Chapter 640 Gieze’s Reflection

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”I’m sorry… It’s all my fault for being so inexperienced…”

In the Rosen Clinic’s hospital room, Gieze sat up halfway and bowed his head.

After parting ways with Three-Face, Kazumi, Liz, Simona, and I left her house to visit Gieze, Gorge, and Violet at the treatment clinic.

Apparently, four of the Sixteen Demon Generals—formerly under Gargantua—had shown up, begging to serve under her.

”Please assist Three-Face. ──This is a direct request from Lady Lilith and Lady Frejya.”

With just that one line from Gargantua, they immediately agreed to join Three-Face’s unit.

Since traveling in a large group would be a hassle, Gargantua, Hernando, and Esperanza chose to return to the mansion and report the situation to the Clan house.

The three of them had dashed out when the Demon Generals first arrived—so the group left behind was probably getting anxious by now.

* * *

”I see… You all are amazing as always.”

Liz and Simona had faced off against two of the Sixteen Demon Generals—the Ark demons—and even managed to defeat one, forcing the other to retreat.

 Kazumi was with Three-Face.

My father, my master, and Asuka were ready to fight too. And though the magic dragon Goliath interrupted, Rena and I arrived just in time to help turn the tide.

Hearing all this, Gieze lowered her head.

”What’s wrong? Feeling down because your power wasn’t enough, sister disciple?”

Violet, lying on the adjacent bed, teased her with a voice.

”I couldn’t even scratch the demon, and it’s so pathetic that I fell down in one hit…”

Gieze, sitting on the bed, clenched the sheets with a trembling fist.

”There’s no need to belittle yourself. We were able to defeat the demon (Groce) because we functioned as a team… Ouch!”

”Don’t talk too much, Gorge. You have the worst injury, after all.”

Gorge, who was trying to sit up in the bed across from Violet, pressed his abdomen and crouched down again.

Asuka, who was with him, helped him back under the covers.

”Well, Gorge is right. ──Gorge stopped the enemy’s movements with his body, and when I missed my shot, Gunilla’s ‘ancient civilization relic (Arbalest)’ delivered the final blow.”

Violet turned over and stared at the ceiling.

”And… the one who formed a team that could work together like that is Gieze. It’s thanks to your efforts.”

”That’s right, Gieze. I think you should take more pride in being the team leader.”

Kazumi, who continued Violet’s words, patted Gieze’s knee gently from above the covers.

”Hearing you say that… it really makes me feel better.”

”It’s not just a comfort, you know? I think you did well. The opponent was an Archdemon, and it was possible for everyone to be wiped out.”

Since there was still a hint of self-deprecation in his words, I also told Gieze.

”Honestly, I wouldn’t say that your team’s skills are lacking──but everyone who should still be gaining experience managed to fend off the powerful Sixteen Demon Generals. I truly think that’s amazing.”

Perhaps Gieze, being in the position of a mentor, felt happy about my words, as a bit of joy appeared on his face.

* * *

”All 3 of you were quite seriously injured, but the treatment is done. Now, it’s just about healing your strength…”

”If you soak in Raetia’s hot springs, there shouldn’t be any problems… well, it’s safer to stay hospitalized until you can move by yourself.”

It seems Mr. Rudolf and Rena, who had finished treating the injured who were brought back from the base, conveyed this after diagnosing Gieze, Gorge, and Violet in the hospital room.

”W-w-well, umm, will it take a long time?”

”From my perspective, I hope you take it slow and recover fully…”

Both Karina and Charlotte, who were continuing to help with the treatment of the injured on-site, were looking at Mr. Rudolf, who was closing the front of Gieze’s hospital gown.

”Don’t worry. It’s enough just to spend the night here.”

The two of them relaxed, smiles easing onto their faces at Mr. Rudolf’s gentle reply.

”You just got back from exploring the Great Labyrinth. Take it easy for a while.”

”Yeah. You made it all the way to the 18th floor, didn’t you? That’s way more than you planned. So get some proper rest.”

As Liz and Simona laughed, they gently poked Violet on the head—she’d been looking a little worried.

Meanwhile, Gunilla and Romy watched quietly from the side.

”We feel bad about that too. We ended up like this after getting caught off guard by the Sixteen Demon Generals… and made you all worry for nothing.”

Violet, brushing aside Liz’s hand with an apologetic look, was surprisingly honest.

”What is it, Hiroya? Is it really that shocking?”

 ”No… I just think you’re being honest…”

”That’s rude. I will apologize for the wrong things and the trouble I’ve caused!”

Did my attitude make her angry?

Violet suddenly sat up, holding her chest and curling up.

”Ouch, ouch, ouch… anyway. We, the Gieze group, intend to make up for this properly. …Right, Gieze?”

”Yes. Once this injury heals… we’ll aim for the deepest floor of the Great Labyrinth ──”

As they reached that point, Violet was held down on the bed by Gunilla, and Gieze was pinned by Karina.

 ”That’s not allowed, Violet…”

”Y-yes, that’s right, Gieze. …Um, um, no pushing yourself is allowed.”

Watching that exchange, Kazumi stood up suddenly and pointed sharply at the two.

”Violet! Gieze! Of course, everyone from the Gieze group here, including Gorge! …And, well, even Eluda who’s not here!”

Kazumi pointed at each of them, and when it came to Eluda, who wasn’t present, she pointed out the window with a loud voice.

”Take it easy until your strength heals! After that, take at least a week off! ── Sounds good, Leader!”

After making that statement, Kazumi asked Liz.

Liz, who was asked, returned a smirk and nodded widely.

”Hey! This is an order! ── I know it might be frustrating, but taking it slow and restoring your energy is also part of being a clan member, okay?”

At Kazumi’s strict command, the members of Gieze’s team, who had been stunned for a while…

eventually all started to laugh and replied, “Understood!”

* * *

 ”But… I’m really glad you’re okay…”

Maybe feeling relieved, I supported Kazumi, who swayed as if all her strength had left her after leaving the hospital room.

”Yeah… I think you did well to repel the Archdemon without any rank S members.”

”And apparently, you even defeated one. ── That’s impressive.”

Together with Mr. Rudolf, I thought I had left with Kazumi, Rena, Liz, and Simona, but… At some point, Asuka had also come out and agreed with my words.

 ”Asuka? Is Gorge okay?”

”It seems no escort is needed… I’m worried, but Mr. Rudolf is here too. Besides──”

”They will probably have a reflection meeting just with the members of Gieze’s team, huh?”

Following Asuka, who spoke with concern, Liz murmured while glancing back at the hospital room door.

”By the way, what happened to Eluda? After seeing Gieze and the others get brought here and treated by Mr. Rudolf, she went straight back to the Clan house…”

Just as Simona said, when we arrived at the treatment center, Eluda was already gone.

They said she hurried to the workshop…

”Apparently, she said that she can’t leave all the party’s anti-magic protection to just Karina.”

”She said she would make equipment that can protect everyone from magic as the Tank.”

Kazumi listened to Rena and Liz sharing this with a frustrated expression.

”Ugh… that girl also needs to take a proper rest…”

”Once she decides to do something, she’ll work until she feels satisfied… that’s just how craftsmen are.”

Asuka lightly responded to Kazumi, who shrugged her shoulders, with a smile that said, “Oh well.”
