In Toyata Village, on a small hill, water is precious.
The well has plenty of water, but it’s quite deep, so it takes time to draw up.
Only a few rich houses have a bathroom.
Since it’s not as humid as Japan, summer heat is easier to bear, but nothing beats the feeling of washing off sweat in the water.
Toyata Village was originally built as a fort to watch over the canal, so when you go down the hill and out of the village gate, the canal flows right in front of you.
During summer, the village children swim n*ked in the canal.
The current is slow, and it’s maintained regularly, so accidents in the water rarely happen.
The adult men, of course, care about being seen, but when it gets too hot, they can’t help it and jump into the canal with just a piece of cloth around their waist.
Some even swim n*ked at night, but if anything happens, it’s their own responsibility.
The problem is with the women.
They don’t want to expose their skin, but they still want to wash off the sweat before bed.
Between the summer solstice festival and the autumn grape harvest festival, the women of Toyata Village gather in the shadows of the dock at dusk to wash themselves, hidden in the evening darkness.
The large dock can unload big ships directly, and it has a dock that channels water from the canal.
The old dock hasn’t been used for decades, but the water is just deep enough for a good wash, and it’s in the shadow of the pier, so there’s no worry about being peeked at from the opposite bank of the canal.
The intake and drainage points are covered with strong wire netting to keep away monsters, so even if an accident happens, there’s no worry about being swept away into the canal.
As the sun begins to set, women from the village carrying laundry gather at the dock in groups.
They chat happily while doing their laundry, waiting for dusk.
As the sun sinks and the evening darkness starts to wrap around, they enter the water to wash off the day’s sweat, and they return to the village in a group along the path lit by dancing fireflies.
This little nighttime adventure is one of the women’s summer pleasures.
Today, by the time the sunset turns red, more than 20 women had gathered.
The lively gossip session has already begun, and the recent hot topic is about a meat dish from another world called “chicken ham.”
”You know, the taste of salt-free chicken ham is just amazing!”
”I tried it for the first time yesterday, and it’s like a feast fit for a king!”
”I haven’t had the salt-free one yet, but I think the salty part of chicken ham is what makes it good.”
”You should try the salt-free one at least once; you’ll be totally surprised!”
Just a few dozen days ago, meat was a special treat in this village.
The chicken ham brought by the boy from another world changed the whole idea of a feast.
”If I had to choose, I’d definitely go for the salt-free, but the salty one is tasty too!”
”Both are delicious! The salty one is just right if you put it in soup.”
”The problem with the salt-free one is that it doesn’t last long.”
”I’m going to eat it all in one day anyway, so it doesn’t matter!”
”With this, Ms. Erin’s magic bag is really something to envy!”
”Quail meat and a magic bag, our lives are like something out of a fairy tale, right?”
”──If you get too carried away, it will be tough later; this is just too special!”
The tailor, Lyra, warns the excited women.
Her loud voice makes her a leader of the group, and lately, she has been making sure there are no complaints about the Hero’s share.
The sun is starting to set, and night is falling around them.
The women take off their clothes and slide into the water one by one.
The feeling of being completely n*ked adds to the excitement, and their girl talk starts to get wilder.
”By the way, is it true that flirting works on Sir Hero?”
”If it really works, I’d do anything!”
”That Sir Hero is a bit innocent, so going too far might backfire.”
”It depends on the person; if I were ten years younger, I’d totally charm him!”
”Oh, for that kid, I’d want to eat him up, no sharing needed!”
At first, the women planned to use flirting to get more shares, but now they enjoy teasing the shy Hero who turns bright red.
Many of the young women are confident in their looks, but once they marry, they only have chances to dress up during festivals.
Tempting the Hero is like a fun festival for them.
”I wish someone would just stick with him and make him stay in this village forever, you know?”
