… and I’m glad. Thanks to Chinatsu-chan and everyone, I didn’t have to sell my feelings. I can give them to you… as they are.”
Tears fell from her eyes—softly, slowly, like they’d been waiting for this moment just as much as she had.
”Why… why am I crying? I’m so happy… but my tears won’t stop…” she whispered.
”Hikari-chan, come here,” I said softly.
I gently pulled her legs closed and brought her into my arms, holding her against my chest.
”It’s okay. We’re alive. We’re here together. So you don’t need to force anything,” I said.
I held her close, rubbing her back slowly until her breathing steadied and the trembling faded.
Even after the tears stopped, I didn’t let go of her. I just held on.
