I picked up the magic tool that at first looked like a blood pressure monitor and set a drained magic stone into it.
I wrapped the cord from the magic tool around my left arm and injected mana into it.
This blood pressure monitor-like magic tool is actually a magic stone charger, or rather, a mana charger, which takes about 10 to 30 minutes to fully charge one magic stone.
There’s no pilot lamp or anything, so when you can’t push any more mana in, it means it’s fully charged.
Still, this magic stone really looks like just a regular battery the more I look at it.
The only differences are that there’s no brand printed on it, and the positive end has some kind of crystal-like material.
”The going rate for magic stones is about one common gold coin. There are many fakes, so you’ll probably get cheated soon enough.”
”Am I supposed to just expect to be tricked?”
”Sometimes, stones with degraded mana are sold for cheap, but those can actually be hidden gems. If you use them carefully, they can return to their original power.”
Oh, that’s good info.
When it’s time to buy, I’ll look for stuff like that.
”Chargers have no set price. If they see a chance to cheat you, you’ll lose. Shady merchants might try to charge 1,000 or even 10,000 gold coins.”
I’ve suddenly jumped into a world I can’t afford.
”Don’t buy one. If you need one, make it yourself.”
Wait, are you saying you’ll teach me how to make one?
I’m kind of hopeful about that!
”Do you know what this is?”
I barely caught the golden object that Mr. Zenom tossed to me with my free left hand.
”Don’t drop it; that thing is worth more than 10,000 gold coins.”
Ten thousand gold coins means one common coin is worth ten thousand gold, so, uh, that’s 80s: 100 million gold!
That would be equivalent to ten billion yen in Japanese money!!!
My hands began to sweat, so I carefully set it on the desk.

I thought he might be rich, but this guy is unknowable.
Why is he just a blacksmith in such a small village?
I looked at the golden object on the desk.
Considering the price, it’s even more valuable than a gold brick of the same size.
It looks just like a magic stone, except for its shiny gold color.
Is it like the difference between a manganese battery and an alkaline battery?
I don’t think that kind of difference would make it ten thousand times more expensive.
”Is this used the same way as a regular magic stone?”
Since the size is the same, it’s likely the same standard, but with the price in mind, I can’t just break it by using it wrong.
”Well, for most magic tools, you can use both in the same way.”
”So, is the price difference because of the capacity?”
”Correct! This is called a magic crystal, and its mana capacity is over ten thousand times that of a magic stone.”
So, it’s the difference between a stone and a crystal; the insides are different.
”If the price is ten thousand times and the capacity is over ten thousand times, then the magic crystal is a better deal.”
If I could buy it, that is.
”Many think that way, but I believe magic stones have more value.”
Huh, what do you mean?
”When I was young, I worked in a crystal cave. Magic stone raw materials don’t come out as much as magic crystals.”
”But isn’t that just for that mine? It wouldn’t make sense otherwise, especially in terms of rarity.”
”It’s not strange. Magic stones can be used semi-permanently if you fill them with mana, but magic crystals disappear when used.”
Master, it’s unfair to give information later like that.
The output of magic stones is rarer, but since magic crystals disappear when used, they have more market rarity.
”So, is it actually better to buy magic stones?”
”It depends on the use, right? Young people these days are too lazy to exchange magic stones and want to use magic crystals for everything.”
”How foolish! The filling mechanism is the romance of a man!”
”No, I don’t need that kind of thing.”

”Well, the reasoning of young people is like this. Tools degrade when used; when magic crystals run out, it’s more rational to replace them completely with new ones than to repair and keep using them, that’s what that kid said.”
Who is that kid?
I’m curious; from the flow of the conversation, it seems like a young genius craftsman or something like that.
”It’s reasonable, though it’s an unpleasant phrase. But it’s not entirely wrong. There is performance that can be pursued with a disposable mindset. Because of that, even nobles have started saying it’s cheaper to buy new than to repair. But I hate the idea of throwing away things I’ve made.”
”I understand. In my world, there was a similar situation for a time. But repairing and cherishing tools is the ultimate eco-friendly choice. From now on, it’s the era of making profits through eco-friendliness, a reversal of thought.”
”I don’t really get what eco means, but it seems there’s some powerful persuasiveness there.”
”If that’s the case, I’ll probably have nothing to do with magic crystals for life. It’s too expensive, and besides, I’m an earth-friendly guy.”
From now on, all the magic tools I create will come standard with magic stones.
I just decided that.
”What are you saying? You have magic crystals, don’t you? You even have 2!”
”Huh?”
”The little lady doll and the laptop!”
