Volume 3 Chapter 9-2 Arrogant Noble

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”Are these the rude ones?”

A fat little man came out supported by 2 beautiful women from an elegant carriage.

He looks like some kind of lower-class noble from his clothes.

The women are young and pretty, but they don’t have any grace in how they carry themselves.

After seeing the refined Miss Floria, their flimsy attempts at elegance look even more silly.

The 3 of them are all grinning happily, which seems kinda fun.

”Such behavior is that of a uncouth, lowly person. If you all leave the quail behind, I might forgive today’s rudeness.”

Looking closer, their clothes are cheap and a bit too big.

It’s obvious they bought them at a thrift shop.

They’re probably just some lower nobles acting snobby around commoners.

Mentioning Baroness’s name might make things easier, but watching their antics a little longer could also be fun.

All these folks are pretty corrupted, but the lingering resentment doesn’t feel like they’re huge monsters.

Maybe because the grudge is strong, I can tell what kind of corruption it is──mostly trash monsters like slime, Mud Turtles, and other level 5 or lower ones.

They’re not killing for food or to level up, but just for the joy of slaughtering.

 Torturing them.

For some reason, anger starts to build up inside me.

No one seems to be level 10 or above, so Ms. Ant could take them out on her own.

”My cousin serves as the steward for Viscount Beryl. If anyone’s as generous as I am, they’d lock up you disrespectful fools.”

 Probably a boast, but whatever.

Viscount is above Baron, I think.

It’d be troublesome if that Viscount Beryl shows up, but since they’re just saying their cousin is a steward, it’s probably no big deal.

It’s almost like they’re admitting they’re just lowly nobles themselves.

”So, I suppose I should hold Viscount Beryl accountable for your misdeeds, then?”

I hold my head high and say it confidently back.

Remembering Miss Floria from the court, I try to act noble with a quick cover, and it works like a charm.

 ”Uh… w-what… what’s your relation to the… Viscount Beryl?”

The little man who was just swaggering now looks pale as a sheet.

The scumbags around probably noticed that things felt different for them.

”Hey! You there! Do you even understand what it means to point that gun at someone?”

I yell at the guy pointing the gun at me.

He’s got a gun that might go off anytime, so yeah, this guy needs to be punished.

The man shutters and lowers the gun to the ground when he meets my glare.

He probably just realized if I were some high-ranking noble, this could turn real bad.

All I’m doing is copying Miss Floria, but the teacher is someone who got picked as a royal family tutor, so he’s definitely important.

Wait a sec, thinking about it, the Viscount’s butler might actually be pretty proud of that position.

You gotta have proper manners to keep that job.

Nobleship world is so full of annoying hierarchies.

They act all mighty with their authority, but gotta bow down to those above them.

Anyway, I’ll just play it cool and push through.

If I was some big noble out enjoying a secret hunt, these guys are straight-up robbers.

Ms. Ant and her crew have fancy gear, and me riding on a strong, beautiful beast-people girl──maybe I don’t look entirely like some secret Baron, huh…?

Miss Floria says there are almost no bandits in this world.

Maybe because even if they’re poor, they don’t worry about starving, and also because the threat of death for bandits is a really clear deterrent.

That little guy is probably all confused by this unexpected mess.

 What’s he gonna do next?

 Try to kill us all?

As long as he leaves no evidence, even killing someone super high-ranking isn’t necessarily a crime.

But having multiple enemies all at once──yeah, that doesn’t happen often.

In this situation, silencing us isn’t possible.

Probably, he’ll try to act all nice and fake his way out of it.

That’d be easiest for us too──less trouble.

Maybe I should try dropping Miss Floria’s name as a bluff?

But, I got mad when the gun was pointed at me, and I started to think of one sneaky way to mess this up.

I can’t use magic, but I do have that cheat Mind Communication skill that lets me summon a Hero anytime.

’Fire spirit, I’ve got a fun toy here.’

I whispered it softly to the world.

 Boom!

Loud crash suddenly roared, Ms. Claire stood straight up.

The noise kept going on and on.

Bet some naughty Fire spirit found a weird toy and is playing.

I didn’t use magic, nor did I command any spirit.

It’s just bad luck if you got gunpowder in your pocket.

The guy pointing a gun at me had some bullets in his pocket, and they kept going off one after another.

He got hurt real bad and fell down.

The shabby wagon also had bullets, and it kept exploding like firecrackers.

The surprised horse ran off, smashing some guys into the air.

Some dumb guys in the chaos even tried to stab Ms. Ant with swords, but they got a faceful of quail and just crumbled like they lost their strength.

 ”Tie up the bandits!”

When I gave the order, Ms. Ant and Ms. Aqua started their unbeatable show.

But it was only for a few seconds.

First a few guys got half-killed and rolled on the ground, then the rest gave up easily.

Little guy was shuffling desperately, trying to run, but I caught him since it looked like he was trying to escape.

”You, nobles like me… think you can do stuff like this and walk free?”

He panted and said his lines like the usual, all dramatic.

”Don’t worry, I’ll call in Viscount Beryl for the trial too.”

Hearing ‘trial,’ he soiled himself like a crab and flipped over.

The women begged they weren’t involved, but I tied them up tight anyway.

Even the village guards who’d ignored everything till now finally came to check.

Took the caught bandits straight to the guild.

Hope I don’t have to deal with some annoying trial again like last time.

Learned my lesson: strike first, then report.

Luckily, it turned out to be some rogue noble like bully who was threatening nearby villages.

I reported on the computernet to the capital, and they caught the guy on the spot──no trial needed.

If you catch a bandit red-handed, you can either execute or sell him as a slave──so they say.

Only the minor nobles are taken to the capital and can be given the punishment written by law.

If a noble commits a crime and gets arrested, it seems they can be released if they pay a ransom.

I hear I get to keep half of that ransom, so it might not be such a bad deal after all.

The rest of the criminals are getting sold to slave traders.

It seems like criminals who aren’t nobles are great for supplying slaves.

Slavery in this world feels like a life sentence, and it seems like a harsh punishment, but there aren’t enough jails to hold all the criminals.

In this world, it feels like non-nobles don’t have rights at all.

Buying a slave is expensive, but selling one is dirt cheap.

Mr. Laken said it would be a shame to sell 2 beautiful women, but honestly, I don’t want them.

Those women led the noble astray, and they’re way too much for me to handle.

In the end, during the negotiation with the slave trader 3 days later, Mr. Chaa unexpectedly barged in and won the women at auction.

The slave trader was furious over the sudden bidding war, but thanks to helpful Mr. Chaa, the price went up a bit, so I didn’t mind.

The slave trader managed to buy 9 strong men at a low price, so he left with a big smile, saying it was a good deal.

The two horse-drawn carriages and weapons became my loot.

Mr. Laken bought the horses for me.

The carriages and weapons were better off being broken down for materials than sold, so they went to Mr. Zenom’s warehouse.
