Volume 3 Chapter 8 Souvenir Quest: Part III
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Among all the seeds Ms. Hóa gave me, the one I’m most excited about is Calamoni.
This is horseradish, like Western wasabi.
I like real wasabi too, but I love horseradish even more.
Not as a substitute for real wasabi, I just really dig the sharp, clean spicy kick it gives… It sounds like I’m making excuses for cheating, but honestly, I like both about the same.
I haven’t found a fish to eat as sashimi yet, but I bet grated horseradish on quail meat tataki would be perfect.
No soy sauce is a real shame, but salt wasabi is pretty fancy too.
I also got seeds for garlic and leek relatives.
These plants have been grown in this world for ages, and they seem pretty resistant to the poison in wall barley.
It only means they won’t wither from poison, but I still gotta make sure they aren’t physically crushed.
”Looks like there are a lot of spice seed varieties, huh~desuwa.”
Ms. Erin’s really something, she can tell the types just by looking at the seeds.
I took them without hesitation after Hóa recommended, but yeah, most are spices.
I plan to cook the leek and asparagus as vegetables, though.
”They all look like the same little grains to me, but you can tell them apart, huh?”
”Well, it’s written clearly in elfin magic script on the bag.”
Ms. Hóa’s really a troublemaker… using writing only elves can see.
She’s also onto me bringing seeds to Ms. Erin.
Nah, in her case, she might just not be thinking about it at all.
The wise sage probably just laughs it off, saying ‘Great fool resembles great wise,’ I’d guess.
”I get the gist of the situation, though. Looks like you made quite an impression on someone important.”
Ms. Erin gives me a slightly sulky look.
Ah, right, she knows the blessing… the kiss Hóa gave me, other elves can tell too.
Ms. Erin bullying is kinda cute, huh.
I’m pretty happy she’s opening her heart enough for us to have this kind of talk.
About Ms. Hóa’s blessing, it’s not like I did anything shady, so I’ll just let it slide.
Stay calm, stay calm.
”Ms. Hóa is probably a mighty elf, right?”
I blurted out whatever came to mind.
Maybe my voice wavered a bit, but I don’t care.
It’s fine, stay calm.
”Lady Hóa Chinon has lived for 7 hundred years, you know.”
A high elf… in the game, they’re higher race elves.
For living so long, she’s kinda more childish than Ms. Erin.
Seems like in this world, there’s a phrase ‘aging and turning back into a kid,’ but in Ms. Hóa’s case it’s not that ── it’s probably some mischievous thing.
”Can you tell the difference just by looking?”
The tray Ms. Erin brought has 2 tiny glass cups.
The liquid inside is amber-colored; judging by the scent, it’s honey liquor or something.
They look almost the same, but if you look real close, one has a faint cloudy aura around it.
”I think this one’s the good stuff.”
I pick up the clear glass──no cloud at all.
It’s got a soft, sweet smell, and now I feel kinda embarrassed about the perfume I gave her.
I should’ve given Ms. Erin something different.
”Correct~desuwa. Now you’re truly an elf friend~desuwa.”
Maybe this was another elf trial?
Comparing the honey liquor, the difference is clear.
That foggy look must be what they call Corruption.
Like Karma in the game, probably?
Is seeing Corruption a skill too?
Feels like it’s not, it’s probably a different kind of ability.
To master it, I need to sharpen my own sense, not just level up.
”As expected, my eyes didn’t deceive me. Lady Hóa is supporting you this much…”
Is this the effect of Ms. Hóa’s blessing?
But I only got Ms. Hóa’s blessing because I had Ms. Erin’s first… So either way, I really owe thanks to Ms. Erin.
”You’re too kind to share the Antfolk. If you have more daughters with them, please share them with me too.”
Come to think of it, Ms. Hóa mentioned that if you love the Antfolk, you might have kids or something.
I can feel a bond of trust growing with the Ms. Ants, but I don’t think it’s that deep yet.
Still, I’ve got a soft spot for the diligent and loyal Ms. Ants.
They may look non-human, but they’ve got serious charisma.
They’re covered in a hard, rubbery shell that’s as strong as steel, except maybe their waists are a bit too slender.
Their well-defined limbs have the perfect proportions for a woman.
The parts of their faces with human skin showing are all stunningly beautiful, with perfect features.
Their eyes are hidden behind goggle-like compound eyes, so you can’t really see them.
It’s a mystery whether they have human eyes under those compound eyes.
Their cute little noses and those luscious, captivating lips seem to embody the beauty of a woman.
It makes me want to hug and kiss them without thinking.
But no, I wouldn’t do that.
I want our good relationship to last, and I’d never want to do anything they’d hate.
If they were the ones to come on to me, though, I wouldn’t have a reason to refuse.
I mean, I do wonder what Ms. Nina would think.
But in this world, if you’re gonna get married and take responsibility, it should be fine.
In a different world, a harem wouldn’t be just a dream.
A husband has to satisfy all his wives.
On the other hand, wives are allowed to have free love with a specific lover, which means they can openly cheat with that one person all they want.
I wonder which is better, the Japanese marriage system or this one?
It’s a straightforward thing to say, but in this world, commoners don’t have pensions, so when you get older, you have to rely on your kids to take care of you.
You gotta leave as many descendants as you can, or you’ll be in trouble when you’re old; that’s why you need a harem.
Antfolk work hard, so they’re great as family members, but the downside is that they mostly give birth to girls.
Well, there’s always the option of taking in a son-in-law.
So… if I become a dad, then I’ll have an Antfolk daughter, huh?
I can’t just split my daughter like pets, but Ms. Erin would definitely take good care of her.
Antfolk and elves have a symbiotic relationship, it seems.
But before that, I still wonder, is my child with an Antfolk really gonna be an Antfolk?
Ms. Erin is laughing at me while I’m over here struggling with my thoughts.
Am I being teased?
Speaking of which, who even is Ms. Ant’s dad?
I assume it’s some elf or high elf guy, though.
I should ask Ms. Hóa about it next time.
