When you use your strength in the wrong way, your parents usually scold you. But when you’re summoned to another world and separated from your family, that’s not the case.
In a way, both Agito and Alex are victims of the Hero summoning.
In a group of African elephants, there’s always an older elephant that teaches the others. If a hunter kills this teacher elephant, the young elephants stop fearing humans and become violent, rampaging elephants.
It’s similar with dogs. If you spoil them and don’t train them properly, they become selfish and uncontrollable.
The problem lies with the hunter or owner who can’t train them, but it’s the rampaging elephants or misbehaving dogs that get put down.
I can’t help but feel a little sorry for Agito and Alex because it could easily have been me.
In my case, it’s mostly because I didn’t get a special power that would make me overconfident.
I have Mr. Zenom, who trains me strictly. Sometimes it feels unfair, but overall, he’s right. He’s a teacher who genuinely teaches me, and I’m grateful for his guidance.
I want to help Agito before he becomes like Alex. After all, he’s someone I know, and he once said my cooking was good.
”I’ve reached level 20. Do you understand what that means? Hey.”
Is he speaking with a strange accent to try and scare me? Maybe he’s unconsciously trying to sound intimidating.
In this way, humans aren’t so different from animals. When a baby bird senses danger, the parent bird warns others by making a scary sound.
Threatening means there’s still room for negotiation. Predators, on the other hand, silently and quickly catch their prey without any warning.
”You leveled up and got too full of yourself, huh?”
When I first met Agito, he was level 18. Has he already leveled up by two more levels? It’s efficient to gain experience points by joining a high-level group, but this method doesn’t help you become more skilled.
I don’t know if he was relying on others, though. Slowly and steadily leveling up is the best way to become stronger, including improving your skills.
”Don’t say that! You’re only level 4! If you go around talking, I’ll kill you!”
Ah, many advanced jobs become available once you reach level 20, so maybe he’s unlocked a good one.
He’s really getting carried away. At this point, it might be best to introduce him to Mr. Raoh, who is good at helping others, and let him teach Agito a lesson.
”Draw your sword, coward. It’s a duel, and I’ll show you who’s better, you lowly worker.”
No matter how much he provokes me, I must not fight him.
If I fought him seriously, there’s no way I could win. But if it’s a fight with no rules, I don’t think I’d lose.
It would be an easy win if I summoned a fire spirit, but the risk of setting the area on fire is too great, and Agito would probably call it unfair.
Once again, I think I’ll stick with a peaceful approach. No matter what he says, I’ll stay calm.
”Are you too scared to even speak? Then it’s my win. Justice will always win, so whatever I do is right.”
He’s starting to make up strange reasons. From the way he’s talking about Justice, it seems like he knows deep down that he’s wrong.
How should I respond to a child’s illogical argument? How would Miss Floria handle this?
In this world, it feels like a misbehaving child would just get a punishment, and that’s the end of it.
”This isn’t a duel. It’s what you call a teaching moment.”
The fancy sword I carry for protection is stored in my magic pouch, and instead, I take out a wooden stick. This is a rare wood from a tropical place that I found while cleaning at Ms. Mahal’s house. I thought about making a magic staff, and she gave me the wood, but it was so hard that I gave up after shaving a small part of the tip. I put a metal ring around the shaved part and turned it into a staff, and now I just use it as a walking stick.
Since there’s a metal ring on the tip, I could say it’s a hammer if I wanted to. If it’s treated as a tool, I can use my Crafting skill, which is helpful.
”You mock me, huh? Go die once.”
Without thinking, he draws his sword and starts swinging it. If you draw your sword first, you’re at a disadvantage in a fight, so clever people try to make their opponent draw theirs first.
By the way, staffs and maces don’t have sheaths, so they aren’t considered drawn weapons. People in this world are really clever.
As for Agito, he’s completely unprepared. He probably can’t even imagine losing.
Since this isn’t a game, I’ll teach him not to judge his opponent only by their level.
The sword swung by a level 20 warrior is quite scary. Even knowing it won’t hit me, it’s still a little frightening.
But his fighting stance is very basic. Can he really fight monsters like this?
He swings his two-handed sword from above, but it’s like pounding mochi. Even with my average agility, I can dodge it easily.
While dodging, I tap his forearm with the wooden stick. Considering the level difference, his HP shouldn’t decrease, but he drops his sword in surprise.
”What’s wrong, Sir Hero? Don’t lose to a wooden stick!”
People around us laugh and make fun of Agito for clumsily dropping his weapon. Agito probably wasn’t well-liked.
But this isn’t a good situation. I should consider Agito’s pride and not embarrass him in public. If I do, he’ll just resent me instead of learning from his mistake.
”Hey, let’s continue this later, alright?”
I try to talk to him like a friendly, athletic senior. I’ve never been in a sports club, so this is just my guess.
If he’s really into muscles, this might make him like me.
”I’ll never forgive you, I’ll definitely kill you. Fatal, Unerring, Eternal Crush Strike!!”
His face turns red as he suddenly uses a sword skill. Can’t he listen to me at all?
That’s such a long skill name, though. Powerful and accurate skills are strong, but they have downsides.
Normal skills use a set amount of MP, but accurate skills drain MP endlessly until they hit. If your MP runs out, your body and soul are damaged.
The cost isn’t fixed—it’s like ordering sushi at a restaurant with market-based prices. I wouldn’t want to use such a scary technique.
Well, enemies who can easily dodge sure-hit attacks are rare, huh.
Once a powerful skill is used, the targeted opponent has no choice but to be hit, but I’m not in a hurry. There’s actually a very simple solution.
The so-called substitute technique. Like ninjas do, leaving a log and escaping.
Ninjas are a rare job, and of course, I can’t use ninja skills.
But I have Original Ninja Art: ‘Empty Cicada’ Technique. A brand new move I built from scratch in the editor – 100% custom work.
The technique is extremely simple. It only swaps my presence with the presence of a steel ring on the staff for a moment.
Since this doesn’t interfere with enemy skills, there’s no worry of being resisted, even if the opponent is high level.
In sync with Agito’s skill activation, I lightly tap the cobblestone with the steel ring on the staff.
The sword skill called Eternal Something was definitely powerful. Agito was pulled along by the fast sword, rushing into the cobblestone and colliding.
As for me, I wanted to make it look like I smashed his sword into the ground. Maybe my timing was a bit early.
Agito suddenly stumbled, and it looked like his skill backfired.
Well, it’s good to know that Empty Cicada can be used in a fight.
Big cracks appeared on the cobblestone, and Agito’s sword also bent oddly.
It’s a well-made steel sword, with a soft iron core covered only on the blade with steel. The iron core makes it less likely to break, and the steel blade cuts well—a great design.
Maybe inspired by Japanese swords, it’s strong, cuts well, and doesn’t break easily.
Still, the fact that it bent means a lot of force was used. The hard steel blade couldn’t handle the pressure and developed cracks, bending from there.
Instead of fixing this sword, making a new one would probably be cheaper.
The handle, which is part of the blade, is stuck in Agito’s armor and pressing into his waist.
After the skill made the sword move very fast, the tip hit the cobblestone and stopped, so it seems the handle hit his stomach.
It looks painful, but Agito’s HP hasn’t decreased by even ten percent. A level 20 warrior is already very strong.
The iron ring on the wooden stick was broken by Agito’s special move. As expected, the skill attack destroyed the target.
I see. With the target destroyed, the attack skill ended, and the boosts to the sword and Agito were also removed, and right after that, he crashed into the stone pavement.
Since the direction of his movement suddenly changed in an unexpected way, Agito couldn’t react.
Anyway, I will get the broken piece of the ring that became my substitute.
I originally found it somewhere, so it’s no big deal, but making something of the exact same size would take extra work.
I might as well try to make it into a hammer this time. Something like a mountaineering pickaxe would be fine too.
Now, Agito is kneeling and seems to be in pain, but the fight isn’t over yet. Even if I keep fighting, I don’t think I can beat him anymore.
I need to end this properly. Fortunately, I have a trick up my sleeve—a con artist’s skill.
Thinking about it, I should have just used my skills to talk him down instead of fighting. Well, that’s something I realize after the fact.
”Agito. It seems your skills have improved a lot, huh? The power of your techniques is quite good. Your problem is that you’re too focused on your own strength. Don’t let evil thoughts cloud your mind, change your attitude, and keep trying. Anyone can become a true Hero someday.”
Probably because of the skill’s effect, I managed to say it coolly without stumbling.
By pointing out his defeat from a position of strength, I make Agito think the match is over and that I’ve lost.
At the same time, I leave a way for him to improve and become stronger—everything now depends on Agito.
”Uwaaa──!!”
Agito staggered away, crying. It’s understandable; even though he’s gained superhuman strength, he’s still just a 14-year-old kid inside.
It’s good for children to experience setbacks sometimes; it helps them grow in many ways. I myself am learning from setbacks almost every day.
”Are you okay?”
Now, I run up to the boy who is lying on the ground.
”You… are you his friend?”
The boy glared at me with sharp eyes, like a wild animal. It’s natural for him to be cautious, but this makes it hard to treat him.
”It’s okay, Malik. This person is a good Sir Hero. He helped me before too.”
This girl is so reliable, as always. She looks about the same age as Ani-Ani, but she might be more mature than me.
With the girl’s help, Malik relaxed a bit around me. He really cares for her, and it makes me feel warm inside.
I treated him with herbs and Healing Touch. Despite being so badly hurt, his injuries weren’t too serious. He’s pretty tough—maybe he has a defense-type skill.
If he rests well, he’ll recover quickly. Also, he needs protein… meat. I took out a package of torihamu sandwich from my magic bag and gave it to the girl.
”His internal injuries aren’t too bad. Feed him nutritious food and let him rest for a few days, and he’ll be fine.”
”Why are you being so kind? Don’t tell me you have ulterior motives.”
Does he think I’m after the girl too? It’s unfair, but considering what those bad Heroes did, it’s understandable.
”Because you risked your life to protect her. Your courage is worthy of praise, like a knight’s.”
Even I think this sounds cheesy, but my con-artist skill makes me talk like this. After acting cool in front of Agito, I’ll keep this tone going.
”Hmph. Don’t compare me to knights.”
Despite his words, the boy’s ears turned bright red.
”You did well, kid.”
”Downtown kids have real guts.”
Praise came from all around.
”Your stick-fighting teacher must be amazing.”
”Beating those bad Heroes with just a wooden stick—you must be a true master.”
This is getting awkward. I should leave soon.
The girl, supporting Malik, bowed deeply. Even in worn clothes, she’s so well-mannered. Like a beautiful lotus bud found in the mud, I hope she blooms beautifully.
