Chapter 264 Lunaria’s Awakening
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Day 131 of the Tester Life, Late Night, My Room, Lunaria Fangrion…
’Princess!! Jijil! Get Princess back!’ Sheena screamed.
My bodyguard, Jijil, grabbed me and dragged me to the rear as I knelt on the front lines, about to collapse.
Ah, is this that dream again? The battle against the Ogre King’s army, when the dragon-kin attacked by surprise and destroyed my knights.
Blind with rage, I had charged forward—only to be hit by the Chaos Dragon’s breath. Poison and paralysis struck at once, locking my body in place.
’It’s no good, nya! Even a grade 3 potion won’t work, nya!’ Jijil fed me a status-recovery potion. But dragon venom needs at least a grade 2. My symptoms eased enough to try standing—but my legs stayed dead.
How frustrating. I couldn’t even land one blow on the dragon that killed the knights I raised with my own hands.
’Freezing World’
Sheena unleashed a rare high-level magic Scroll, flash-freezing a wide area of the Orc army.
No! That was a high-level Scroll! Damn you, Sheena! It wasn’t enough that you wasted mid-level ones—now a high-level one? Do you know how much those cost!?
’Princess, please, mount the horse,’ Sheena ordered, her face calm as the spell faded.
I felt a flash of pointless anger, but paralyzed by the poison, I couldn’t argue.
’…I can still fight.’
I tried to use my sword as a crutch. My strength failed and I fell.
’Jijil, Yura, get Princess onto the horse. We’ll buy time,’ Sheena ordered.
’Yes, ma’am!’ they answered together.
’W-wait… what do you mean by “buy time”?’ I stammered, a terrible fear tightening my chest as they lifted me onto the horse and strapped me down sideways.
’This is where we part, Princess,’ Sheena said.
’Goodbye, Princess, nya,’ Jijil added.
’Stay safe, Princess,’ Yura said.
’I had plenty to complain about—like how you’re way past your prime for marriage—but honestly? I quite liked you, Princess,’ Berta said.
’To a slow, rustic cow-woman like me… Princess was always so kind. Now is the time to repay that debt,’ Urus said softly.
’N-no… I will stay…’ I cried.
I couldn’t leave them behind and run alone. I belonged there on the battlefield. I belonged with them, even if it meant death.
’You’re selfish to the very end, Princess. The dragon-kin might return, so hurry to the rear and get treated. Until then, we will act as decoys to draw the enemy’s eyes. Farewell, Princess… I loved you dearly,’ Sheena said—and struck the back of my horse with her rapier.
My mount reared, let out a terrified cry, and bolted.
’St-stop! Sheena, Jijil, Yura, Berta, Urus… I won’t leave…’ I screamed.
My attendants watched me go, smiling as they faded into the distance.
Some of them had been maids in the castle. I had brought them to the battlefield only to serve me. Why were they smiling?
They drew their weapons and charged toward the enemy army advancing behind the frozen Orc horde. Every Scroll they had left—bright flashes and the thunder of explosions lit the field around them.
Ah… Sheena… My older playmate since childhood. After I became a knight, she stayed as my aide—a sister in everything but blood. A nag who understood me better than anyone, who shielded me from my spiteful older sisters. Even when I insisted on leading my knights to the front lines, she grumbled—but she always followed.
I don’t want this. I don’t want to be apart. I have to go back—back to everyone—back to Sheena—
Then it appeared.
Above where they had charged, a dragon—its whole body covered in ice—descended. An Ice Dragon. It circled once, took a deep breath.
’Stop… it…’ I whispered, knowing it would change nothing.
The Ice Dragon unleashed its breath. Frost swallowed the Orcs, the Ogres, and my sisters-in-arms—raining down without mercy.
’Ah… Sheena… Jijil… everyone…’ I sobbed.
They wouldn’t survive that. The truth shattered me—a void of utter despair. Then the poison in my body pulled me under, and I lost consciousness.
When I finally woke, I was in a tent in the rear support lines.
’Sheena… everyone… I will take revenge for you. Wait for me. I’ll be joining you soon,’ I swore.
I pushed down the grief, retreated with the rear guard toward the Royal Capital, and met my father and mother.
’My brothers and sisters…’
All my siblings had fallen. The younger brothers who had moved at the humans’ request, my elder sisters—gone. They had always looked down on me, but they were powerful lion-kin and tiger-kin warriors. The shock of their defeat hit me hard.
’The human Hero acted as a decoy to kill the Necromancer King! They traded their life for the Demon General! Your siblings’ deaths were not in vain! They proved the strength of the Beastmen! Be proud!’ my father declared.
’Father… yes. I am proud of them. By comparison, I am…’ I trailed off.
A loser. Unable to stop the invasion. Having lost my knights and fled after using Sheena and the others as decoys.
’Lunaria, I’m just glad you came back alive. If I had lost you, too…’ my mother whispered.
’Mother…’ I cried. She held me in her arms, a Silver Wolf-kin like me, her eyes full of tears.
’The Dragon-kin and the Ogre army are closing in. Black Wolves and Trolls among them, too. We will protect this capital. We will protect our people. We shall show these demons the true courage of the Beast Kingdom,’ my father said.
’Yes! Father!’
I gripped my Orichalcum sword and followed Father and my brother toward the castle gates.
We are the royalty of the Beast Kingdom. It is our custom to stand at the very front and fight.
Soon, an army large enough to hide the horizon surrounded the capital walls.
’Charge! I am the Lion King of the Beast Kingdom, Zelberk Fangrion! The Peerless Lion King! Demons! If you want to claim this land, strike me down first!’ my father roared.
’My name is Lunaria Fangrion! Last princess of the Fangrion Beast Kingdom, Princess Knight of the Demon Boar! Demons! I shall let you taste my blade!’ I shouted, standing atop the castle gate beside my brother and Father.
The gates broke. We fought the Demon King’s forces in a desperate battle that pushed us inside the royal castle itself. Wyverns rained fire from above, tearing the walls apart.
’Gahahaha! To think it would come to this! Lunaria! Take the people and flee!’ my father laughed.
’I fight beside you and Mother until the end!’
’Keep the blood of the Fangrion line alive, Lunaria. That is how you protect our people,’ Father ordered.
’My beloved sister. Find yourself a brave mate. Rebuild the Beast Kingdom,’ my brother added.
’Mother… Brother…’
’Empty the treasure vault of every magic tool and Scroll! Drive these dragon-wannabes away!’ Father ordered.
’Lunaria, come now,’ Mother urged.
I didn’t want to run. I wanted to scream at their backs. But Mother grabbed my arm and dragged me toward the refugees’ room—and when I saw the scared faces of the children, my hesitation vanished.
As royalty, I could not abandon my people.
I whispered a final goodbye to my mother, took command of the refugees, and led them through the underground tunnels.
When I looked back, the Royal Castle was already swallowed in flames. Countless Wyverns circled above, and above them, the shape of a giant red Fire Dragon.
’Father… Brother… Mother…’ I whispered.
My heart tore apart. I wanted to howl, to scream. But the scared faces of my people made me bite my lip and force myself calm.
’We head for the Margrave’s territory! We shall join forces with what’s left of the human army there!’ I announced.
With a handful of soldiers, I turned toward the Margrave’s land on the border of the human lands.
A year passed. We fought the Demon King’s advancing forces in every noble territory along the way, losing ground, regrouping, and repeating the cycle until, finally, we reached the Margrave’s lands.
There, we joined the Margrave’s army, beginning the long, hard days of war against the relentless Demon King.
’Princess! The army led by the Necromancer King is closing in! They say it’s nothing but human zombies and skeletons!’ a soldier reported.
We had fought off the Ogre legions alongside the noble armies—losing many, but succeeding—only to be hit by this new horror.
’So the stories were true…’ I realized.
Word had spread that the Necromancer King’s army went rogue after their master was slain by the Hero, turning the humans they killed into undead out of vengeance. For nearly two years, we hadn’t seen a single human soldier or commoner. This territory was already surrounded, cut off from all sides. Nowhere left to run.
I made my choice.
”It ends here. If this is our final stand, then we will carve the fear of the Beast Kingdom’s warriors into the Demon King’s soul! Their commander is likely a Lich Emperor. We will take them down! Whoever kills them shall be the Hero of the Beastmen! Let your names be etched in history!” I declared.
The remaining soldiers roared.
Though our numbers were shrinking, our spirit burned at its peak.
I turned to the terrified civilians.
’My people! Forgive me! I will die here today—and you will likely meet the same fate! But what will you do? Will you be killed in silence? Or will you sink your claws and fangs into the enemy and carve the pride of the Beastmen into their very being? The choice is yours!’
’I… I’ll fight! I’m going to avenge my father!’ a young man shouted.
’I will fight, too! For my husband! For my son!’ a woman cried.
’I… I’ll fight as well… use this old body as your shield. I’ll keep standing until the very end,’ an elder added.
’Me too!’ a girl squeaked.
’And me!’ a boy chirped.
My words fired them up. Women, children, even the elderly bared their claws and fangs, one after another, choosing to fight.
I’m sorry, everyone. Father, Mother… forgive me. I couldn’t protect our people.
But I will land at least one blow. I will make the Demon King know the fear of the Beastmen!
”Charge! Hear me, Demon King! I am the Flash! Lunaria, the Flash, heir to the Flash’s Head-Hunting Rabbit! Warriors of the Beast Kingdom, follow me!”
I led two thousand soldiers and ten thousand civilians into the zombie horde. With the orichalcum blade my father gave me, I slashed and cut and carved—until I finally reached the Lich Emperor, guarded by his Liches.
I reached him!
I was alone. No allies remained. But I had made it to the enemy commander.
”I am the last of the Beastman royalty! Lunaria, the Flash! You demon spawn! Taste my steel!”
I charged. As I struck at the Lich, iron spears burst from the ground and pierced my legs. Fireballs scorched my body. High-level magic froze me solid.
Ah… so I couldn’t reach him after all.
Forgive me, everyone. This is where my journey ends.
As my mind faded, wrapped in ice, the image of me arguing with Sheena in the castle rose unbidden.
Ah… it was fun. She was sharp-tongued, violent at every turn, a woman who never treated me like the owner of the blonde doll. But she worried about me more than anyone. When I slept, she would brush my tail. When I couldn’t sleep, she would hold me in her arms.
Sheena… I loved you so much. I’m coming now. Let’s argue about useless things in the afterlife, too.
And so, I died.
Hmm? Hmm?
If I’m dead, why am I having a dream?
The thought jolted me awake. I opened my eyes to a white ceiling made of a material I didn’t recognize. My naked body was wrapped in a soft quilt.
Where am I?
I tried to turn my head—and noticed someone holding onto me. White rabbit ears. A familiar face.
”Sh-Sheena!?” I gasped.
Sheena—the one I had wanted to see for so long—was sleeping in my arms.
Why? Sheena should have been dead. And I was—
”Guh…”
A flood of memories slammed into me. A splitting headache.
Ah… I remember. I was recovered by Succubus Management1 and brought back to life. I’d heard humans made a Resurrection Crystal—unfinished, but the demons took it anyway. And once revived, I was used as a servant, thrown out time and again… until I was introduced to Yakumo. Through the miracle of overflowing love, I regained my sense of self.
I stare at Sheena, sleeping so peacefully.
Ah, Sheena. Thank goodness you’re alive.
I wanted to see you… I wanted to see you so much, Sheena.

As I stared at my Sheena, not bothering to wipe the tears flowing down my face, memories of my time with her after my resurrection came flooding back.
”Fufu, Princess. Twenty years old and still a virgin. You’re not just leftover, you’re practically expired. My Lord, were there cobwebs in there?” Sheena teased.
”Princess, you can’t even brew a single cup of tea… you are truly useless.”
”Princess? What is that attitude toward a guest? If you act like that again, I will tear those ears right off your head.”
”Princess, that’s wrong. You have to take it deeper into your throat. You are truly a useless female wolf.”
”Please keep in mind that you are a s**men toilet, Princess. You must have the Master e**culate as much as possible into your v**ina. Do you understand? If you understand, open your legs in the toilet and wait for the Master to arrive.”
”Fufu, Princess is still as weak in combat as ever. Look, you fell for the feint again. You have no learning ability. Do you even have a brain in there?”
”Princess, house! Yes, very good. Here is a bone-in meat treat as a reward. It’s the one I was eating last night, but I permit you to suck on it like a dog.”
”Ah, ah, ah, you rude, insolent woman!” I yelled.
I yanked hard on both of Sheena’s cheeks while she slept. Where is my sword! I’ll cut her down right now!
”Ow… it hurts, Princess, what are you doing all of a sud…” Sheena whimpered.
”Shut it! How dare you treat me like a servant! I’ll cut you down for your insolence! Just wait—wait… what are you staring at? You’re an old hag, blank stares don’t look cute on you.”
Sheena suddenly froze, shock on her face.
”Princess… Sama? Y-your sense of self… you’ve regained it,” she whispered.
”Hm? Ah, it seems so. I woke up and was shocked to find you alive—and that I even had a husband.”
”Ah… finally… finally… uwaaaaaa! Princess! Princess!!” Sheena sobbed.
”W-wait, no need to cry… ugh… Sheena… I wanted to see you too… forgive me… back then, letting me escape… I regretted it for so long. I survived while leaving you and everyone else behind—and I still couldn’t protect my people. I let my country fall… I’m sorry…”
As she clung to me, sobbing like a child, I shed my own tears and apologized again and again.
